This exciting program features two restored PRR steam locomotives, Class E7 4-4-2 7002 and Class D D-16sb 4-4-0 are presented heading three outings sponsored by the Strasburg Railroad. Both of these fine engines have recently been withdrawn from service, and this documentary is a lasting tribute to these historic and elegant locomotives. Full color with stereo sound.
Highlights include:
-Historical description of PRR 4-4-2 7002.
-Full Coverage of two doubleheaded excursions from Strasburg, Pa to Harrisburg and return, plus a round trip from Strasburg to Philadelphia. Trackside and pacing scenes are included.
-Scenic locations include Rockville Bridge, Gap, Villanova, Thorndale and Strasburg Railroad

It's a shame that the 1223 and 7002 aren't able to run anymore, at least there is high quality footage of them still in excursion service! Even though I already own the Berkshire Productions 'Steam Still Stands' I might still buy this in the future!

Several reasons that won’t happen: 1) neither 475 or 90 have cab signals, which are necessary to lead on the Keystone corridor and money to install. The 7002 had those already installed by PRR. 2) Strasburg no longer has the steel coaches that had operate on the mainline. Amtrak won’t allow a trip with wooden coaches. 3) biggest reason, insurance costs. It’s near impossible to operate mainline excursions due to the cost of insurance needed. Amtrak pulled all support for mainline excursion trips in 2018, and Strasburg is not interested to make it happen. 4) also as both 475 and 90 have 56” drivers, neither engine is really suited for mainline speeds.

​@@tomyrail7468 not only that the only reason that trip was even able to be made was because it was 1988 meaning Barley any amtrack trains ran acutely a Hella alote more freight ran so they were able too fit that train in no problem. Thoug at one point they got frustrated at a single cuz they changed it up on them it's on RU-vid somewhere.

Those 80in drivers on 7002 were built for speed, 1223 even with her 68in drivers was also able to keep up since both namely 7002 tackled passenger service at one point. 90 and 475 are freight built engines so they don't like to go fast and even 80 would probably be beyond their limits, you could get away with 89 but again no cabs so nope.

Both exited service in 1989 due to major repairs needed. Strasburg would acquire 475 to replace them.

These engines were deemed “unsafe” due to the type of fireboxes they had, and Strasburg didn’t want to modify them.

@@cdangelo1843 Strasburg was willing to rebuild them, but the RR Museum of PA didn't want them to be altered from their original condition.

Cdeangelo, how would they have been altered? I don't know if 7002 is in its original condition but 1223 ran on Strsburg from 1960 to 1989 in addition to its PRR career so 1223 should still be able to run. However the RR Museum Of Pennsylvania has a stranglehold on it
