The thing with Buffy and relationships, it's not just the trauma she had with Angel but deep rooted abandonment issues from her father. Then taking into account all the, 'You're the Slayer and the Slayer is always alone'. She pushes people away before she can get hurt. That's why the scoobies are so important.

Of course Giles randomly bought the Word of Valios at a sorcerer's estate sale. That seems like the most normal thing for him to do in the Buffy universe.

These reactions have made S4 about 100x better for me - never gonna be a Riley stan, but its fun seeing you guys root for him.

Funniest part to me is still that last scene, where they're all pointing at the TV like, "But why did you turn it off, Spike? Noooooo," and he's all, "Let's kill something! Let's go kick some demon ass, for puppies and Christmas! COME ON!" Makes me laugh so hard every time.

Doomed was a great fun episode with the comedy between Spike and Xander hilarious. It's almost like the 'Odd Couple' the two of them in the basement is a sitcom I would pay to watch. The last part when Spike gets recognised by Riley and tries to put on an American accent was hilarious.

When you're excited for watching Buffy reactions but have major hang-ups about this season and have to stay silent.

Buffy is simply scared.. a guy who actually likes her and is not 300 years old or a douchebag? No way she’s gonna fall for that easy, her first impulse is to refuse it, she’s not used to good love/affection except for her friends.

Season 4 has some of the best stand-alone episodes of any season, even if it's one of the weaker seasons overall.

Spike getting a spin off at this point would have been bad, he's just a dick who has bad things happen to him. Entertaining yes, a compelling focus of character development absolutely not. But watching him eat shit is hilarious. Riley is a pretty divisive character, personally I always liked him. He's a mid-Western farmboy who is just happy to be relevant and is fundamentally optimistic, personally I think there's room for more of that in the show

We had a 5.7 in Salt Lake at around 5:15am..I was so groggy, my bed was trying to toss me out, but funny enough, my very first thought was The Exorcist..and Something Bad was happening..took quite a while for me to figure it out..I really don’t want to experience that or certainly anything stronger ever again!

This episode has a tough job of following Hush, honestly it's not my favourite. The ending totally defies the laws of physics, and there's some weird ADR going on with Giles in the courtyard scene which always bothers me. It's also just a bit.. cheesy? But it's all forgiven for the absolute golden comedy moments from Spike. I think I rewatched the little 'I am even remotely scary anymore? Mrrrrmrmr' scene a billion times on my first watch.

SPOILERS FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES This Buffy reaction channel hasn't shown up in my notifications for a month. Luckily I know what day they release the Buffy episodes to RU-vid. "Again! Oh, as usual, dear." and "Really! You're not just saying that." are the best lines in the episode. I agree with Buffy telling Giles off for dismissing the the earthquake. I would trust Buffy's slayer instincts (not her dating instincts as I will rant about a bit in the long paragraph below) about a bit over Giles Watcher instincts. Even Suraj recognized it from 5:38-5:41. Yes. "Sod off" is British slang. It means go away. Buffy's not acting stupid or self-involved, as Riley says to her for saying no to a relationship. She has genuine concerns that she needed to deal with before being with somebody romantically. She didn't realize that until she saw him stepping from Joe Normal into her Slayer life. It doesn't matter whether there is truth to what Riley says or not. If she doesn't deal with the issues things get rushed. He isn't respecting Buffy's decision and is being rude to her about it. Its sad that neither Riley, nor Willow in previous episodes for pushing them together, respect the fact that she has issues and has made these realizations and that she needs to deal with them. They want to go at their pace when Buffy needs to go at her own pace. It's sad that Riley calls her names for saying no. Whatever reasons he or others come up with to think calling people names is, isn't defendable because there were other things he could have said besides name-calling to get his point across. Buffy getting together with him without dealing with the issues she clearly has, makes Riley more of Buffy's rebound (just like Parker was meant to be). And Riley has helped put himself there. By this episode's end he has convinced her she's in the wrong and needs to date him. Buffy may as well have got together with Xander the night he made fun of her for believing in vampires, which was also the same day he said, "Can I have you" as the very first words spoken to her. Her issues with slaying combined with Xander being rude make him an easy 'no' for her, but she actually tried with Riley until she realized she needed time because of Angel and Faith issues. Not allowing herself that time is only serving to make Riley the rebound. Not waiting a while after agreeing to the time that even Riley said was a good idea at the beginning of the episode speaks volumes also shows they are jumping the gun. None of that even adds to Riley saying phrases like "what are you?" instead of "who are you?" Seriously? Buffy had a right to be annoyed or worse at that one. Riley was fighting against serious issues and I don't see the episode's end with them as a good thing. Buffy hasn't dealt with her issues yet. I think the episode is called _Doomed_ not just because of the main threat, but because like with "None of us ae going to have happy normal relationships" in episode eight, this title is foreshadowing Buffy and Riley's relationship. Spike, of course was being a jerk in the moment and toying with Xander and Willow, but they (as well as fans) wouldn't take it so hard if it didn't have some truth to it. An American actor (James Marsters as Spike) portraying a British character who has to do a phony American accent. It's such a great moment.

For some reason i was never the biggest fan of this ep. Maybe cause it has the tough job of following the masterpiece that is HUSH. But it kinda feels uninspired to me, willow and xander seem to loose steam in this one. I like the whole Ruffy dynamics but the end of the world (again) stuff felt pretty lame. Spike saved the episode though. And I like the whole going back to high school :)

This episode is weird just like Buffy’s thinking. She was willing to go all in with Jerky Parker who is very normal and if he wasn’t a jerk and they would of been together she would of always had to lie to him and she would of been putting him in danger a lot. Very weird thinking in her part

The doorway in an earthquake being safe is accurate, BUT ONLY IF IT HAS NO DOOR. That tidbit isn't properly explained in most cases, so people can get seriously hurt by the door swinging against them if the quake is strong enough. :o Love all of your takes on the show so far. I didn't start fully watching Buffy until I was in my late teens, and even though it was ridiculous at times to me even then, I'm glad to see my nostalgia glasses aren't on so strongly that I've imagined the charm this whole time. Some seasons are more serious or more camp respectively, but I hope you continue to enjoy the show as it continues on to even wilder moments.
