I think whoever said that cat was young was correct. Cougars dont wrestle their prey if they dont have to. He looked like he was having trouble finding the spot on the neck. Plus the dog fighting back and trying to get away just made it harder for him. Dog is so lucky to be alive. They're fools for leaving their dog outside at night, especially when they're well aware of the wildlife in the area. I used to live near there and have seen coyotes leap over 10 foot brick walls just to pursue a house cat. Your pets are not safe in your backyard just because you have a fence!

I don't at all understand why people lave their pets outside alone. These people are smiling, recounting their leisure night of movie watching, and they knew and were aware of the risks outside. Their dog suffered that because of them. It wasn't killed and eaten thankfully, but it's obvious the dog is traumatized. Yes, shame on these irresponsible pet owners who are just smiling away like it was a fun story. They wouldn't be smiling and enjoying their news fame and attention had it ended tragically. Them smiling and being so jovial is infuriating. I live in Colorado at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. I have seen plenty of wildlife. Bears, mountain lions, coyote, bobcats.....I watched a mountain line take someone's cat right up onto their roof and eat it, I watched 2 coyotes walk down the street with a neighbors cat in one's mouth, I watched a mountain line sneaking around looking for a way in to get a neighbors dog that was always outside in a dog house, I was doing house sitting on a ranch and saw a pack of 7 coyotes surround the house because they were targeting the 2 goats on the property (I scared them off with loud banging, but they were not easily scared away), I've seen a hawk swoop down and pick up a feral kitten and fly off with it, I saw a HUGE mountain lion jumping from rooftop to rooftop like it was nothing, looking for outdoor pets. I've seen a huge 350 lb bear charge at a barking dog and swipe at in and gouge it's head...the dog had to be put down. If you love your pets and value their lives, stop leaving them outside alone without your attention. Especially at night, and especially when you know there are risks like this. These people are annoyingly flippant about their dog having nearly lost it's life in a tragic way. It's very lucky to be alive and that the mountain lion was a young one. Also, wildlife isn't doing it to be evil, they are doing it for food and are opportunists when they see easy prey.

Dog owners laughing like the whole ordeal is funny. If a mountain lion bit one of them they wouldn't be laughing.

This video really bothered me and disturbed me. I don't understand why anyone would leave their pet outside unattended like that specially at night.

I am so glad that the beautiful dog survived. But what I don't understand is: WHY WERE THE OWNERS SMILING AND LAUGHING ABOUT IT?!!!

I'm down in Escondido, a few years ago I was looking out from my driveway and a mountain lion appeared trotting down the street about 100 yards away from me. It trotted up across the lawn, jumped up on the roof of a single-story house and disappeared over the other side like it was nothing. I felt like I had seen a space alien. Like did I reallly just see that? It was probably twice the size of the one in this video. I see coyotes down here fairly regularly, and a neighbor had their cat taken by one not too long ago. But I can't imagine if I had been up the street and that thing came jogging toward me. I would have crapped my pants.

What horrible people, they couldn't be happier that their dog was almost eaten.

Need to make sure kids are never left alone outdoors, even during daytime hours. Mountain lions aren't too particular about a snack.

The scariest part is that, the mountain lion will keep coming back looking for the dog. And could attack them or thier kids.

Watching the video it seems like the dog's collar saved the dog from getting it's throat ripped out. That's what the lion was trying to do.

People don’t realize that these mountain lion attacks will increase because they are being driven from their roaming lands. Mountain lions require a huge amount of space to live without (literally) going insane and attacking people/pets. We have pushed them into the smallest pieces of land and now they are showing up in downtown LA. These aren’t unprovoked attacks - they simply have nowhere to go because of roadways and human development.

What kind of idiots leaves their dogs and cats outside at night in area's like that ??

We live i the hills of Los Angees where coyotes are in residence.. Why would ANYONE who is aware that coyotes, bob cats, bears and cougars are in place would allow their pets out at night, in the cold and damp? Dogs are FAMILY and should be inside, cozy and warm, not out in the cold all alone.

That lion will be back, territorial animal and follows same pattern for food. Poor pup.

That dog has got some fight, she didn't realize the danger until it was too late. I hope she makes a full recovery. I was stalked by one while hiking with my dog. I had no idea it was there for over a mile. we came to a bend that gave me the creeps and my dog glued to my side, so we turned around. I noticed the prints going up the hill to the bend we stopped at, then saw them the whole hike down in the snow trailing us. Over 3x the size of my 100 lb's dogs prints. I found out later there had been some dogs eaten in the area, so I'm sure it wanted my dog. It's crazy how stealthy they are, aside from listening to my 6th sense and my dogs body language I didn't actually see it and had no idea it was there until I saw the prints.

In La Verne! This is crazy scary. I always go out with our fur baby when he does his business. I worry about larger dogs but a mountain lion, wow!

Ok, the fact is, where I live, there are raccoons, badgers, and opossums. Because of that, I don't let my dogs be in the yard alone at night. How is it possible that, living in a place where there are so many wild and dangerous animals, someone leaves their pet outside, all by herself, while they enjoy a movie comfortably seated in their living room? Thank God Holly survived!

So glad Holly Jolly is going to be just fine. My animals are family and pretty defenseless… I could never let them out without being right there with an ever watchful eye on my beloved pet. Too many dangers out there to pets unwatched even in a fenced in yard.

Dogs don't have a chance against mountain lions that are serious. Strangely that dog looked like it was trying to entice that cat to play. Giant Schnauzer are big dogs. A lesser dog wouldn't have a chance. Up in a little north coast town there was a mountain lion that took a quite few dogs also a bunch of sheep. Caught on a trail cam, it looked skinny and older. Fish and game managed to kill one, but I think there were two. Friends keep trail cams up there now. Definitely mountain lions about.

5 year old shedding kept captivity looks sedated released. 15 pounds and 8 inches larger female mt lion let in back gate to my door. My Hereditary calmess Mt Lion went back Ukraine brought him. Guy must been in US for decades. Hugs to Doggie

If the area is known for such fierce wildlife why are they leaving their dog outside alone especially at night!! How irresponsible!! That mountain lion will continue to come back. Giant Schnauzer is a very good breed. They are fortunate they had a quality dog.

Great footage so glad that dog is OK cute dog I have a chihuahua terrier mix she got attacked by a raccoon the other night she was screaming bloody murder that cougar would have had her for a snack I too live in California with lots of wildlife every night packs of coyotes howl for hours not far from me it’s cool and sad at the same time because our cities are slowly taking away their natural environments & habitats their confused as hell as we continue building
