It's really true, from my experience what gives anxiety the fuel is engaging with the unwanted thoughts. Acceptance is when you stop giving the thoughts attention and let them just be there but not engage with them, it takes time but reminding myself to just leave them alone helps every time.

The repetitive, negative aspect of rumination can contribute to the development of depression or anxiety and can worsen existing conditions.

I've always felt that anxiety is not just an uneasy feeling from the lack of control of one's environment, but also a lack of understanding of factors around you and the social and situational context that one finds themselves in. My anxiety mostly tended to be about my lack of understanding if context and the fear of the repercussions of such. I learned that no one operates off of perfect knowledge all the time and to calmly operate with limited information

Interesting but I feel like it’s the opposite for me. I feel like my anxiety comes from being hyperaware of my situation and the people around me. Just desperately not wanting to never inconvenience anyone but constantly finding myself in situations where no matter what I do, I know someone is going to get inconvenienced so I end up freezing up and just not doing anything.

It took me a long time to overcome my relationship anxiety with my now fiancé. Eventually, being with him became the constant, the normal, the expectation. I'm not anxious about him leaving any more than I am about the ground cracking open beneath me or my toes falling off. The idea is scary, but it's very unlikely to actually happen. Now the scariest thing is one of us dying, but its a little easier to accept that I can't control that.

Does anyone know if Dr. K has any material on shame based splitting? My girlfriend does this and I can't tell if she's a narcissist or if it's something different. It comes off as vulnerable narcissism. She can only temporarily acknowledge something bad that she has done and then she reverses it on me. She does not know what a genuine apology would look like if it hit her in the face. I am currently planning on having her fill out some sincere apology worksheets that she can give to me. I am hoping it goes well so she can cultivate the skill for herself. I am frustrated over this and I would appreciate any and all help.

This is accurate. I have turned my home in to my safe haven where I can control the amount of sensory stimuli I’m exposed to - be it visual, audio or social etc. I do the opposite with relationships though. If I’m anxious that someone is going to leave me - be it a partner, friend or other - I will just reduce my contact and quietly fade out of their life because I hate making anyone feel awkward or uncomfortable and don’t want to put them through having to tell me directly or feeling bad for leaving me. I don’t blame anyone for wanting to discontinue contact. Feel oddly suspicious/ doubtful when someone wants to be in my life. I guess you could say I’m controlling my anxiety that way because if I leave, I do t have to be afraid of them leaving me any more. I can see how a minimal life is appealing… fewer things to worry about losing!

We even had someone showing up in our living room at 4 am and it was the one with dementia who opened the door to let he/she in, and the one with dementia doesn't remember why he/she is in our house. The one with dementia is taking meds but they're really not helpful. Ofc symtoms of dementia continues. I can't see how we can solve it as long as the patient still lives with us, but dementia facilities are quite lacking and often treat patients badly.

So I'm in the middle of a divorce. Watching this video does give me slight pause. How can you tell the difference between a covert narcissist who's manipulative and controlling and stressed out and somebody that's just stressed out? What if their control techniques include abusive language put downs and harassment? We tried marriage counseling and I couldn't get a word in edgewise and when the therapist would finally force my wife to stop talking I was too afraid to say anything negative about my wife in front of her. And when I did squeak out a sentence or two she would just harass me with it repeating my criticisms and explaining why I'm wrong.
@steggopotamus

Right, so learning to reframe a break up is very important. Like for me, I have a personal saying that the only failed relationship is one where you have to lie to keep it going. Like when you're just not as good for each other anymore but you lie to yourself to pretend it's still good. Or you lie about how much your partner hits you to your friends. Or you lie about how much you both fight. Or you have to lie about how much you go through their phone because you can't bring yourself to trust them. Or similarly, you lie about trusting them when you constantly go through their phone. So, a successful relationship is one where you don't have to lie about anything to look like you have the relationship you have. "Yeah, we were so good at first, but once he started the career he wanted we started fighting constantly because it got in the way of the life I wanted, we couldn't make it work, so we broke up and we're still great friends" os a successful relationship in my estimation. The things you feel pride over are the fact you didn't stay in a volitile situation. You tried to make it work and didn't just give up, but you also recognized when something was an irreconcilable difference. You maintained respect for the perso. You once romantically loved. You preserved the parts that were still good with friendship. I was always a little like this though, so it wasn't a big stretch for me, for me my biggest fear has always been lopsided/dishonest relationships. But I still needed the reframing to help me not stay in a relationship "because I should" rather than because I wanted to.

@noxfelis5333 Год назад
@@cleopatrajones7096 I honestly meaby jumped a bit too fast too conclusion when i read your first post as i don't know you personaly nor all the details of your own struggles. I am not afaik trying to define OCD, but those things shure sounds like it should apply. Anxiety can be trauma related, for example lets say every lunchbreak at school when there is chicken soup, a fat bully, lets name him Bob, always harrasses you and steals your lunch. Now everytime there is chicken soup at school, you try to find a way out, but you just can't, and now the anxiety rises because you just can't run away and you just know Bob is gona come for you and your food, notice that there you already knew the future, but you where helpless and couldn't stop it from happening, somewhere a wish for control is there, so that you can have your peacefull lunch. Now lets say later in life, everytime there is the smell of chicken, or you see chicken, you get this huge fear but you don't remember why, now you are smart and you notice that there is absolutly no reason to be afraid, but still you feel that immence fear, so you try to control it so you behave like a normal person, and that is when the anxiety starts to hit you. Anxiety is rooted in many different feelings, and one of them is fear and also as mentioned it comes in anticipation of something that might be bad.

Worrying/stressing over real life problems doesn't seem like true anxiety to me. For me, anxiety is an inexplicable, irrational sense of impending of doom or health-related panic, high alertness and muscle tension, fast heart rate, angina pectoris, possible panic attacks. The other thing is just worrying/stressing lol, comparably mild.

Greetings, just a thought. If that worrying/stressing real life problems turns into avoidance and can even lead into isolation, can you still not call it anxiety? Chronic anxiety is a thing. On a good day you just worry over problems, the other days health related symptoms appears. Adrenaline courses through the blood vessels, bpm reaches upto 130, hyperventilation sometimes even not breathing at all, tingling and chills (particularly at the extreme ends of your limbs), cold hands and feet while your head and abdomen feels like it's on fire, trembling and sweating, feeling lightheaded, dizzy, having nausea, your heartbeat is so loud that you can hear it even with loud noises around you, muscles that are so tense that cramps are another form of hell. Angina pectoris comes and goes whenever there's a stressful event happening, maybe it's because of stressing over a real life problem that may be resolved in time or just a very inexplicable, irrational sense of impending doom of maybe "Oh shit! I'm having a heart attack. I'm gonna fucking die! Oh well, I deserve to die anyway." 1/10 won't recommend, the mental everyday anguish isn't worth it. Your anxiety over real life problems can build up and turn to chronic anxiety. If you feel like it's starting to feel like it's too much, consult a medical professional, preferably a clinical psychologist, if needed a psychiatrist. As for me, I'm gonna suffer a bit more till i have enough money for one, for now i find that writing my thoughts help ease my mind, not a lot but hey, it's better than being depressed again. Did i forgot to mention anxiety can lead to depression and such? I was gonna say more but i forgot. I apologise OP for trauma dumping, but i feel like i need to express my thoughts and feelings. Salutations.

Omg this was so relatable.. this is literally 1:1 how I’ve felt for so long. I had no idea it was an anxiety thing. Is there a longer video or vod on this does anyone know? Would really help me rn to know more about this.

disagree - you can control anyone, you just need the right skills. most people have anxiety bc they’re not smart enough to control another person or they messed up an interaction making control much harder

So what you are saying is that the reason why you can't control my response is because you lack of skills? Damn you must be realy unskilled then! Sounds like you are quite a manipulative person, the kind I and many others wish not to have in their life.

No you can't, you have only limited influence, dictated mostly by the information you possess and circumstances. Sometimes that is enough to manipulate someone to a direction you want them to go, but, sooner or later, it will backfire. You are no God.

If that is the case, explain why you aren't busy ruling the world instead of posting here. Yeah, thought so.

You will never ever conquer your anxiety until you accept suffering is a part of life. And it is much better to choose your suffering. Go to the gym. Dont give in to cravings. Stay off of the phone. It sounds counterintuitive but you need to do things you do not want to do.

i do try to control the things in my life to due anxiety, but i do not “try” to “control” them, i just avoid anything that scares me. i lose friends because i’m afraid of what will happen when i interact with them, when they interact with me. i avoid the negatives by also eliminating all the positives. i have found comfort in this, i am okay being a loner, but i feel the need to think this is a problem. and that i should work on it. i don’t know.

If you feel content and happy being a loner then I don't see a reason to stop being one. What I just said was probably useless but I decided to write it anyways so hopefully I didn't waste your time.
