I totally spaced it and forgot to add in the clip where I go over costs to refresh various parts of these cars. I’ll do a follow up video with some numbers for you guys soon. Sorry about that
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been approached by friends and neighbors who took on a project car and now want me to help them in my “Spare Time “ , I have been a master mechanic for 38 years and currently maintain a fleet of 20 delivery vans for a commercial bakery here in San Luis Obispo,California. When I do get spare time it’s spent with my wife or on one of my e-bikes definitely not with my hands buried under a dashboard or cylinder head. Michael what you said about taking on a “project car” is 110% true and I couldn’t agree more. Thanks for another great video, Keep them coming.
@@michaelgideon6422 yep, today is my day off and I’m going to take my wife to downtown SLO for lunch guess what she’s going to drive because I don’t even want to touch a steering wheel today ( still looking for my 2009 997.2 ) thanks for your reply , your videos keep getting better and better. Have a great day.
I feel you on a much smaller scale , I bought a 944 that looked to be overall good condition, just had not be driven for over 18 years. It was going to be a pandemic hobby, what could go wrong ? It’s been about 18 months and finally have it running and road worthy with only some cosmetics to finish. I am hoping I can drive it as soon as snow melts. Point is what I suspected it needed was about triple in $$ than I expected. But like you when I finally had it running in my garage , the satisfaction and anticipated enjoyment seemed to make it all worth it. Keep on keepin on.
I haven’t owned a 944 or 928, but Porsche parts are Porsche parts. Porsche labor doesn’t change between cars so you know how it is. Good luck man great work. Hope you enjoy it when your roads clear
Michael, you are damned right with your position. I am currently restoring a 911 2.4 T from 72 which I bought already 15 years ago. If I would have known how prices would increase for the parts, I would have bought all needed things even twice when I got the car. I am from Germany and the situation is sometimes even worth over here in the home-country of this beautiful car. Keep going...love your chanel!
Your digression on the Targa was a thing of beauty! I think we all (those of us who love Porsches and are also optimists) want to look at them as they sit inertly and say something like "man, by this summer we will be driving the sweetest 911T out there!" As for if I am going to take on a project, especially an air cooled one the answer is "no". I do like to live vicariously through others though, hence my being here...I do applaud all of your efforts though Michael and as you said, you have developed some skill sets that few people have these days. You also have tamed any previous intimidation of wrenching on your own car, had there been any. I still want to hear Olive haulin' down the road, at the end of the day the greatest reward of any Porsche is to be driving it. And you my friend get to do just that. A blessing indeed. Thanks for another super video brother!
Mike, I feel for you and totally agree with your perspective on Porsche project cars. As you know, I’m going through a bare metal restoration on a sports purpose 71T build and it’s been am exercise of patience and financial fortitude.
I laughed and cried at this video, you're spot on 100%. I bought my SC about 1.5yrears ago, it's in mechanically great shape with no rust, paint is a little beat up. When I look at costs to build a 3.2SS and rebuild the 915 with a short stack, I'll be in GT4 territory! BUT, I love the air cooled, such a special car and so different from anything on the roads. My CIS is acting up and when I look at prices to convert to PMO carbs or EFI, it's ridiculous! LOL
Dear g-d. Paint, body work and rust repair are a nightmare on any vehicle. The message your sharing of buy the best car you can is something I learned from experience like most everyone on here. I spent years getting rust repaired here and there on a project car. Then came time for paint…. No one wants to work on vintage vehicles for someone else and I get why. I ended up selling my project and buying a nicer complete one that popped up.
Hilarious! Behind the joking, I know there can be some frustration but don’t give up, Mike. You are not in a rush and the reward in the end will be well worth it, and you will appreciate every second behind the wheel of any of these projects! 💪🏻💪🏻
Shhhhh, these things need to remain men only information, not to be broadcast for women to find on RU-vid please. 2 1/2 years my barn find project has hidden from my wife being dismantled just to find more and more work it needs. Totally agree, affordable price = tonnes of work, simples. Thank god for separate bank accounts lol. Great video, feeling your Porsche pain.
@@michaelgideon6422 Hiden out of her sight in my mother in law's garage. I think she may have forgotten I have it, well until I move it back to opposite our home address and spend many, many hours trying to get it into some state of road worthiness. Parked up from 86, and still parked up lol.
@michaelgideon6422 man, I love your videos. The ups and downs you show. Man, I have my eye on a sc or 944, hopefully next year, or I'm gonna jump out the window like ya crazy ass and go for it. Great content
@@michaelgideon6422your statement is true of any project car - but also when you build it you know how to fix it and you know what is good and what is old - when everythng is modified you need tk be a master ofthe frankenstein of said car brands
hello from Stuttgart Germany in the heart of porsche town! thank you so much for your vidoes! they are not sugercoated and they straight up show the truth behind those beautiful cars! looken for 912 myself ! someday when the prices drop 😂
