@@bryanhersman4037 I mean, 1,350 pounds of payload minus the 650 for tongue weight on the 6,500 pound trailer leaves you 700 pounds of payload. 2 adults at 175 pounds a piece is 350 pounds, 3-4 small kids at 100 pounds or less and you're right on target. Going over a hundred pounds or 200 pounds really isn't going to matter. I'd say the numbers work out pretty good, and also remembering this is on a fully loaded unit, on a less loaded one you'll probably gain a couple hundred pounds of payload. The problem with a Silverado is you only have 5 seats, maybe 6 if you get a bench in the front but it's not very comfortable. Most people don't have a family of 8, but a lot of people have 3-4 kids but cramping them all in the back seat of a truck isn't that much fun on a long road trip. With this Tahoe everyone can get a window seat and not sit in the middle, if there's only 3 kids someone can sleep in the 3rd row, you can get 2 TV's in them, and you have a trunk for a suitcase that's secured and isn't an open truck bed. Plus, for the 98% of the other driving it won't be towing and you can seat 8 people in it and use it to go get groceries and what not without it being a truck.
@anthonyc1883

I just recently bought a 6x12 enclosed single axle and behind my F-150 at sea level and 70mph my mpg tanked from 19.8 w/no trailer (I'm running bigger, heavier tires and rims than factory so it dropped me below 20) to 10 with it. I crafted a "V-nose" mod for the trailer and lowered my speed to 65 and brought the mpg up to 13.3 empty. Aero drag is CRAAAAAZY when you get over 55 with any kind of enclosed trailer. I knew going in that it'd hurt my mpg but I didn't know it would cut it IN HALF.

@MrJcjet

They make lots of them. they just don't sell them in the United States unfortunately. They are not clean enough for our emissions standards. Toyota said a few years ago that it would cost approximately $8,000 per vehicle more in sale price to justify a diesel engine emissions setup. And that for almost any driver, the extra cost could not be justified in fuel savings. Supposedly the new tundra hybrid will get very close to 30 mpg. if that's the case and it's also more powerful and cheaper than the diesel option, I think that will be a winner. I love the idea of this new GM inline six diesel, but it has some very poor internal engineering. The oil pump is mounted on the back of the engine and uses a belt to drive it. And that belt has to be replaced at about 100,000 mi. The way that they designed that system requires the engine to be removed in order to do the belt swap because you have to separate the transmission from the engine to remove or install the belt. I cannot figure out why you would design such a stupid system. But what that means is these GM diesels are going to require about a $3,000 belt change at 100,000 mi. That's just stupid.

They're looking for a turnkey SUV that can commute, road trip and tow comfortably and quietly without having to make constant trips to the gas station. And when you consider people will spend over 100k without hesitation for a German sports sedans for the weekends, getting a package like this at 79k isn't bad for the type of buyer this targets. GM knows this and is playing the game for their core audience, and they're doing it very, very well.

1351 pounds is not enough payload to both tow AND carry a full crew. Say a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 teens and a 100 pound dog you will only have about 550 pounds left for the hitch assembly and trailer hitch weight. Add 2 more people and maybe you could tow a wave runner. This was always the point of making 2500 versions with 2800 pound payloads. You could tow the 8000 pounds AND carry 7-8 people with gear. Some Questions: What is the impact of the higher elevation on the mpg and performance of the diesel? What is the explanation for the difference in the computer mileage versus the calculation results? How much DEF can we expect to use per mile? No one seems to add that cost to run the engine, but it must be considered when deciding whether to go with a gas or diesel engine. Is there an impact to mpg due to seasonal fuels?
@cheezuscrust7730

The computer will detect less oxygen in the cylinders due to high elevation and inject more diesel into the cylinders to make up for the loss of oxygen. Winter and summer diesel only differentiate in the amount of paraffin in the fuel.

The fuel economy is great but it will take some time and a lot of driving to mitigate the extra price the diesel costs to both purchase and maintain. The unfortunate thing with newer diesels are the DEF, DPF and EGR systems which are very failure prone in them. Add in having to drive longer so the emission system can regen plus didn't a GM engineer say that the engine's timing chain which is in the back and the oil pump is driven by a wet belt that requires replacement but of course the transmission needs to come out... Yeah just get the 5.3 or 6.2 because at least the DFI issues are easily sorted with a carbon cleaning.
@courtneyanderson2293
@courtneyanderson2293 2 года назад
Extra price? There is no difference in cost between the 3.0 and 6.2. I have 2 Yukon XLs with the 6.2l and the 3.0 Caddy is coming in the next week or so. I run 60,000+ miles on them in a year and fully expect my fuel bill to drop around $5500 a year. Oil pump belt will probably run 200,000 miles without issue and the moment it fails the dash lights up and you shut it off. I expect to change it once or twice in the next 5-8 years and it will owe me nothing.

Makes you wonder of the difference in particulates in exhaust compared to gas. Perhaps it's worse but when you factor in better mpg is it still as bad for distance traveled?
@dzelpwr
@dzelpwr 3 года назад
Modern diesels since 2007 have emitted LESS particulates than gas engines thanks to the advent and mandate of diesel particulate filters in the exhaust. It's NOx that diesels struggle with most. NOx is what VW was found cheating back in 2015. At the same time the regulations from 2009 required NOx levels 10 times lower than early to mid 2000s regulations... Ever since the cheating scandal, diesels have had to go through an impossible to cheat on-road emissions analysis test by CARB and EPA to obtain certification. So rest assured, any diesel after that scandal left the factory being a properly squeaky clean diesel.

Apparently this is happening to the 2019-2021 models so this has been going on long enough for GMC to do a recall on these. The BMW is an X5 Msport with the factory tow package, turbo 6 and 3 row seating. BMW started offering a tow package in 2019 on the fully redesigned X5 for the first time. My X5 is all wheel drive and gets 26-27 highway but towing my 6,000 box trailer every once and awhile I average just under or over 12 mpg. I thought the 12 mpg was bad but if you get the same with a diesel then I think I’m doing good. Im in Florida and also have a V8 F150 that gets a little worst mpg than the BMW. The big surprise towing with the BMW is that the engine noise is almost imperceptible inside the vehicle and the acceleration is actually stronger than the F150. The power is the BMW is amazing and on cruise control you can hardly tell you are towing. One last detail the BMW has 275/22" front and 325/22" rubber.

I see folks chirping about payload and I dont concur with their comments. I just leased a 2021 gmc 1500 diesel and the payload sticker on this basic truck is 1750 pounds. That means passengers, stuff in the bed and trailer tongue weight can not exceed that amount. Period. Not sure why folks think passengers are not included in that. Now if you want to haul a truck camper only the special order ford F150 with the HEAVY DUTY PAYLOAD PACKAGE (not max tow) is certified by the OEM to carry a truck camper of any weight. Per the owners manual they do rate that trucks camper max as total payload on door sticker minus 150 pounds per passenger. So the one I wanted to buy had a payload of 2500 pounds but given a crew cab with four seating post it had a max camper and cargo and trailer weight total of 2500 minus 600 so 1900 pbs. It was an xl. If I apply the samel logic to this gmc i have it would only be able to carry a camper and other gear and trailer tongue of 1150. So that is why the owners manual says it doesnt recommend this truck for hauling an in bed camper. Oems are bull crapping about what these vehicles can pull or haul
