I'm a 25y from Belgium in Europe, born in 1994, and hate those wannabe comedians of today. I love watching RU-vid videos of Rodney and Don Rickles. I'm not even an American nor old enough to even witnessed these great guys. I wish I was born in the 60's or something to have witnessed these legends in the flesh. Carson, Dangerfield, Martin, Rickles, Sinatra,... God bless RU-vid!!
I remember watching all this as a little kid in the 70's, but most of it went over my head. It's fun being able to rewatch it now, in my 50's - I can enjoy it in a whole new light.
No one and nothing was off limits and no one was offended. Class all the way through this show! The best of TV is gone but I enjoy taking walk down memory lane.
Jesus there is such a ridiculous contradiction in these comments, he couldn't swear or discuss sex, which everyone celebrates here as being classy, which it might be, but you can't say people are pansies nowadays this was the golden age, meanwhile if you said Damn or blowjob everyone would have gasped.
Thank you Don!! Every race and religion have some quirks, and others are just misunderstood Pop culture beliefs. We should all be making fun of ourselves during this pandemic. Laughter and love will hopefully get most of us through this. I live in an assisted living facility and I keep telling jokes as we are on lockdown. I pray for the world, but sometimes you have to stop and laugh. Good luck to us all, God bless and try to laugh. I'm Irish and can't think of anything funny about us. ( lol) Rich
That is a bittersweet statement for me. Bitter, because people are so sensitive today and complain so much and that Mr Rickles is not with us anymore. Sweet, because he was able to do his things to full potential back then and not in our generation's time of over sensitiveness and snowflakeness. He is never offensive because you know that he is a real nice guy first then a comedian. The world will never have anyone like him ever again. He is a true Legend.
You knew you'd made it when Don Rickles made fun of you. He was outrageously funny. He could insult the heck out of anyone and have them laughing about it. God rest you, Don. You were one of the best.
EVERYTHING, including RACE is funny to people who have a sense of humor and aren’t actually racist.... Democrats owned the slaves, democrats founded the KKK, democrats kept a KKK Exalted Cyclops in the U.S. Senate for 51 years until he died in office in 2010.... now the democrats claim that republicans are racist..... eat shit and die with that BS! PS. Most of the people in Hollywood then and now were/are democrats, so if you see them making fun of race, it was your side in almost every case, including Don Rickles....
This tribute to Telly Savalas, I recall so well.I was in 8th grade when it was shown on TV for the first time, and my best friend and I talked about it at school.
The whole lot of them have departed the stage. Never will there be entertainers of this calibre again. Thank goodness for youtube where we can continue to enjoy the sharp wit of these amazing icons of entertainment.
@@mz610 Frank did a concert in Australia in which he used profane language criticizing the government and the media and that left australians feeling hurt
I watched all of these Roasts when new on tv, but this particular Roast remains in my memory more than the others. I was 14, and in 8th grade when this one was shown. Rickles was hilarious, as was his sitcom CPO Sharkey. I watched all the prime time shows made during 1964 and every year afterward. The 1960s-1980s had the best shows of any decade. Most shows after 1990 have reeked, in more ways than one.
No matter how down I'm feeling Mr Don Rickles almost always can lift me up. Only when I'm grieving I cannot laugh but every other time God knows Rickles will put a smile on my face.
Don Rickles was one of a kind. It didn’t matter your religion, ethnicity, creed, race, or color, as Don picked on everyone equally and never did anyone get offended by him as it was in good fun. He was one of the best comedians ever. Thank you Mr. Rickles for all of the comedy you gave to us over your lifetime and we still are laughing with you. RIP Mr. Don Rickles
I’m obsessed with Don. Man oh man I miss him. His humor even the jokes about all ethnicities and races they all laughed about it. Nowadays everyone is so damn hyper sensitive.
Only Don Rickles could get away with this kind of humor. He was the best and everyone he "insulted" wore that as a badge of honor. If anyone tried that kind of act today they would be yanked off the stage and done in the business. RIP Don.
Everyone on the panel were friends or at least professionally acquainted. The Dean Martin roast were huge back in the day. This was the original Must See TV.
@@Arturo-sm1tb Oh go run to your safe space you liberal crybaby nutcase evidently you never watched Sanford and Son or the Jeffersons who made fun of white people as well 😂
@@doctorhoffman4550 Frank and Don were a great double act,and what happened was president regan relaxed the broadcasting rules so that news didn't have to be balanced any more, then Roger ailes and Rupert murdoch created fox news and became political influencers, main stream media was a term popularised by goebbels. Rip Frank and Don,they're entertaining god now.
On behalf of the Greeks and the Jewish people: Don`t move into the neighborhood. Fantastic!!! Thunderbolt & Lightfoot!! George Kennedy!!! Jesus, Don Rickles was a genius!!!
I remember this Roast in particular, when new. I had even recorded it on those small reel-to-reel tapes, holding the recorder microphone up to the TV console speaker during the entire program. I did it for a school friend, we were in 8th grade. She wouldn't have been able to watch the program, but she was happy to listen to it. This was during the 1974-75 period, depending on the month it was done. I watched most of these Roasts of Dean's. All the celebs on them I was familiar with.
We all know this is brilliant. Yet today, his teasing Nipsy, and all the other things would be enough to black list him. America is in shambles, Hollywood is a large part of the blame.
I'm writing it from Poland. I'ts 2019 and I must say: those were the times... smoking on tv screen, classy people, no f... words in the jokes - and still funny and inteligent. Is it just me or maybe there is something different today? :)
The one about Shelly Winters taking an oar to the head: it was a reference to her role in "A Place In The Sun" with Monty Clift. Gone, all are gone now, damn.
Love it. Just so funny and everybody having a good time, drinking and smoking and nobody is offended at all. Don was pure class and acted with telly savalas in kellys heroes 1970, they remained friends. I think the clint eastwood jokes had a bit of kellys heroes attached to it. As they all acted together init. Dons humour and ability to make people laugh was at the top of the tree. No continuing swear words, just classy jokes about telly and the people thare. Man its like wee are living in a different age. With all the crap and garbage wee have to deal with now. So glad these clips and full roasts are available to unwind now and again. R.I.P Don Rickles, and Telly Savalas. I loved kellys heroes and Kojak.
@@craigsmith2030 Yup they don't make people like Telly, Rickles, Dangerfield or Johnny Carson anymore. I miss those old shows like The Tonight Show, Honeymooners, Hogan's Heroes, Ironside and Kojak. 👍
@@bartonpercival3216 its sad Bartonpercival i feel strongly because if Don rickles, one of the funniest guys around without swearing, super popular back in the day. I feel Don would be turning in his grave if he knew how far wee have fallen. If Don stood up now and gave his brand of comedy he would be canceled, shut down, heckled etc etc. Its such a shame. I feel somehow that Don and all those lads back then and women had such a great time, laugh, no one offended, regular tv spots etc etc as you mentioned. I feel that they all had the best of it. As oppose to the world now. So sad. But i agree Barton these great faces would appear on tv shows, tell brilliant stories, dean martin show, johnny carson as you mentioned. It just feels nowadays that angle does not exist and if these people were alive today they would be saying what the hell has happened.
@@craigsmith2030 Yup I agree with you 100%. I was born in the mid 50's and it was a very different generation back then. Not only the media but also the culture. I remember when you could still fly and smoke on a plane and nobody complained. Now all you see & hear is flights being stopped because of unruly passengers. People feel so entitled today, instead of old fashioned hard work. It's still very hard for me to accept & understand to be honest. The world has changed so much in just the last 30 years, and not all for the better!!!!! 👍
Saw Don in Law Vegas many years ago. I sat behind Telly Savallas and Don had him on stage doing Greek dancing. Rickles was brilliant. As it became clear he was about to end some people got up to leave early. He called them on it and said, "Just for that I'm going to do 10 minutes more." And he did. He ended his show by saying that he hoped he had not offended anyone. "We are all different and we all have our funny sides. Hopefully we can laugh at ourselves together," he added. Side splitting entertainer.
Don Was An Ace In Comedy, He Was So Unique In 2 Minutes When He Would Walk Out On Stage, And It Would Be Funny What Jokes He Would Say That Quick, We Will Miss Him. RIP
2021 and watching all these LEGENDS, when nobody were ever offended.....(sadly, today humor has gone out the window) all with “political correctness”. They don’t make them like these Legends anymore. May they all Rest In Peace. So happy they don’t experience the world...pandemic....poverty....racism....etc the way we do.
