The cello guy ruined it in my opinion. I don't think the people playing this understand the idea behind the piece. The cello should've lead with less delay; more heroically and confidently without that little pause he took @ 0:51. The original SNES version had the timings and delivery perfect. Basically, the idea of the song is it's like you're moving into a new phase of reality, like death. The lead cello guides the echo strings, with assuredness akin to one that's been living and observing FROM the new perspective the entire time. Here: watch?v=iArK7AZe6-I
The only time I ever put a controller down and stopped playing as a kid just because I wanted to listen to the music was for this song. I remember there a feature in the menu where you can pull up the BGM from each level and I would put this on and let it play for hours until someone finally got sick of the repetition.

@Pirate Gamer it’s been at least 20 years but I think it’s hidden. Iirc you repeatedly tap down on the Dpad in the menu and eventually it starts scrolling through the different BGM. I could be wrong. Like I said it’s been a while.

This is a masterpiece. So nostalgically bittersweet to hear it; to reminisce about coming home after school on a Friday--homework can wait until tomorrow, or Sunday...evening--and fire up the Super NES. Parents were still together. All friends were still alive. Hadn't yet fallen in love, nor experienced a broken heart... Sheesh, I've got issues.
@@coolchrisable I could say the same about my friends -- though they're not physically dead, my bond with them is. Been separated for decades and only found some of them on social media -- they have their in their own adult stage of life now and I feel that they don't have the time and feel that there's no need to bond again. I also don't feel like reaching out to them again as I also have a different life since we were last together. 😔

Like many people here, DKC2 and David Wise was huge for me age 5-8. Never did beat Toxic Tower. Also, this arrangement is lovely, the cello solo and the ostinato xylophone make it for me.
