Manning always was too quick to judge people, especially parents. For anyone who wants to know what happened, the mother was in a car accident whilst pregnant, the baby was injured at the time but thought to make a full recovery, except even rolling over in the crib could have ruptured the hematoma. The mother didn't abuse the child, manning just didn't get a full history or even check with the baby's pediatrician before calling dcfs.

Dr Manning is so judgmental. Shaken Baby Syndrome is often accidental from parents who truly love their children and just forget themselves while being overly stressed, it's the reason they are so happy to take their children to the hospital. As well as that, like in this case, Doctor's often jump to SBS rather than actually exploring all options because it's an easy diagnosis
@rachelcookie321
@rachelcookie321 2 года назад
I want to point out that usually it’s pretty hard for a baby to get shaken baby syndrome. They have to be like proper violently shaked for it to happen so it’s not like it just accidentally happens while playing. Usually babies get it when parents leave the baby with a family member or a carer that they think they can trust but turns out they can’t.
@MRichi-1994

Shaken baby syndrome requires violent shaking, so yes it is outcome of abuse.
@Presnix324
@Presnix324 2 года назад
I think a large part of it too is a lack of education about it. I didn't know about SBS until I watched a youtube video about it (I'm not a parent though). How many parents/family members don't realise how fragile babies are and that shaking them can do irreversable damage
@miaedwards5543
@miaedwards5543 Год назад
It’s often parents who are overtired/stressed and it’s usually just a split moment of rage. It’s not an excuse at all hurting a child is the worst of the worst, but that’s often how it happens and it’s a shame bc the consequences are irreversible

It's a doctors job if they suspect abuse to report it. But, that's not what bother me. Before we even know what's wrong Manning is having a gossiping convo with the mom judging her on her age, smoking, and her baby daddy. The mother isn't her patient but Manning should have tried to be unbias in the least build a bit of report to be able to her more open to answer questions like history and other stuff about her actual patient the baby. Her conduct with the mother is t what is getting ppl so mad. A doctor should not get tunnel vision and the fact she's so judgemental so quickly makes me wonder why she works so closely with patients. @@finnsnow2495 I definitely agree that her communication skills could use some work, she is known for upsetting/angering people in the hospital. Initially I was referring to a lot of the original, unedited comments I was seeing about her just assuming it was abuse because I can understand why she reported it straight away (she may have believed the child was in danger). It would be better is she could build more of a relationship as patients would open up more and you may discover it’s not what it first looks like but as she didn’t I do understand her reporting it. That’s just what I originally meant.

i'm only 2 min in and excuse me, the mother did not have to apologise for snapping at Dr Manning. she had every right. people come to doctors for help, not to be judged and feel bad about ourselves. at least wait until you have all the facts before making assumptions about if someone is a bad parent or not.

For anyone who doesn't know what Shaken Baby Syndrome - Shaken Baby Syndrome (also known as Shaken Impact Syndrome) is a form of abuse inflicted upon a child. It usually occurs when a parent or other caregiver shakes a baby out of anger or frustration, often because the baby will not stop crying.
@Ikajo
@Ikajo 3 года назад
It also has been contested as an actual diagnosis as the injuries could be something else

@@thoraneh7365 It refers to the symptoms that manifest as a result of the baby being shaken, not the act of shaking itself.

Researchers are looking into possible links between early brain injury to the cerebellum and the development of schizophrenia. SBS injures the back of the brain, too, and not just the frontal lobes. Probably not a good idea to smack your kid's head nor face either, if there's something to the idea that physical injury to the cerebellum develops into a neurodevelopmental disorder we call schizophrenia. Did you know autism and mood disorders are linked to the cerebellum, too Ongoing scientific research is awesome. More funding to education and pure investigate research is needed

She is not wrong at all. There is a impossibly low chance of SBS being caused by a car crash during pregnancy. On the other hand, child abuse is very common and should be reported as soon as possible if suspected. Everyone here seems to be an arm chair lawyer, doctor, mother,social worker etc. calm down children.

Dr Manning is too quick to judge but not because she thinks she's too perfect or always right, it's her instinct to always protect those that can't protect themselves,...I think it hurts her more when she thinks of a mother who can hurt her own child she's a damb good doctor though

I have become addicted to these clips. This show however is not written well nor are the characters well developed. If you compare this show to House, New Amsterdam or even The Good Doctor. This show is like a soap opera.

Doctor Manning was in the right to report it, it’s a Safeguarding practice that’s required. If you suspect, you report. However, she should’ve looked into every possible cause as to why it could’ve happened.

I don't watch this show but I watched quite a few clips and Manning has horrible bedside manner with most of her patients. Like what doctor starts off the way she did with a mother who was just all shaken up by her sick baby. She went outside to smoke that could have been a one off thing because of the stress but instead she gives the most condesending look and then lectures about second hand smoke. I know the baby is her patient but the mother is almost a second hand one when all info will come from her. How could you get accurate patient history or build report when you start off like that. And then she's like " would you like me to call the father" and she said it very snoopy like she was fishing for info and then the way she said " you don't know the father!". Like this isn't your sister Manning you can't just judge and act like a confessing jackass to these people. Even when Manning is right about people being neglectful or stuff she usually goes about it in the worst way like with the malnourished boy in one of these clips. The reason I don't watch the show is honestly because she annoys me so much idk if it's just these particular clips but they don't paint her in a good light

Dr Manning finds out that the mother was in a car accident while she was pregnant which caused the baby's injuries. The baby's brain injuries healed but any sort of movement like rolling in a cot could have caused the hematoma. Then Dr Manning tells Goodwin what she found out and they have to sort it out with the DYFS. The mother is not happy but I'm pretty sure the baby is ok in the end, but she might have seizures for life or something.
