When the active grille shutter mechanism on your mk5 mondeo is damaged there is a high chance your radiator cooling fans could be on full blast whenever the engine is running which will eventually lead to your cooling fans burning out.
As always Alan a great watch ‘ you can tell how sad I am I was a mechanic myself for fifty years but still love watching your channel keep the great work up 🚗🚗🔧🔧 cheers 👍👍
That’s a lot of top and bottom synchronised slats Alan. You are one for your slats. Don’t have nightmares with slats. Sleep well ( crimewatch strapline ). Quite a satisfying vid watching it. Thanks.
Issue is more complex crap on the car to make it green , but in overall greenish terms it's just a tick box for manufacturer ..but end user pays for it in cost of repairs
Rufford Ford videos come to mind for me as a Ford Kuga owner. The quoted max depth through water is a piddling 20cm. I won’t be going trough anything deeper having seen this.
Thankyou Alan after watched your video I went to check my car because is very slow heating I can see those top shutters are blocked open..I thankyou I wish you wher near I would try book an apontmen at you specialist garage..
The lady who ran into the long hitch on my ML Class in her Mondeo told me how much it cost to repair. Now I know why. BTW, I was putting petrol in my car at a pump at the time of the accident.
Hi Alan. My other half has taken a liking to the updated front bumper on MK4 Mondeo that have the DRL's. We've got a 2009 Titanium X Estate and I wondered if you think it could be done without too much hassle. I'm an ex mechanic so understand about electrics, modules etc. Is there enough provision on the pre facelift to wire in the DRL's? Do they have to be coded? TIA
Does this apply to the mk4? Mine just went into limp after slowing down after a long run and I think it could be the problem although there are no codes showing. Great video as usual Alan
hey alan a bit off rhe vidro topic wana ask where is a front window defrost fuse ? got bit frost here now car is covered in ice every morning rear on works grand bt front not cant find where the fuse sits thnx
At the start of october someone pulled out on me, very minor damage to my mk5. Similiar damage to the one in the video. Anyway it went to fords accident repair place & when i got it back they'd not plugged the grille shutters back in so the fans were constantly on.
Great video, Alan. I don't know why those fancy slats are needed. What happened to the good old fashioned thermostat, which stops water flowing through the radiator when the engine is cool and warming up?
They still do for temperature regulation with a thermostat, although it itself is electronic. The slat's closing is to get an even quicker warmup to meet the eco mentalist emission regs
So from it being new, I’ve always complained that it just takes forever to warm up-The engine I mean- So today at 5°, I went and had a look at the front they were open started the engine and went back and had a look after a minute or so, and they were still open?
is the intercooler closed off as well? my missus has problems like that now + again, she puts thrush cream on her slats to stop her fan burning... keep up the good work young man
My mk5 have coolant overheating light on my dash but we can’t seem to find the cause. Needle goes in the red for a few minutes then goes back to normal. During this time the fans chipped in
Does anyone know how to bypass the slat mechanism motor so that it tricks the ecu into thinking it's there? I've removed mine as I live in Australia and it would love the extra airflow. When I purchased the I noticed that the thermo fans did not work when I was driving it home. Hooked them directly up to 12v and sure enough it needs new ones. Upon investigating the slats were damaged, I've had the car for 6 months without thermo fans but the weather is now warming up so I will replace them but don't want them to suffer the same fate of course. Parts for these cars here are not cheap! No issues with overheating, in fact the car usually doesn't even come up to operating temp by the time I get to work in the morning (ambient temps 10-15°c on the highway)
Alan is it maybe possible that you could do a video on what to look for or check and how, when the “front” heated windscreen stops working on the MK5 Mondeo? I recently updated from the MK4 to the MK5 and just found out mine isn’t working 🙄
I have a Galaxy I was replacing a fuse and I noticed 2 fuses, 1 for left hand heated windscreen and one for right hand, so it heats in 2 Half's, so Mondeo maybe the same, could be a simple fuse!
Alan, would you mind me messaging you directly regarding the shutter system? I have a solution for these that might save you some headache and costs in the long run if you do these often. Cheers.
Temp over 15c, no arguments missus that morning, a chill attitude and some warm sunshine coming in and the clips are just ok. Don't go with any of the former.
