Wow! What a podcast, but the double knitting did leave me speechless 😶 and I thought I knew how to knit. With your podcast I have seen knitting in a different perspective and there is so much to learn. The answer that Andrea gave on the substituting of yarns, it is definitely an eye opener. Thank you both. ❤️🇨🇴

Informative episode. I wanted a lamb for years as a young child, but Santa was too wise and saw that a suburban house could not raise a lamb to an ewe. Double knitting is now on my to- learn challenges in my self discover path in knitting.

Your podcasts are really high-quality magazine-standard. There is so much work behind it all, what with the ideas, and the actual production. I must say that the Alasdair Post-Quinn section went right above my head, but it's magical to witness what some talented people are able to create. Happy 50th to Andrea, what strange times to celebrate a major milestone, but at least you'll remember the cigars! Looking forward to the next episode xx

Honestly, what I would most love to see is your yarn stash... I've got all my yarn in transparent boxes, sorted and shelved and I love seeing how other people store their fibres and what they have... many people I know have one or two balls of yarn that they've had for ages and never used because they're just too pretty or have certain memories attached to them... so yeah, I'd love to see that!

What a fabulous birthday present, Andrew. It reminded me of a family story when my brother went to my Great Aunt’s house one day - a fun, spirited, petite woman from a rather wealthy and refined New England family - and she answered the door with a cigar in hand and said, “Come onin, I’m just watching the boxing matches!”

Another fantastic episode! Grist. That’s the magic word in yarn substitution. Yards per pound or meters per kilo. My niggling little problem is in measuring length. It can really be affected by the amount of tension it’s under while being measured. When is a meter not a meter? The second time I measure the same piece of yarn. 🤔

I just noticed the Toft birds in the background :) and remembered Andrea talking about their floppy heads. I have since made my first two birds, and remembering Andrea's comment, I stuffed the neck of my heron - and it worked! You cannot see the stuffing, the bird sits with the head up, and there are no dangerous wires inside.

Andrea stuffed the necks of ours too. I suspect it's the amount of stuffing which could help. What is clear is that they are two very cheeky birds.

You are companions during my late night knitting sessions. It is a treat when a new episode roles along. I appreciated the exposition on flints. I love Norfolk's north coast and all the delicious flint structures. Flint and Silica are interchangeable terms for the glassmaker component essential to all ceramic glazes. I don't know if the flint is ground up flints, with the silica being ground up sand, but I like to think so. Andrea, I appreciated your analysis of the Marie Wallin sweater pattern and your detailed description of ways you are dealing with accommodating the off kilter profile. I did wonder if washing and blocking would have relaxed the slipped stitch pattern and expanded the portion above the colorwork section. Thanks you two for a truly soothing gift to all us fans during this weird time. I have his first book on my shelf and have made one long scarf from a free pattern on ravelry. I made it in yarn that's probably too heavy, but he's totally right about doing a long project to really get the hang of it. I'm happy to leave it in my closet just to see it and know I did it! Lisa R Patreon, , This is an amazing double knit designer , but I think if you want to get a totally different style ( ie fair isle -seque) classic perhaps to appeal to even more knitters who’d like to try - I can highly recommend Lucy Neatby. She’s published books , patterns , made many video classes over the years . She’s quite a n interesting person , for certain . I’ve had the pleasure of taking her classes several times . Excellent teacher , has patterns that are more approachable for newbies . Her background is in Canadian Fishing originally. It a great technique, . I wonder if I’d have felt a bit overwhelmed with these designs being so advanced ..’. Just my thinking out loud - lol ! Very impressive segment , thank you :)

I had made a jumper that had the same kind of accordion pulling, I ripped back and where the troughs are I went up a from 3.0 to 4.25 I believe, it worked great. Just have to remember to change needles where needed. It blocked beautifully, and still had the beautiful texture. The gauge was a tad different but not enough to really notice. I have it as a gift.

I happened on double knitting quite accidentally a few years ago while trying to find a way of creating a fairly subtle pocket. Somehow, I ended up finding a double knitting technique (1 color) for that in my mom’s “Principles of Knitting” [June Hemmons Hiatt]. It was so fascinating to me that I’ve graduated to 2-color and lots of other experimentation, including the dumb but fun sock in a sock. As astonishing as it is to pull out the second sock, only a knitter really understands that it’s kind of magical, or at least challenging, so it’s hardly worth all the effort for a 10-second bit of surprise at the end. IMO. But double knitting is a really worthwhile challenge. And “Principles of Knitting” is a wonderful book. I finally bought my own copy.

Without seeing the actual written pattern, and just viewing the picture of the jumper, I was under the impression that the garment was to be knit in the Raglan method. As different stitching methods ie. cables or ribbing, I would make intentional swatches with those specific stitches to to know how the would measure and where I would need to make increases or decreases before that desired stitch section starts. I am very fond of the ease of the Raglan style starting the neck through the yoke, securing the live stitches of the yarn on spare contrasting yarn, finishing the body. recapturing the stitches to the sleeves. if you find you are running low on yarn, you can adjust the sleeve length t 3/4 or short I think I might design and create a Raglan jumper with a Fair Isle stitch for the borders and a an interesting texture for the body

The sound of those lambs eating the milk at the end there, I just love it! Thank you for yet another great show, I just love you guys. A perfect mix between information, "hygge", inspiration and fun. And happy birthday to you Andrea, you look just stunning! I've been trying to think of a clever question, but the only thing that keeps popping up is how you came up with the name "Fruity knitting". Also, I'm really curious as to how the rest of your place looks, maybe you could show us how you live. Interior decorating, gardening and knitting are my top three hobbies. With knitting on top, or rather 50 % knitting, 25 % crocheting and 25 % sewing :) Until next time, stay safe and take care!

Happy 50th Birthday Andrea! Glad you were still able to celebrate albeit different to your original plans. I too am turning 50 in August this year, and expect that my birthday may be different to the original plans. By the way you look fantastic for your age - must be all the knitting!! ;) Health and happiness to you.

mr. Quinn is indeed an accomplished knit designer. I do not know much about double knitting but looks complex and a lot of focus.
