"There's food in your lawn". I will love you forever for saying that! Respect respect respect!! I'm an old lady and it's so nice to hear that people remember this stuff. You have a great and positive influence on people and so it's wonderful that you teach this. Following you the past couple of years it's been a real treat. I find kindred spirits on your page.

I tell people for years that there's food in your lawn. And, ahhh, I just saw Roundup rebates in the Ibotta app!!!🤮 My husband slowly gave into my insisting he not even use commercial fertilizer on the yard decades ago because I told him we might have to eat the weeds. Pet owners should know to triple wash then boil all weeds 10minutes to eliminate anything a pet vacated...🤪 And everyone should learn about edible landscaping plants! There's loads of aesthetically-pleasing plants in yards that have edible parts. A few leaves from here/there fill a pot. Boil 10 minutes!

This was my first time watching one of her videos and my ears really perked up when she said "There's food in your lawn". I'm glad to see more people are teaching this. I hate seeing people killing their "weeds" when they could be eating them.

Had an unusual use for old oil. I had a stack of bricks in my garden, the type that have holes in them, and noticed the other day that there were hornets entering the holes. I carefully checked and sure enough there were several adults and they were building a nest. I had some old canola oil so I carefully approached the bricks and was able to keep a distance and pour the oil into the holes. It worked great, killed not only the hornets but also dissolved the nest. I was surprised that it worked but glad it did!

I’d love to delve into this subject more with you! I began studying ways to enhance long term food preservation when I came across an article that described the process used by native Americans in making pemmican. They added slippery elm bark to the rendered fat which was later added to the dried meat. Pemmican has been found by archaeologists and determined to be hundreds of years old. Slippery elm bark was added to patented pharmaceutical ointments as a preservative a century ago. Anyhoo.. slippery elm has become scarce and expensive due to its popularity and also tree diseases. With that in mind, I went on to explore other botanicals with similar oil preservative properties but only found two and they were not indigenous or easily sourced. I know that Rosemary is used in some alternative cancer therapies and it is a strong anti- oxidant. Your comment re-awakened my quest. Preserved oils and rancid oils are the subjects of exponentially expanding implications; food costs, packaging, health, and more. Thanks and on with the study!

A bit off topic but I had to chuckle when you mentioned liking weeds in your lawn. I live in a very wooded area where grass is almost impossible to grow due to the heavy shade most places so our "lawn" is a mixture of moss, low ground cover, and about anything else. My husband was horrified one time when asked about weed killer on our lawn. He explained that as long as it was green, it was welcome to grow!

I'm being "eco-conscious" and thrifty regarding lawn mowing. I set the blade high. I let more than a week or two go by before mowing again. If the plantain, dandelions, clover, and sweet violet are good sized, I harvest them for dehydrating. This week I also found self-heal (prunella) growing in the grass, so I pulled some up to re-plant in a space all of its own where it won't get mowed. This also allows the shorter grass to reseed itself.

I just found some rancid Olive Oil and wanted to find out what could be done with it. You have a good video on it! Thank you!! Will try out some of the suggestions. What do you think about using the rancid Olive Oil on wood kitchen items.....Cutting Board, wood utensils, wooden handle items etc.?

You could, or I would add a few drops of essential or fragrance oil if you have it.
