Man, I love the fact that you take the time to break down the information. Alot of guys doing recovery videos just say a bunch of bullshit because they are paid by a company to sell their stuff even if the information is untrue or the products are unsafe. I have learned so much from your videos that I never thought I would need to know but I am much safer now that I do. Keep up the good work man and God bless you for trying to keep people safe!!

I actually have a lot of Rhino USA recovery grear and they have work flawlessly, but I also know how to recover as well. You pointed out various marketing flaws this company has, which is very factual and their marketing gimmicks should be reassessed.

I’m new to off-roading, and had a full shopping cart of almost everything they sell at Rhino gear. Then, I figured that I should check out online reviews to see what other people say about it before I purchase it. They are very deceptive with the “USA” name. Thank you for this video and your courage to share the information! I’ll be looking for some actual “made in USA” gear for my recovery kit.

I have watched probably 50 or more of your recovery videos. My wife asked me today why? She knew I don’t want a jeep or to drive thru swamps or climb hills in an expensive 4x4 vehicle. I told her that I enjoy watching how you solve mechanical engineering problems. If you don’t have a degree or two in Mechanical Engineering you certainly have learned enough to teach - not just get a degree. I enjoy watching you w you solve problems in extremely difficult circumstances. Well done!

I’ve been doing recovering work on and off for over 30 years. You touch in a lot of great points. One thing Rhino China has that is good is there tool roll bag. So far I have not killed it like many others. 😂😂

I appreciate this video and the effort you have taken to keep us all safe. I have questioned some of the same practices that you have pointed out. One major point this video seems to miss is when it says that Rhino USA buys their products off the shelf in China and performs no testing of their own. Right on the front page of the Rhino USA website it says their products are "Designed & Lab Tested in the USA." That is American engineering. While one can argue against using Chinese labor, I did not see this video repeat the "Designed & Lab Tested in the USA" American engineering aspect nor mention that Rhino USA was asked about it. Instead, this video just puts out an unsubstantiated claim to the contrary. A video like this has got to be squeaky clean or else it damages its own credibility, falling into the same general category as the videos it is criticizing by presenting half-truths or straignt out false information. Clean these issues up and you've got a strong, even-handed safety video! Thank you!

Excellent video! I use Factor 55 and Safe X-tract gear along with US ActionTrax recovery boards. I also run a Warn Zeon 12-S winch as well. Proper rigging is the key to safety along with having the proper gear and knowing the working limits.

Very interesting info, it seems a fair amount is pretty obvious if one does just a little research. Learning a lot watching these videos.

@Off Road recovery I have a couple off Rhino USA products, Do you recommend get rid of Rhino USA products and by a different ones? What do you recommend? I looking for a soft shakle and Kinetic rope.

Great video! One comment about the tow point you mentioned on the Honda. I am not sure if the statement "those points are meant to be pulled on" is universally correct. I for one own a car where this is only partially the case. It does have two attachement points, one in the front, one in the back (these are "screw in" types though). The manual states, that the one in front is ok to pull on as long if you are pulling straight, explicitly for situations where the car is stuck. The back one however is NOT meant to be pulled on, and by the looks of it only is rated to be a tie down point (during shipping I suppose). Visually, there is no way to tell them apart though, so I reckon it's not the attachement point but rather the fact where said point is mounted on that is the limiting factor here. For that reason, I think it would be wise to take a look into the manual before pulling on any OEM attachment point on a car.

Only the I have from Rhino are a pair of rollbar grab handles and the threads started to come apart just hanging there.

Great video. I like wes and the things he does to help others. I didn't realize how sketchy some of his recovery techniques were. My rhino stuff has been great so far. My 7/8ths kinetic withstood a fl80 yanking on a buried to the frame international with a full tank of poo (35k lbs estimated total). Any opinions on the voodoo offroad lineup?

I got a set of the pro tire deflators from Wes and they don’t work. I mean I guess they do but they won’t stop deflating like they are supposed to. Another thing what do you think about the badlands recovery gear?

They make shackles for those straps for one. Secondly you never use breaking strength. Always working load limit. Also when using a basket it doubles working load limit.

I unfortunately own a pair of RhinoChina soft shackles…hooked up to my tow strap properly and after two pulls, the shackle was melted where the strap made contact with it🤦‍♂️fail..

The working load limit always has a safety factor for dynamic loads. That is why the maximum breaking strength is there.

I'll admit that I have their tree saver straps. When I first got my Jeep and started looking for recovery gear, I liked that the company was started local by a father and his boys. They seemed to blow up shortly after I got their straps. I admired Wes and how he was willing to help recovery stuck vehicles for free. At the same time there were a few instances when I knew his techniques weren't what I'd consider ideal or the safest. I commented on the Facebook page asking about manufacturing their products here in the USA and they mentioned they were going to make more of their products here but that doesn't seem to have come true. Another company with a similar name, Gear America, does the same thing. I have since started buying only US made recovery gear as much as I am able. A few things about your video, while you're correct about the breaking strength vs load strength but when is anyone going to use/need to pull more than 14k lbs.? If you need to pull that much, I would hope you spend more than $25. Your video implies that 14k lbs isn't enough. You mention tow straps and kenetic ropes but didn't mention recovery straps which do in fact stretch similar kenetic ropes just not nearly as much and do not last for as many pulls. Having Rhino USA recovery gear is better than no gear at all but it's definitely in your and our country's best interest to buy US made.

The safe working load varies depending on WHAT the rigging doing. Towing is the highest, then overhead lifting is much lower, then lifting people (as opposed to cagro) is the smallest as it has the highest safety factor calculated in. The safety factor for overhand lifting is egaly 5 times the breaking strength, so if a sling is rated at 5 tons breaking strength, it is rates at ONE ton for overhead lifting, this is pretty much standard for lifts, and riggg on OSHA Covered work sites in North America. The rated strength of towing or vehicle recovery is not standardized, some manufacturers use the same 5:1 safety factor .. while many feel 4:1 is safe enough ... The old Military Rating was just 2:1 fr towing and recovery. .. Some soldiers say that's for battle conditions only?? ... And use 5:1 for non emergency recoveries, but it's hard to pin down. The other thing more important than just number s is experience, and Florida Off Road Recovery, has plenty of experience, I would trust the figures he uses for towing and recovery, ratings any day! I just thought I'd ad this info, I worked in the rigging and lifting for may years under construction site rules, and am still licensed .. I worked on several recoveries when I was in the Military.

Today I returned to Amazon a Rhino USA rope & 2-shackle + zippered pouch kit I bought for $180, a good price (I thought). Sold as new. But I am keeping the Yankum rope I bought, which by itself cost the same but did not include shackles and pouch. The Rhino kit arrived on my doorstep directly from Rhino USA, in its retail box identifying its contents, not an Amazon box. The box was in good condition and sealed. When I opened it and took out the rope for inspection, I found evidence of prior use ... soft and distinct indentations and black marks, as from a D shackle. So as much as it pains me to go with the very expensive Yankum rope, plus a couple of soft shackles purchased at additional cost, my first experience with Rhino USA is my last.

I was at the RhinoUSA several months ago and it said the KER strap was 80% polyester and 20% silk. Today it says the straps and 100% nylon. Maybe they got the message. It does not say where the nylon comes from or the type of nylon. High grade straps/ropes are PA Nylon 6 or 6,6

Yankma rope may be a little out of my price range but it is the way to go.

You seem to know your stuff however I have to agree that the little compact frameless cars don't have a good place to hook on to and the A frames / control arms seem to be the best options in my opinion as the hook holes tear and rip very easy. I just watched this guy do a rescue last night "the trainer" & I remember thinking how lost he was. It was almost funny.

API Rigger working many years on oil rigs. Rigged up simple and complex rigging arrangements with loads ranging from 1250 ton capability to chain falls and come alongs. Doing things incorrectly can kill you or what’s worse someone you’re trying to train. No one wants that on their conscience.

Good morning brother! Man false information is going to get someone killed! I used axle straps like that but it’s just for my safety chains just so I don’t have chains rubbing on the control arms. People should always be taught about the safe WLL.

Thank you. I use to drive a semi truck off road and people would get mad at because I won't participate in unsafe practices just you are showing us here. They would bring out a chain with a working strength of less than 5000 pounds and want to snatch a loaded (80,000 pound) semi truck out of the mud with zillion horsepower skidder. I would tell people, you are f-ing insane if you think I am going to be anywhere near the triangle of death when you go to snatching on these loaded semi truck. When a chain come apart under those kinds of forces, it's like it's been shot out of canon. There is not much going to stop it; especially flesh.

I'm glad that I came across your video. I have been looking at getting recovery gear to keep in my Jeep and was looking at that other brand (Go@#$%*) After watching your video I'm more educated on what to look for in recovery gear.

While he is factual, these straps will in most cases be fine i believe. For people that'll use them a lot, go buy more expensive ones. Not a fan of the way this guy used some random BS thumbnail of a busted green rope, isn't that misleading????

A comment about using mini J hooks. I have seen several damaged frames working at a dealer. And most manufacturers say these are tie down points while some stating flat toe only. Would it work? Maybe. Situation dependant. I would trust your discretion with what I have heard with the resistantsliding scale. I would just add that disclamer to the video so no one tries to recover a car sunk to the frame in mud, doubling the vehicle weight.

You lost me at every car has a point in the frame to connect a mini J hook.. I think majority cars are uni body currently, no frame so a Prius has a point to attach a j hook? Yeap that car had a tie down point and I think he should have used that. I'm definitely not an expert, but if there is no tie down point what would be wrong with using a soft chackle to a kinetic rope?

I have looked at many ropes. None of them show work load always breaking point. This needs to change as a whole.

Lol yea hey you should invent something? Call it a tjhook. You can make it have some turntable thing, like a little mini hook thingy, and a big hook. And you could attach it all together. Maybe even add a chain?

Question Please: Rhino USA mentioned in the video clip you provided that their tow strap is a tow strap and recovery strap, so my question would be did they design it to have 8-12 % stretch to assist in using the strap as a "snatch" or yank strap?

They have so many metal projectiles between the weak point "axle straps" and the main rope. Putting out a product instructional video like that is just a liability lawsuit waiting to happen when the inevitable tragedy strikes. Fewer parts, as few projectiles as possible, and the use weighted blankets for snatch and winch work is ideal.

Is there a go between from cheap China and price gouging USA? I want a good rope but you are telling me i have to pay 250-350 for a recovery rope I may use a hand full of time during the year?

Arb and several other companies make recovery straps, and it has nothing to do with clothing manufacturing, you spend more time bashing them and ironically become exaclty what your complaining about, maybe you should focus more on proper protocall of using the tools you have.... yes their chinesium, but their affordable and decent made, but what they really need is someone knowledgable to promote them instead of just payong whatever promoter will take em on...

Use a different setup (dont use a tow/tree strap as a bridal) and avoid the metal shackle (D ring), those things kill under kinetic energy if the strap actually snaps. Apparently 2 videos with bad information

Although I have not purchased any recover equipment from Rhino, I did make the mistake of buying an e-tool and imagine this, it failed on its first use of digging a fire pit. Something as simple as a washer that was part of the folding mechanism completely failed on the first use. I can’t speak for their recovery equipment, but based on my experience and this video it’s not something I would experiment with.

I'm getting into off-roading as I have a Jeep Wrangler. After watching this..Im having second thoughts on even wanting too. I bought a tow strap from Rhino thinking this will help but I see it's not. No I have no one near or around me that seem to be interested in Off-Roading. I've gone on trails by myself and I've gotten stuck (took 30mins for me to free myself) I want to join a group but I don't want to just join any random group.

It's what you can afford if you buy a cheaper strap just beware to be easy on it.

Seems most companies/manufacturers use a mix of lots of #'s, %, metric, etc.... just marketing, like "EPA" fuel efficiency, ladder heights/reach, ev range, etc... basically your saying read the ingredients, study, take the lowest #'s, double check, pay attention and don't be stupid. Call on a professional.

I’ve got a Rhino strap and the first time I used it I noticed how bouncy it felt..there’s no way I’d do anything but light recovery and towing with it. The dude recommending using an axle tie down strap as part of kinetic rope pull is a idiot..seems like he’d be criminally liable when somebody got killed by that bow shackle flying at 200 mph.
