I can clearly remember when Don't Look Under the Bed premiered on the Disney Channel in 1999. This DCOM is a fun, spooky adventure for Halloween by Kenneth Johnson, starring Erin Chambers and Ty Hodges. This fantasy adventure drew complaints from parents soon after being released, as it was too dark and scary for many children. Naturally, it's the perfect Disney Channel Original Movie to feature in today's installment of CLIP BREAKDOWN! As always, don't forget to like and subscribe! Shop my merch at: bit.ly/nickmerch

This movie definitely aired during the Halloween season at least a few times between 2002 and 2005, because I remember watching it along with all of my other favorite Halloween DCOM after getting a DVR. My mom would always complain that I wouldn’t let her erase the movies until it was nearly time for them to air again, but I always loved Halloween and would rewatch Halloweentown, The Scream Team, Don’t Look Under the Bed, and Under Wraps throughout the year (among others). I do feel like they didn’t air Don’t Look Under the Bed as frequently as other more “kid friendly” movies, but it definitely wasn’t a “Cry Baby Lane” situation.

i don't think it's that bad. they gave a real kid a part in a kid's movie where none of the scenes were inappropriate. while we all know how crap hollywood is about that kind of thing, there are ways that kids and adults can be actors in the same thing, and there's appropriate boundaries.
@cinnabonbon
@cinnabonbon 2 года назад
@@secretlybees i honestly dont understand the argument that child actors should come back and replace adults in teen/child roles when hollywood is well known to abuse and over work children
@secretlybees
@secretlybees 2 года назад
@@cinnabonbon That wasn't my point. If child actors have protection and it's monitored and done well, they can have normal healthy lives. It's not weird if a child actor works with an adult if those boundaries are in place. Kids like seeing themselves represented in film and TV too. I think it's fine, and even better, for adults to play teen roles because they can work longer, there's going to be less change in them overtime so they can fill the role longer, and teens in media get sexualized, so having adults play them keeps them safer. I don't think it's a black and white issue. Like, children on Broadway often don't go the same route as Hollywood kids. And, young people want to see themselves accurately portrayed. Of course, the current system is awful and bad, but maybe with better protections COULD be safe.

For a kid's movie like this with writing that's almost too good (and fits into this DCOM criteria!) you should definitely review "Under Wraps". The child actors are really great, it's clever and fun and has scary moments and great makeup for a DCOM. It kind of reminded me of the recent 'IT Pt. 1', like the kids felt real - which I think has been an issue in Disney movies/TV shows since this era.
