I am Tom Saguto, PGA Member and founder of SagutoGolf. Thank you for visiting my instructional page where you can find how to get on the fast track to improving your golfing abilities. Whether you are a seasoned golfing veteran looking for a quick swing tune-up after an on-course emergency, or a beginner just looking to get the most out of your golfing experience, I am here to help you achieve your golfing goals.
My mission as your swing doctor is simple, to help you maximize your enjoyment in game of golf. Because, let’s face it, golf is a hard game.
My philosophy is wholly based on the student having a fun, meaningful experience in a frustrating and complicated game where potential lifelong golfers either quit because it is too difficult or that they experience some form of swing-related pain or discomfort. I mitigate these problems by focusing entirely on the student’s needs and goals while teaching a golf swing method that ultimately takes stress off of the common pain areas of the swing.

it actually is really true though. Your backswing will feel really short... but then you look at how far the ball goes and you forget about it relatively quickly. It's also much more comfortable on the shoulders.
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Год назад
Absolutely, Aaron! The key here is get to - but not go beyond - your body's natural stopping point in the backswing where the tilting, turning, and extending motions are complete, the lead arm has crossed the chest 45 degrees, and the wrists are properly set (preferably with a flat or slightly bowed lead wrist). This is the point where if we were to try to go any further any or all of the following will occur: 1) the lead arm will bend and/or lift 2) the wrists will break down 3) the lead knee will kick inward towards the trail side 4) the lead shoulder will level out and lose its orientation towards the ball 5) weight will shift into the trail side and bring the low point back with it, resulting in inconsistent contact and unpredictable ball flight. 6) you'll "chicken wing" and/or flip through impact 7) pain, discomfort, and/or possible injury We don't need to try to get to "parallel" with this swing, and fighting your body in an attempt to do so will result in some combination of the above issues. If you execute this swing properly you will have created width and plenty of distance for that club to travel by taking it in deep, and that will enable you to harness the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". Tom

@@SagutoGolfI tried doing this when I was just bringing it straight back. Never was super consistent, but I hit it decent. Tried this way, couldn’t even touch the ball. Started chunking every time or topping or completely wiffing. Tried going back to my old swing. Same thing. Just finished at the range and now I can’t hit the ball at all. Appreciate it. 👍

@SagutoGolf

No need to "crop the club in the slot" if we've already put it there, right Rielly?? 😎 By keeping it on one plane and creating depth we are able to access the tremendous stored power source known as angular momentum, where physics and geometry collide. This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously. TS

Indeed, Eric, how interesting and sad it is that with all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still can't break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness, because - as I say - life is too short to play bad golf! Thanks! TS

I was taught this yrs ago by a pro teacher to fix a slice and it works. But he warned it can be a huge negative as well. It will fix a slice instantly but your misses can start to become way over cooked lefties because of getting too flat. Can also hurt your apex and descent angle which can make stopping 5-7 irons on greens very hard. I learned a great happy medium just recently. Address ball with say a 7 iron. Place alignment stick between feet and ball and leave about 10-12 inches behind ball toward back foot. Your takeaway should not cross over stick. Take club back past stick and then start your roundness. Holy cow what a diff. My smash factor went from 120’s to a consistent 138+, and i can now fade or draw instead of just draw. My apex also went from 80’s and 90’s to 115+, so my stopping power is almost instant if not spinning back. Great video though that will help a ton of ppl. I played doing that for 10-12 yrs and it got me to a 10 handicap. I do admit as i got better i started to see some negatives though. But If you wanna rip a 7 iron 180 yards with a beautiful draw, there you go.

I'm very glad to know that this tip resonated well with you, @SS 03. The way I see it, we can either simply put the already existing natural laws to work for us, or we can twist, morph, torque, contrive, and otherwise mess with the principles of physics and geometry in an effort to better suit ourselves, all the while recognizing that at the point of impact those pre-existing laws are going to be the only things that matter to the ball! By the way, since you mentioned that "steep to shallow" thing, I thought you might enjoy this episode on matching your backswing and downswing planes to enjoy crispy ball striking bliss: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0IxI_qmaF_A.html Keep up the great work! The only ways to take a golf club straight back is to: A. Only move your arms with zero core turn. B. Turn your core in a circle while your arms go in a direction that is perceived to be straight back from the ball and separate from the body. A. Has no power and is virtually impossible unless it’s a short swing. B. Can be a problem bc the arms and core have separated and gone in different directions on the backswing. For a lotta folks that can be a challenge to get all the parts synced back up in the downswing unless you are Fred Couples. 😁. Great video , Tom. -Monty H

Awesome! Those are some *serious* yardage gains. Nice job!! This is where I get confused about the backswing. I see most instruction stating to not have an inside takeaway because it causes the over the top move.. I will try this and see if it helps ! Thanks Tom
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf 8 месяцев назад
I know, Nick, but consider that despite all the advances in equipment, technology, golf course grooming, etc. the average golfer still struggles to break 100. Epic failures within the realm of “conventional” instruction, perhaps??? So many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings - such as taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the arms, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of inconsistency and chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness…. The swing is a tilted circle (or arc, if we wish to get technical), the circumference of which extends from the ball to above and behind our shoulders. As such, if we are going to remain on that circle/arc it requires the hands and club to take a slightly inward path - not a disconnected snatch or roll to the inside - just a natural tracing of the outer rim or circumference. The feeling of "straight back" can easily pull the golfer off of that preestablished geometry right from the start, and from there precise compensatory actions are necessary if there is any hope of returning the clubface to the ball on the proper path time after time. Here are some lessons related to this: - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1gzcyrJ_yBw.html - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WxDD63quyk8.html - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ylVWSenTtOw.html We create depth in this swing, and that enables us to harness the power of swinging on a circle through a seemingly effortless force known as angular momentum. I'm very glad to know that my instruction content and teaching style are resonating well with you!! This is a very body-friendly motion as supported by the fact that a significant percentage of my online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. It all begins with a proper setup which provides for a free-flowing motion. Upon that good foundation a repeatable swing which produces consistently crispy impact can be built. Have you looked into the comprehensive, structured, sequential learning platform of the online school yet? That's where - among many other courses and lessons covering various aspects of the game - you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish. I'm glad that helped you, Marvin! By the way, since you are liking my channel's content, I think you will also enjoy my FREE mini course - “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” - where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. @SagutoGolf

Not necessarily, Jim. The lie angle has to do with the condition of the clubface at impact. Awesome tip! QUESTION: Is the backswing "in" the same way for your driver as your irons?
@SagutoGolf
@SagutoGolf Год назад
It's essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. (Those shaft plane changes do affect the degree of "in", but that should happen automatically.) To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some driving range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-o0xscMyN3v8.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content. Not necessarily, Donnie. It really comes down to the clubface condition at impact. It's always a good idea to get professionally fitted, because beyond our swings we are all unique in terms of body type. Here's a video documenting my professional fitting session in case you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xp2c-oYQRVI.html TS
