I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. Thanks again, Matt! Your channel is a much watch every day for me. You know so much about bass fishing and how to match presentation to the conditions. Those of us that are mainly weekend anglers will never fish often enough to amass so much bass fishing wisdom. I agree. Lipless cranks are so versatile. I also use them in the late spring for walleye. The only other thing that I've learned is the noise factor. In colder water or high-pressure situations, they seem to like them with a subtle sound or dead silent. With so few manufacturers making silent versions, I end up doing the drilled hole & CA glue trick.

One of the best days I had fishing was when a buddy and I got on some schooling fish back in the early 80's on the lake you're getting ready to fish T-bend on chrome Traps. my oldest son was with us, he was 9 at the time one of my all-time favorite times with my older son.

Great video. I love the lipless crank bait. They can be found in discount bins and clearance bins it seems year round. I find bill Lewis & cotton cordel for $2-3. Sometimes I’ll remove the rear hook and fish it where I’d pitch jig just to see if I can get it out cover. They come through pretty much everything except the tree behind me when casting.

Some of my biggest bass have been in the fall on chrome lipless. The yo yo retrieve is great in the winter.

Great tips, will def throw em more in the local river. My go to in withewater have been the bell spinner, but you are so right when it comes to fishing in heavy current is like fly fishing. You gonna snag, it's the law.

It's fun to throw, esp if you have the best. Not even telling even if I do YT. Glad you say all types of game fish. These other bass channels are limited. Eddies, pockets, and hiding points.

I've gotten on a lipless bite bouncing it off dead timber a couple times- it flat works. I got hung up a few times doing it but- if you hit just right, the way the head is down causes it to really deflect- and usually, that's when it gets smashed. Idk if the bass realizes the baitfish has knocked itself silly or what, but something tells them to hit it right then- and they usually hit it hard. Hope your finger is better man- good luck at TB.

Back home in Pittsburgh my cousin has a shallow river with small mouths. So when I go visit in August I'm going to try that. It's full of rocks. I was wondering what to throw in the river now I know.

Awesome video Matt… almost always have a lipless tied on. Because they really are that versatile. They catch everything and draw big baits too. Only thing I might add is don’t ignore different weights and sounds available for different situations either. I’ve seen switching from a chatter to a one knocker reignite a slowing bite an hundred times. A silent lipless can be absolutely incredible in pressure situations too. Not to promote any specific brand or anything, there are a lot of great ones all with subtle differences, but I do know profound makes a silent version and a heavier than average for the size on made specifically for ledge fishing that have been really good for me.

I fish strictly smallmouth. I rarely catch any on a lipless for some reason. If it isn't a shallower flat, bait won't stay don't deep enough to have fish come up for it even on a slow retrieve. And I have never caught a bass on the yoyo retrieve. Ever. Catch em on blade baits but never a lipless. So I usually go crankbait or jerkbait and don't even bother with lipless. Good topic.

I will fish a lipless 100x more than other crankbaits. They don't snag as much as lipped cranks and they catch HUGE fish all year.

Actually seen one lowered below the boat at a set depth, rod put in a rod holder and left alone and fish took the bait dead sticked, only I guess the movement of the boat affecting the bait

I'm assuming your yo-yo is what I call snap jigging. I won't let the bait sit but a second then snap it off the bottom. Also I'll rip the bait with sweep the rod most often on long rocky points and grass.
