Honestly the whole "people will notice they're not aging" thing only works if you stay in the same place for like, 15+ years? Plenty of time to raise a child. You can just say you have a good skincare routine. Julie Plec mistreated Kat Graham (Bonnie’s actress) and is part of the reason she was often written out of the show and never given a good opportunity to be happy. The actress has also said that she started losing her hair because they made her wear so many wigs for so much longer than is healthy to wear wigs, because god forbid they let the one black character wear her hair naturally.

The wildest thing about the weird Confederate vampire trend is that there were a ton of Southerners who enlisted in the Union army -- not the majority, obviously, but not a statistically negligible amount either. I was so young when I watched this show and I remember my sister was more into if so watched much longer than me and she was telling me the whole Bonnie's gay dad plot and I just responded "she's still alive?". I feel like that is one thing I will give vampire diaries credit for (even if they may have not meant to) they set Bonnie up as a character that is typically killed off quickly die and subverted that

i always thought of her as the kinda shadow main character. I liked Elena fine but Caroline was easily my favourite. Elena was a blank slate for the fans to project on but Caroline was the person who seemed to have the most actual story, development and progression.

I do believe that that there are certain occasions when an author can be excused for writing "a dumb thing" because they genuinly wrote themselves into a corner and thus had to contribe their way out it. So its less "they want it to be that way" and more "it had to be that way bcause they didnt plan in right"... or simply they didnt thought of a better way. Which, in escence yields the same result so its a bit of a wash

Holy shit. I have watched this video so many times that I read your comment in the voice of Stefan (the video game version) with the cadence and inflection used in the video game. However, it wasn’t until I read your comment that it hit me-the purpose of Stefan’s line is to communicate that he doesn’t have a heart. I love how Jenny sets up the huge emotional and dramatic stakes of the moment near the end where Bonnie figures out how to end the spell and when Elena wakes up and sees her there and asks her how she did it, Bonnie just has this casual "It was super easy. @Agent Bubble Part of it comes with learning how to discipline and be yourself w an adhd mind, in mind. It's easy for me to turn some boring tasks into a game or an opportunity to just hangout in my own head. I've also found that people find me kinda interesting, since I naturally have a different way of verbalizing thoughts. Obviously the other sides of those coins is that I can forget to self care when I'm toiling away, and people can also find me very intense. It's all about perspective. It's hard to view it positively all of the time tho 😕

Not too much unlike Miraculous Ladybug presenting a character who's set up to have an abusive father, where you'd predict the ultimate culmination of his arc would be to break away from familial abuse and heal and learn to live for himself, only for the show to turn around and say "actually he's not even a human, he's just a human-shaped homonculus and is physically unable to go against his 'father's' orders". Or how 13 Reasons Why basically redeemed or narratively praised every single teen character that died throughout the series, thus communicating that dying or offing yourself in your teen years will only make everyone love you, which is, yknow, not a good thing for a show about a teen offing herself to do. I don't know why some writers can't resist making the most irresponsible choices for their kid/teen audiences.

I'm a black woman, was a teen watching vampire diaries and fell in love with show. Bonnie of course was my fave, and loved seeing someone like me as a strong witch. However, I did wonder why Bonnie and Damon never happened, actually wondered why Bonnie was either not on screen or every relationship she had was a failure or they died. Now that i'm older (still watching vampire diaries till this day) and I understood why and what happened to kat graham, really makes me sad. They didn't give her character what she deserved smh

Thank you for addressing the disgusting bias towards Bonnie’s character. Kat Graham (the actress for Bonnie) was the most talented actress and even musician of the entire cast and she herself expressed how incredibly disappointing and demeaning it felt to play a character who wasn’t even a priority, though she presented as a main character Edit: also, Julie Plec was incredibly racist to Kat Graham, the actress who played Bonnie, so you might want to unstan her🥴

My friend and I joked about a 'lost episode' where the National Wildlife Federation comes to Mystic Falls to investigate why they have a 50,000% higher wildlife-related death rate compared to every county in the entire world. Damon would fake alliance with them, and Bonnie would make up a new ability to save the day, of course.

True Blood also used this piece of lore and I enjoyed that. Especially when people would have to say the line "I rescind my invitation" as angrily and dramatically as possible, and then the vampire would involuntarily run out of the house at Flash speed. Also, it's funny that they deliberately threw out other very common pieces of vampire lore - garlic doesn't affect them, crosses don't affect them, I think you can still see them in mirrors IIRC, etc. - yet kept THAT, of all things.

Love this video. I watch it monthly lol. One thing that people might not know is that literally all of the actors who play villains wanted Bonnie as a love interest… it was always shot down. The guy that played Klaus wanted it and they gave him Caroline lol. Another fun fact: the guy that plays Klaus is married to the lady that played Bonnie’s mom.

I remember reading a series in middle school called Cirque Du Freak, and the author of that series tried super hard to make being a vampire seem bad, but the whole time reading that series I just really wanted to be a vampire, and wished it was me going through all these crazy adventures.

Back in the 1930s-1950s, every Hollywood studio had what was known as its own "house style", because each studio cranked out over 40 movies per year, mostly with the same slate of actors, directors and writers under contract. By the 1960s, the studios mostly distributed independently produced films, so no longer had a distinct house style anymore (except for Disney which was still producing every film in-house in those days). I've seen the modern Hallmark Channel compared to old Hollywood, in that they likewise produce about 40 films per year, all using the same production company, and a slate of recurring actors, and most of the movies have the same style.
