Hey Steve, I am a retired math teacher with terrible mechanical aptitude. This video was the most well communicated and effective fix for one of my many mechanical crises. I always turn to RU-vid when I get stuck now and it allows me to succeed with basic jobs. I can’t thank you enough for your service. I hope you make some money doing this activity. You brought value to my situation. Thank you
I'm a Boomer and I always use RU-vid for fixing around the house. Imagine if we had this tool back in the day and all the money & frustration that could have been saved.
What a great tip. For certain I never knew that. I've been struggling with my pressure washer for years. You're never to old to learn new tricks. Thank you for sharing, this was very much appreciated. Wes
You are the best Steve. I was literally using mine yesterday to pressure wash my cedar fence. I wondered why it was so hard to pull and would snap back so violently. This was so valuable to me. I will also tell my wife because when I was doing this yesterday I thought my wife would never be able to start it, lol. Which is probably not true she is a lot smarter than I am. Cheer's!
Good tip, pressure washers are equipped with an unloader valve to try to eliminate this problem (plus they allow the water to bypass when you release the wand trigger when the unit is running), but they usually don`t work that well and stick (hard water run through them doesn`t help) - especially when the unit sits unused for a while - I always started mine the way you said here.
Wow, you literally just saved me time, money, frustration, and a world of stress. I just brought the dewalt 3600 and this video fixed my problem in less then a minute.
Very good video, happens all the time here. I must do two or three a week on pressure washers during the warm weather. Thanks Steve, keep up the awesome work. Appreciate all the effort to help us keep our equipment running, good day!
The minute you started talking I knew exactly what you were talking about Cut grass and pressure wash have been doing it for 22 years I see this every day so my trying to start up a piece of equipment the wrong way I try to go over and help them A lot of the times people are welcome into your advice and are glad to learn the right way to do things keep up the good work your videos are Great education for people out there that don’t know what they’re doing
I have had issues like this starting my pressure washer and now I understand why. Thanks once again for clearing up the mystery Steve. I always thought I had to START the washer FIRST and then turn on the water immediately after it was running. Simple... hold the handle did not occur to me... DUH... LOL
Just got a pressure washer on a good deal. Works great but I've been doing a no no but I couldn't start it otherwise... I'd charge the pump with water, then unhook the hose and start the engine then quickly connect the hose again..... you probably just saved my pressure washer from my own stupidity... thank you sir!
Thanks a lot for the tip, l had a hard pull and was about to take this thing ACE. Then one click on RU-vid landed me to your video. Your recommendation worked like magic, you definitely saved me a lot of time and money. Thank you sooooooooo much🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Thanks Steve, you just saved me a lot of time an headache. I'm new to this and I was going to start cleaning a driveway. The cord was stuck. It wouldn't move. I was ready to pack it up and go home. But I though, I should look in RU-vid. Good thing I did. I just bought this pressure washer and was going to call customer support. Great job.👍
I work for a rental company and we tell everyone to that. They still don't listen. Our biggest problem is on 11-13 hp engines the want to pull the rope out 3 feet to stand up straight and they kick back and rip the handle off or damge the spring
Thank you very much my post start was hard and you showed me how to release the pressure by spraying the gun and it worked thank you very much appreciate it
I always put a garden hose shut off between the hose and pump. That way I can start it then reach down and flip the water on. Been working for me great
You have got to be shitting me! I was ready to lose it trying to figure out why my pressure washer pull cord would tighten, not pull. I would let it sit for hours or a day , come back, find the cord relaxed, but after a pull or two, become stiff and not pull again. I was going to pay someone for repairs. Then, I saw this youtube video and, well, don't I feel stupid. What an awesome guy - this is EXACTLY the solution to my problem. Subscribed for sure!
😂 you just explained my situation as well, I have to admit that I did lose it, I was cussing and throwing tools and I was ready to fist fight the first person in sight! RU-vid is the best for common and uncommon knowledge. It has saved me alot of brain racking time and money on needles repairs!
I broke my finger on the finger at 7:30 am on the first day that I began to powerwash my 31ft Chris Craft to get it ready to paint the bottom of it. I worked the entire weekend with a broken finger. I power washed and scrubbed the entire boat, then sanded the painted area, then painted the bottom 1/3 of the boat with the copper protective paint. Sunday evening at 8:00pm I went to the hospital to get my finger xrayed and splinted. THANKS FOR THIS TIP!!!
I had this exact thing happen to me when I started up my Craftsman Briggs and Stratton pressure washer for the first time this season. It's about a year old or so. Glad to know it's an easy fix.
Thank you for the tip. Not too many people know the tricks that you share. I was able to repair my pressure washer myself this week just by clearing out the unloader valve.
I swear man you know everything. You were the one that taught me the trimmer bulb floods the machine and demoed keep pulling until air displaces the fuel. And from that I said he'll instead of killing my arm, I'll just pull the tube, press the bulb and suck all the fluid out and bam the air gets in with the proper fuel and it starts right up. Push fuel tube back on and get to work. I used to think that trimmer was a piece of shit and now it's flawless.
Best advice is to read the owner's manual on starting the pressure washer. Mine says to turn on the water toi allow a small stream of water to flow for a few minutes to get all the air out of the line. When the engine starts, the pressure of the water will shut off the stream of water. There may be a problem with the unloader valve or the pump itself or even the spray gun.
Steve I once ran my Honda(Chanda) pressure washer with no valve breather tube, it ran 100% that day. I thought I ran the machine out of gas because it stopped running. So I packed it in for the day. The next day the machine would not start at all. May you please help me, might be a different reason, I tried carb cleaning, new spark plug and boot, cleaned air filter, checked crank, cam, valves, piston; all looks good. Let me know if you have any ideas 💡
I have ran into this problem, i turn the water on long enough to fill the hose then shut it off , start the engine and then turn the water back on. I have also seen where if you fill the gas tank too full (up to the neck) it will not start.
loading up the engine by pulling over engine. pump is piston pump same as putting wood in chipper and try and start engine. g Great video steve keep them coming.
Hi Steve , great tip going to save alot people money with this tip for sure , as always good video ,keep them tips coming , thanks and have a great weekend
Hey Steve! Watched your carb vid for honda "style" carbs, tore her apart, cleaned her, and got my Honda GCV160 to start after one pull today...so THANKS! Problem NOW is that the motor runs perfect until I load the engine by actuating the sprayer. She starts surging and wanting to stall; also it looked like a pressure relief valve blew off water pressure under the pump unit. I will watch your other vids on those topics but PLEASE point me in the best direction sir! HELP?
I think I did just that. I broke the pull cord. Now it won’t pull out all the way and it is too hard to pull. Do you have a video on how to fix the broken pull cord?
Hey Steve, got a Suburu pressure washer barely used. Used today for a couple hours was working great. Noticed some surging at idle. But when I pull the trigger, engine dies. Starts right back up but dies under load. I checked the unloader valve and it seems fine. Any suggestions?
You are supposed to purge the air from the pressure washer hose before starting the engine. Reduces wear to the water pump. You can put your soap or low pressure nozzle in the wand when starting as well.
I noticed this on mine and i start it with the water off then i run to the faucet and turn it on then go make adjustments on the engine. Is this a bad habit. If i turn the water on it builds the pressure like you say, i bleed it off but it builds back up so fast i get wore out by the time i get it started.
I am a moron lol i an having that problem but never owned a pressure washer lol i was going too take it too the shop and have it fixed thanks for the video
I had this problem with a Briggs and Stratton power washer and it's utterly frustrating trying to hold the trigger, the washer and pull the cord multiple times to try to get it started. Then when you release the trigger it was shutting off. I pulled out the pressure switch/spring and it was all clear and clean. Now it starts just as frustrating but then it only runs the water for like a few seconds, suddenly stops the water and immediately shuts off like its blocked and overloaded so stalls. What the hell is going on with this thing? It's old...it get that, but one day it was working perfect, the next...nothing but endless issues. Id be happy to send a video to your email if that'll help?
Not on my new one. But I can run mine dry without hurting anything so what I do is start my pressure washer then turn the water on. Never had a problem.
So how do you keep the pump from blowing up when you have to stop to move things around for a minute? That's my big problem.....! I go through about one a year!
I have a Coleman pressure washer PW0872400.01. It will not engage when I pull the rope. From my assessment the little ears are not coming out when you pull the rope. How do I fix, align the ears?
People not reading instructions, most instructions tell you to squeeze trigger before starting, get all air through for a good stream & keep squeezing for start.. Also it’s too late if you start washer then run to your tap & turn on water, can wreck seals in pump pretty quickly.
I have been messing with my unloader pressure valve on my Karcher seems like to much pressure but then when i back it down its not enough for the gyro to kick on at end of wand so I find a medium but it still like struggles like its over working and trying to jump out of its craddle why does it sound like its over working sitting still especially when i release the handle? It jumps bangs and puffs haha..
