Hi Mitch, another great video. Do you only activy invest in Trading212 ISA now & not in Vanguard ISA? How do you personally manage two ISA's at the same time. Would love to see a video on that!

Started my portfolio last year with SCHD, VOO, and VUG after watching one of your videos. In terms of share price, VOO is way up (22.25%) and VUG is waaaaay up (39.62%). Thanks for the education!
@FabioOdelega876

Isn't VOO and VUG similar in the sense both are investing in the S&P 500? What is the difference? I thought it is generally advised against to invest in multiple ETFs or Mutual Funds?
@eloign7147
@eloign7147 6 месяцев назад
There is 55% overlap with the holdings in VOO and VUG. 1 is tech heavy and the other is financials heavy similar, but not the same. VOO tracks the S&P 500; VUG is just focused on large cap growth stocks. VUG is a bit more volatile, but with a higher upside potential. VOO is a bit safer. I’ve never heard anyone advise against multiple ETFs/mutual funds. You just have to be aware of overlap. You don't have to act on every forecast, so I'll suggest that you work with a financial advisor who can help you choose the best times to purchase and sell the shares or ETFs you want to acquire.
@joshbarney114

I agree, that's the more reason I prefer my day to day investment decisions being guided by an advisor, seeing that their entire skillset is built around going long and short at the same time both employing risk for its asymmetrical upside and laying off risk as a hedge against the inevitable downward turns, coupled with the exclusive information/analysis they have, it's near impossible to not out-perform, been using my advisor for over 2years+ and I've netted over 2.8million.

I appreciate the implementation of ideas and strategies that result to unmeasurable progress. Being heavily liquid, I'd rather not reinvent the wheel, thus the search for a reputable advisor, mind sharing info of this person guiding you please?

Finding financial advisors like Colleen Janie Towe who can assist you shape your portfolio would be a very creative option. There will be difficult times ahead, and prudent personal money management will be essential to navigating them.

Don't blame you for not wanting to invest in UK stocks!
@CaldonianDude

Perhaps a mistake as most companies in the FT-100 are actually global companies - a lot of their income comes from overseas. While UK is very much going down the toilet long term, the big FT-100 companies will do OK, especially as the pound declines. FT-100 also recently hit an all-time high, plus the index is less overvalued than the S&P500. I have several funds, but FT-100 is always one of the smaller, but still key components.

Consider Nintendo. The low JPY gives you good value for your GBP and the company holds a lot of intellectual property that could pop off like Marvel - especially considering the 'passion born of nostalgia' factor these IP's have with a with a wide age range. Then the Switch 2 is coming yada yada...

In these uncertain times, it's more important than ever to have a solid understanding of how to manage your finances, invest wisely and navigate economic downturns. But my primary concern is how to grow my reserve of $240k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains, sure I'm all in on the long term game, but with my savings are lying waste to inflation and my portfolio losing gains everyday, I need a remedy.

With balancing your portfolio would you not just be best to just DCA across everything you invest in?
@MitchShoesmith
@MitchShoesmith 6 месяцев назад
Yes and no, logically makes sense but because the gains are different across the board the allocation changes all the time. E.g my AMD position has recently soared to 14% of my allocation whilst Tesla has dropped from about 18% to 9% and is now my second smallest position just from changes in share price alone.

@MitchShoesmith
@MitchShoesmith 6 месяцев назад
Hey Emma, because AMD stock has gained proportionately more than my other positions my overall weighting in the portfolio for AMD has increased, essentially by selling some shares I would reduce my allocation (taking some profit too) and redistribute funds to other investments to keep things “balanced”. Hope that makes sense! Happy to answer any questions ☺️

While I am not in any way a sage, its important not to put to much emphasis on current values and think they can climb indefinetly. As a very quick example the gain in dollars on the S&P 500 over the last 25 months is 2.5%

Hey Mitch another great video ! I wanted to know how much do you think you will need to live off your portfolio in terms of dividends for just investing into the S&P 500 and not dividend stocks ?
@MitchShoesmith
@MitchShoesmith 6 месяцев назад
Hey, the plan would be not to solely live off the dividend income, but also drawdown on the capital gains too. It’s hard to say what I’ll need in 20/25 years from now, but you can use something called the Rule of 4% which can help decipher what portfolio size you need to live on.
@UNKNOWN-1589
@UNKNOWN-1589 6 месяцев назад
@@MitchShoesmith how does the rule of 4% work my brother ? If you don’t mind me asking ?
@MitchShoesmith
@MitchShoesmith 6 месяцев назад
@@UNKNOWN-1589 if you do your future portfolio value and multiply it by 4%, that’s the typical rule of thumb for how much you could withdraw from your portfolio without it losing value. E.g. a £1,000,000 portfolio x 4% withdrawal rate = £40,000 per year to live off.

@MitchShoesmith
@MitchShoesmith 6 месяцев назад
Great that you’ve got £300k to invest, my dividend income is fairly small, the only yields I have are from the S&P500 which only as a current yield of 1.23% and Apple with a yield of 0.5%. It works out roughly about £50 a quarter based on my current portfolio. You’d be better off looking at higher yield dividend paying stocks if you want more in dividends

Hey mitch quick Q. i see you have large shares in S&P 500 index but also individual stocks in amazon tesla etc. how does that benefit your portfolio if those individual stocks are already in the s&p 500? Im new to this lol. Wouldn’t have been easier if just upped your shares in s&p funds
@MitchShoesmith
@MitchShoesmith 6 месяцев назад
Hey, it’s a fair question, the S&P500 is a weighted index so it is more weighted towards the like of Amazon, Apple etc… but individually if we take Apple for example, it probably only has about a 7 or 8% weighting in the S&P500, so the proportionate exposure is far lower than me buying individual shares and having 100% exposure. The aim being those individual stocks hopefully outperform the index (and therefore the other 490+ other companies) that I hold within the index. Hope I’ve explained that ok!
