A spin-off title where you play as the "resistance" humans on Earth when it's first being taken over by demons pre-Doom Eternal would actually be kind of cool. This footage, specifically, looks extremely generic, but it would be kind of cool to have a spin-off title where you get to see what happened and you get to use all of the equipment used before the demons took over Earth.
I would buy this as a spinoff to Doom. Imagine a story about our futile and hopeless resistance against the hordes of hell. The humanity, the drama, the sacrifice. It's a great addition to the universe. We stand together in this fight, then at the end of the game, Doom Eternal starts. That is so empowering to the player. Like yeah, Metal!
yeah that sounds really good, they should show. abit of human resistance to the forces of hell in the next iteration ,would add a lot more depth to the world,it will be interesting to see how humans view the slayer.
I agree. I felt like this could fill the story void between Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, from the perspective of a less powerful resistance fighter. Kind of like Halo 3 ODST.
0:38 "Proof-of-concept using Doom 4 1.0 assets". That would suggest it was made after the original concept was scrapped, but only re-used old assets to show how it should work in a finished game.

Despite the fact that it's comletely different from Doom 2016, I can clearly see a lot of interconections between the two versions (animations, moves, glory kills), so I wouldn't say the devs' efforts were completely flushed down the toilet
this was hugo martin's real job and why he got promoted , he conjured a game with a consistent design/identity cobbled together from scavenged assets of various builds . Basically he was able to save lots of wasted time /effort and money in making 2016
for something WAYYYY BETTER.the opening bits, your sprite for the shotgun is too similar the one we see in fallout 4. no quick reload, no visual speed.
I wouldn't be against something like this as a spin-off, maybe a prequel to DOOM Eternal where you're playing the every day person trying to survived hell's invasion. It'd basically be DOOM's version of Half-Life 2, minus the main character being "THE ONE" (i.e. Gordon Freeman, DOOM Slayer/Guy, etc.).
Duuude, AMAZING IDEA, of course there would have to be some technology upgrades because of the years, but yeah, this guy could definitely be the DOOM Marine/DOOM Guy trying to hold of demons as much as he could
For some reason, this actually gave me some Metro vibes, more like Metro if it was done by Infinity ward/ Treyarch. I'm thankful that we got Doom 2016 instead of this.
@@Juanhernandez-zx7kt I tried to play Doom 2016 graphics are good, but characters, levels, and gameplay are very similar and monotonous. I passed two levels and delete it. Maybe it's good for kids.

If you want a game with good story, go play Heavy Rain. Don't accuse a game full of gore for being "for kids" just because you didn't enjoy it.
This actually looks more accurate to Doom 2. Most of the original Doom 2 took place in daylight and even the skybox in this alpha looks similar to Doom 2's skybox. The color scheme of the world has a brown earth tone look to it just like the original palette. Most of the survivors in the alpha have a more post apocalyptic in dress just like how the Doom marine looked on the original Doom 2 box cover.
If it released now as a possible spin off or just game thats between 2016 and eternal showing what happened to humanity with more survival horror gameplay it would probably just help the franchise, or just be a good game people like
I actually really like some of the concepts that didnt make doom 2016, like shooting the demon and it falling into other demons making it falter. Hitting demons with the shotgun, kicking demons after shooting them to stun them. Wish some of that would've made final cut

This isn't a "2007 Game". You can't compare this to the Games that released in 2007. The Release of this would have been around 2009-2010. The Games that did release around that time started developement years earlier. You are comparing finished Games to one in a really early stage of production.
There was a recent interview with the game director of Doom Eternal and he was saying that they scrapped it because, while it was a good game, it "didn't feel like Doom" And that's such a good call, honestly. It sucks for a game to get scrapped but I would never had bought Doom 4 over Doom 2016
For me, this might be a good concept. This would have portrayed what's happening on Earth while the Slayer is on Mars. Just add orange atmosphere and lots of fire.
I feel if they took the Doom name off of it it would be a pretty cool game. Cause yea this doesn’t feel like Doom, this feels like a mix of Resident Evil, Metro, and Dead Space in a way. I think I would have liked this
I hope Id software releases a DLC based on this for Doom eternal. How mankind lost to the demons where you control a Navy Seal or marine working under Samuel Hayden fighting off demons. A hell knight would basically be a final boss fight,in which your team suffers massive casualties but finally manages to kill one. In the distance, you see a portal opening and a hulking man covered in green Armor emerging, which draws the attention of ALL the demons around as they start shrieking. He is here.....
OmegaKingBoo that’s essentially what doom 3 was. Which to be honest it’s not a bad game but it’s not doom. Doom is known for being a face paced bloodbath that allows to slaughter hoards of enemies. Doom 3 gave us jump scares and environments so dark that if your flashlight dies you were just walking into walls. And it never felt like you were overwhelmed with enemies like it does in every other doom game. As I said it’s not a bad game but it’s not doom at its core.
Bethesda sucks, but Zerglings still are cute. Didn’t forget that at all like I said it’s not a bad game it’s just not what doom is, which is ripping, tearing and metal. They just slapped a doom name on it so it would have a recognizable name. Even the dramatic redesign of the enemies takes away from what makes it doom. Doom 2016 did it right by just upgrading the classic sprites and the core mechanics of the classics which was the fast paced murder rampage through overwhelming numbers of demons while double bass makes your ears bleed. But that’s all just an opinion I’m sure plenty of people feel plenty of other ways about it.

You don’t even play as the doom guy/ doom slayer, you’re a typical normal marine. And considering when everyone talks doom canon doom 3 more times than not doesn’t even get included and is put into its own universe separate from every other doom game.
This would be a good spin off of the Doom storyline like what they did with MGRR. It's interesting and would be a nice way of expanding the Doom universe
As much as I love where the franchise went, I still would have loved to see what this would be like. Definitely not the Doom I grew up loving, but a good game nonetheless, I’m sure.
A slower game where you go around killing demons in a much slower pace? Sounds like Doom to me. I love how people associate fast-paced badass action with doom because of the newer games but Doom was never that until 2016 maternal which is even faster anything that isn't like those games isn't Doom.

It's the doom slayer basically going though his never ending cycle of demon killing, and since doom 2016 and doom eternal take place after doom (93) and doom 2 that means this is the second time that earth was attacked. And since the slayer has been trapped in hell as of the first game, earth was completely taken over by demons this time, with no one to stop them. Also if you look at the first teaser trailer for doom eternal it shows the original doom slayers armor from doom (93). The grey helmet and chest armor without sleeves, but he has the doom slayers 2016 leg armor. sorry about going on about this but I just love theorizing and talking about the lore of the games.

Im definitely feeling doom 3 vibes while seeing this. Makes me excited because I would imagine that having demons from hell would be scary and heart pounding.
When DooM 2016 was released, people bemoaned id Software for stealing Sgt. Mark IV's glory kill system and implementing it in their own game. Based on this footage, however, it looks like it may have been the other way around. The glory kills in this footage look very similar to some of the ones in 2016, which shows this is something they had in mind over 12 years ago. Given that Brutal Doom is only 9 years old, it's not possible for id Software to have stolen the idea. Now, I am willing to given Sgt Mark IV the benefit of the doubt. I don't know when this footage was made known to the public, so it's entirely possible Sgt Mark IV had the same idea. It's also possible that id may have seen the success of Brutal DooM and decided to bring back the glory kill system they originally created. Who knows. Either way, I'm glad we have both Brutal DooM and DooM 2016, and look forward to playing DooM Eternal.
I've never seen someone moaning about "stealing glory kill system", but i've seen some Brutal Doom fans saying it's amazing to have it in Doom 2016, myself included.
The concept of the glory kills dates back to the comic from the 90's, and meelee executions in an fps have been here even before Brutal Doom, serious Sam 3 had them and it came a year before Brutal doom...
@@diosoth There aren't many "ideas" in Brutal doom. It's just doom but faster paced with more gore. There's nothing all that new about it except for some new guns.
I like how it melds together artistically with what we’ve seen from Doom Eternal, especially those floating hell towers. Knowing that humans were still fighting the demons by the time Doom Slayer arrived, one could easily imagine that the events we see in this little sample could be happening.

It'd be a weird game to play the Doom story from humanity's perspective. The power fantasy is too important, I don't see it being received well. I'd be interested in seeing their perspective, the formation of the ARC and such, but I just don't know how it would PLAY, still be fun, and be a Doom game.
@@cybersteel8 tbh from what most fans are saying in the comments it would have been received good if it was a spin off game showing off the struggles of the humans trying to hold off the demons If it was just released as a doom game and normally advertised it probably would have not been received well The power fantasy’s of doom is important yes, but as soon as you add a shit ton of lore and questions that you can’t answer by using a full on bad ass unkillable character then it’s not fully important It’s like when games have comic books telling the story from a different perspective to make the plot make more Sense and be tied together I love doom 2016 and eternal but the thing those games can’t get into your head is how actually scary it would be meeting one of these demons, since your literally a unstoppable killing machine And that’s the thing that’s missing from doom, a spin off tie in showing what humanity did and then them trying their best to hold back all of these demons until the doom slayer shows up
Looking back now, this feels more like Doom-Eternal the midquel: regular humies dealing with demons before Doom Slayer shows up . Honestly this might make a decent spin off if done right, and would satisfy the wierdos that don't like the quake-esque combat of Eternal
I know, i would be cool to see a game about an full scale war between Human and Hell, like Edge of Tommorow (without resurection) because human already have exo-sksleton suit. BOOM !!! A solid 60 bucks game right there.

With the slayer out of the question, the game could really emphasize what the hell happened between 2016 and eternal, but with a much higher emphasis on survival than quake-like combat. Too bad all this got completely scrapped instead of reworked into an expansion..
Honestly I like doom but since your the damn doom slayer who can kill demons with a flick of his wrist you never really see how actually scary it would be to meet one of the demons especially when your trying to escape through the sewers or sumthin cuz the damn world above has been invaded and it currently getting fucked up I’d love to see this as a spin off survival horror game i think that would be really good
A game of earth trying to survive the hell apocalypse of doom would be great!! Especially if the character you play as dies in cutscenes and you start playing as someone else from the cutscene, to show how much of a badass doomguy is for not dying
They should make a DLC or a cheaper stand-alone game that serves as a prequel to Doom Eternal with what is happening all along at Earth while the Doom Slayer was gone for a while. It'd be an interesting story with the end setting up Doom Eternal.

This would be good for a new Doom game after Doom Eternal After the Doomslayer defeated the icon of sin the survivors of the earth raises up and joins the Doomslayer in cleaning up the remains of the demons on earth treating him like a general or king that fights alongside them
It’d be a neat spinoff, like a what umbrella corps should’ve been. Or like Halo 3 ODST, a game where instead of the doom slayer you’re just some grunt cleaning up the mess, fighting hopeless odds in a more grounded way while still keeping some otp gore and guns.
It's cool how the shotgun is the same model as the one in DOOM 2016. This game wouldn't have been bad, but it wouldn't have been the Master Piece that we got. Could we get the Prototype to fuck around with tho?
@@JudgeHolden2003 nope, extremely different level design, you cannot finish a level in under 20 fucking seconds, D2016 is really fun to explore, and the secrets are much more balanced rather than the super secret FBI wallpaper-cutting through. Classic DOOM, is not THE MOST FAST PACED GAME EVER IM SONIC as goddamn humans think, it only has fast movement, that's all, normal gamers find themselves hiding behind walls and shoot the long distanced demons with the shotgun. Classic DOOM does NOT incourage the player to be fast and agile like D2016.. It doesn't have fast weapon switch, it doesn't have jumping. All of these "faults" that don't fit with the fast paced movements are not in Quake, and that is a good thing. Quake is the real fast paced experience people should talk about. Not saying Classic DOOM sucks, it's in my top 10 games, but it isn't at ALL imo better than DOOM 2016. Just I hate people who praise the originals for their ""FAST PACED GAMEPLAY"".
I myself think this could totally work as an earth-based spinoff like of course it wouldn't play like mainline dooms do, you're not playing doomguy, you cannot do what doomguy does. Feel like that would help increase the perception of him as the unstoppable killing machine that he is even more
Doom 3 is Doom 93 in a realistic sci-fi setting where you just started as a normal marine. Doom 4 therefore is Doom II in Doom 3 setting. I don't see a problem with that. I think it is a very nice concept. I'd like to see both Doom 4 as an extension of Doom 3 and the Doom (2016) series.
I agree with other commenters; this game does actually look pretty good and a lot of fun but it in no way resembles Doom at all and to release it under that name would have been unforgivable. That being said, a spinoff game would be really interesting where you take the roll of average soldiers trying and failing to hold off Hell's armies until the Slayer shows up
This can still be used and fit in as a short DLC story of how the human resistance was holding up against the Demons while the DoomSlayer was on earth.
Its actually in DOOM's nature to have cut-content that is a completely different game, look at DOOM (1993)'s alpha builds. If Id Software still has the prototypes of DOOM (2016), they could easily polish up some more and make it a spin-off game.
Doom: judgement day or doom; armageddon. Human protagonist not the slayer. And be wayyy weaker with a good storyline and with some rpg elements. Yeah, it would be great.
It would be pretty cool to have a spin-off with say a lone surviver and even reference at the doom Slayer a couple of times. and hint at the loan surviver a few times in doom eternal as well and have less fast paced gameplay. And maybe more survival elements. And different, lower ranking demons with a more fallout feel to them. You wouldn't interact with the doom Slayer in any way just cool Easter eggs like how portal two had references to ratman.
Some of those soldiers look like they could have been playable characters. You could have a 3 player co-op Doom spinoff about the resistance group on earth holding off the hoards of monsters until the Slayer shows up
what if you could command some of those human troops? like at the very least ordering to take cover in different spots, another cool thing would be that if u die you could swap with another one of your human soldiers (like multiple lives), because the demons would be really hard to kill for a normal human, so difficulty could go up
Honestly, even though this wouldn't have been a good doom 4, this could be a REALLY good doom prequal, a prequal where it shows us what happened during the hell invasion on earth, and what the military tried doing to stop it.
I think the Doom 4 project was scrapped and Rage 1 was made instead. Like the sewer assets and some of the enemy models resemble the mutants. Don't completely remember.
It'd be dope if they reused some of these assets (the character models, weapons, ect...) as decoration in Eternal, like the skyrim iron helmet in hell in DOOM.
Q17 it looks like they used the possessed humans from the original Doom 4 as the basis for the former human soldiers in Eternal, despite their DooM origins. I'm pretty sure they reused a lot of city and NPC assets too, looking at the new gameplay. You are aware of how much they already repurposed for 2016, right?
Looks like type of game that i wanted to actually see from DooM lore its from times when invasion comes to earth and how humans started to fight against it... this could be a very nice game.
Thank god the executive who hated this prototype knew it was so far removed from Doom and ordered to scrap it while they could, that shit takes a lot of balls and Doom is in a much better place now thanks to that. Especially since the devs had way more fun making Doom 2016. Although it seems id are reusing and tweaking some assets from the prototype to use in Doom Eternal so I'm totally okay with that. It looks like the gameplay may even survive into a DLC if the year one season pass description is anything to go by.
Mr Wick doom: invasion and you play as the military fighting the demons and towards the end they lose hope because they realize that some cannot be killed by conventional weapons and that’s when doomguy arrives
I know everyone says Doom 4 was going to be a COD clone; but I really don't see that. The brief sample of actual gameplay we got looks a lot like Doom 3 just with less of a horror element. It even looks like they had the basic idea of Glory Kills down.
I guess they were using the whole "Hell on earth" type concept. But you can clearly see that they saved and used this concept for Doom: Eternal which I am glad for.
