Thank you soooo much for clarifying. I had a trainer she just said you have 4 clocks .. mind you my 1st week in the truck. She couldn’t tell me what the 4 clocks were … trying to learn how to do paper logs & she made it frustrating I couldn’t take it no more . Hopefully when I switch to Schneider… my trainer will be better than KLLM lease driver.

@@mikestruckinwithbigdaddy5233 our UK regulations are a 60 HR working week only. A 90 hrs driving with in a 2 consecutive week period. A normal 11 shift every day but you can do a 15 hr shift 3* a week with a reduced rest period of 9 hrs. Drive time is 9 hrs a day. 4:30 hr blocks consistent driving= a 45 minutes break then you get your other 4:30 HR block before you have to park up for the night. You can drive for 10 hrs 2*a week only this is like an extension. Our WTD aka (working time directive) can be split into two parts ie. I can work up to 6 hr and take 15 minutes break so long as I don't exceed my 4:30 hr driving time ! This give me a longer period to complete work and keeps my first 4:30 HR block running for what ever time I have left? Say 3hr ect. But I must take my 30 minutes break within the next 6 hrs of my working shift exp = 8am start I take break about 10am 15mins then say 30 minutes around 3pm (45mins) this also resets my drive time to back to 4:30hrs. it does get more complicated but it's the best way I can explain it to you as our basic really 🙂 do you guys use a digital tacho card?

Hey man I been going on sleeper berth while at customer getting loaded 2-4 hours detention just so that I can split the clock on sleeper berth and that way it extends my 14hour clock. Meaning I have driving time still buy 14 hours are at zero if I am driving it will show as negative time alarms will go off and red letters will pop up but it can be satisfied with the other rest break provided that if both added it comes out to 10 hours break. Someone told me to only stay ON DUTY if you are on the dock by the rear of your trailer observing while they load otherwise sleeper berth while in truck to use this benefit. What do you think does it sound right? I mean no violations yet.

Flatbed drivers would typically be on duty the whole time you’re getting loaded as well as while you’re securing the load. And then you’re also supposed to stop and do a load check I believe every 3 hours or every 200 miles, but don’t quote me on that, I haven’t did flatbed in over a year .

You made one slight error, you can work as many hours as you want to, you just cannot drive after you have been working for 14 hours. Your company might have a different policy but legally you can work 20 hours if you want to as long as the last six hours of the shift there was no driving.

@mikestruckinwithbigdaddy5233
If your on a 10 hour break, the trick I use is, what ever time you shut down, minus 2 hours from that, and that’s what time your break will be over the next day, if you shut down at 8pm , minus 2 hours, that’s 6, your break will be over at 6am the next morning

What if I drove my 11 hours + 30 min break + 15 min PTI, do I have to wait 2:15 until my shift ends? Or I can take my 10 hours SB, to get another 11 driving hours?
@mikestruckinwithbigdaddy5233
@mikestruckinwithbigdaddy5233 2 года назад
You can end your shift at anytime, you’re not required to finish the whole time, and after 10 hours of being off duty, or sleeper birth, you’re clock will refresh, 34 hours off duty or sleeper birth will refresh all clocks, and depending on who you drive for, they may allow you to do a split sleeper, I don’t do that tho, because I like my full rest and I still don’t completely know how to do it lol

So let’s say I drive and stop and go on SB with hours left on drive and the 14hr goes down. Even while it’s counting down but I’m on SB, will it restart clock regardless after 10 or if I stop and clocks running down from 3hrs (14hr clock)do I have to wait for the 3 hours to go down for the 10hr break to start?
@trustin752
@trustin752 Год назад
My trainer didn’t show me anything about clock management. Had me drive then after like 5hrs go on sleeper birth until whenever the next day/night and just did the month. Only said “watch your clocks”. Without mention that 14hr clock plays a big role
@mikestruckinwithbigdaddy5233
@@trustin752 your 14 hr clock should stop after being in SB for 2 hours, but it’ll reset after a 10hr break, some company’s may let you run a 8/2 split or a 7/3 split, if that’s the case, after 7 hours, you’ll get back those 3 hours left that you didn’t drive, and then you’ll have to take a 3 hour break (remainder of the 10 hour break since you already took a 7 hour break) to get the remainder of your full drive time back, it can get complicated, so I’d definitely recommend just getting a full 10 hour break before you start trying to figure out the split breaks, hope this helps

Good explanation, but you're wrong on 1 thing. Your break clock won't move because on duty time can be used now as a break. It doesn't change until you drive. That's how it used to be.

So does this apply to deliveries drivers too. Hope I don’t sound stupid.
@mikestruckinwithbigdaddy5233
If the company is running under DOT Rules & Regulations than it does, but some companies run non CDL, possibly delivering their own materials, or running under a certain mileage

Am I understanding that right, even if I log off duty at the shipper and receiver loading or unloading, my 14 shift time still decrease even if I’m log off duty??

That’s correct, once you start your clock for the day, your 14 hour clock doesn’t stop once it’s started

That is only true if you take less than 2 hours off at a time and do not use split-sleeper birth.

I just heard from someone that if you take a nap for over 2 hours it will restart your 14 hours? I guess its a new rule??
@Bendigo1
@Bendigo1 2 года назад
The 2 hours does not reset your 14. The 2 hours is only part of a split-sleeper break, essentially breaking a 10 hour break into 2 separate breaks. You can take 2 or 3 hours off duty and it will pause your 14. Then before running out of dot time, you need to do 7 to 8 hours in sleeper to complete the split. The short break has to be AT LEAST 2 hours and the sleeper time plus the short break has to equal at leat 10 hours. But you will only gain the time left after you subtract the time between the end of the first and beginning of the second break. It can be confusing, but if you want to learn about it, look up split sleeper rule.

Do owner operators have to use these hours of service schedules?
@mikestruckinwithbigdaddy5233
Short answer is yes, there are stipulations that would make a driver exempt, but if your driving more than 150 mile radius from your city than these hours of service apply to you weather your a company driver, lease operator, owner operator, or coach bus driver.

What do you do when your 14 hour clock is negative

Take a 10 and it'll reset, but you'll also have a log violation as well

One of the top things I hate about truck driving is the clock. Personally it's a stupid concept. I want to just drive and accumulate miles. If i start getting tired I will get sleep. At least 6 hours.
