As a foster kid, I loved that they not only made a character a foster kid- but made it a point to bring awareness to the struggles we face and the shame we feel because of it. Also, wearing multiple belts, not in our belt loops is 1000% a 2000’s emo/alternative thing lol

I was so obsessed with this movie when I was a kid! I dressed as Chanel (during the "Cinderella" number) for Halloween one year and me and my friends even started our own girl group. "Started a girl group" as in "singing the songs at recess and pretending we were the Cheetah Girls," lol.

We were the Spice Girls recess and lunch, Monday through Friday. I was Sporty, because I had long brown hair. It was almost exclusively dictated by hair colour in our group. Like, to an unhealthy degree. Then again, it's just an excuse for girl power and basic choreo in pre-teens so I'm all for it.

I remember being so offended by the song “Cinderella” in this movie because I’d already heard it covered by the girl group Play. I was obsessed with Play and it pissed me off at 12 years old that the Cheetah Girls got all the credit for the song.🤣

when i was young watching this, i was OBSESSED with how their "thing" was all wearing different outfits with the same cheetah print. i still think that was iconic, like, it's a little cheesy but it's super cute and it'd make them stand out among the millions of other teenage girls who were trying to be in a girl group in nyc. they just sort of abandoned that motif in the sequels and it's a little bit of a bummer but mostly like, ok, so where does the cheetah part come in lmao EDIT: you seem to have wondered if we ever see or hear a single member of aqua's family in the sequels, and that's a reasonable question to ask. in fact, you might even wonder if aqua even slightly maintains her personality or refers to her elusive daddy who sent her to new york in her dialogue. i think that is also a pertinent question thank you for asking it :) also edit: sorry i just love this movie - when chanel tells galleria at the sleepover that they're all frustrated with her behavior, galleria says my favorite line in the history of cinema: "the Cheetah Girls are opening the box behind my BACK????"

I believe you actually see Aqua's dad in this movie at the end when Raven tries to reunite the group by singing Cheetah Sisters lol. But yeah what they did to Aqua's storyline throughout the movies was atrocious.

I spent much of my childhood in hospitals since both of my parents were hit by life threatening illnesses in their early 40s...and I know how lonely it can be. Apologies if someone already said this, but Dorinda refers to herself as “shrimpy” because in the books she’s the shortest member, around 5 feet tall if I remember correctly. I think she was also a year or two younger than the rest of the girls.

You should do Zenón: Girl of the 21st Century, Johnny Tsunami, Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior and The Color Of Friendship. I feel like everyone forgets The Color of Friendship and it was one of my favorite Disney movies. They don’t make original Disney channel movies like these any more.

OK, this was my jam, bread, and butter when I was a kid. I used to listen to the album all the time until it started skipping, my friends and I used to lip-sync to cinderella and put on performances for our parents like it was a THING for me, hell I still listen to the album to this day as a 25-year-old haha

I'm SO glad you focused on how unrealistic it is that the city stopped because a dog was trapped in a hole. It really bugged me when this movie came out because I KNEW this would not be on the news in NYC (spoken as someone who's lived here my whole life). Always thought The Cheetah Girls music was catchy but I can't rewatch the movie, also never saw the sequels.
