Purchased a DR power trimmer mower pro to take down all the weeds that are dominating my property. I'll do a review on how well it does.

Thanks for the video Pete! I just snagged a used one for $50 since I've got 4 acres of abandoned field/yard to tame before I go and buy a rider. And thanks for keeping the info accessable to even us women out here living the dream! Upstate NY near Lake Champlaign and the Adirondacks.❤❤❤

I've had a DR for many years. Tip: since it throws cut material to the right, if you make runs with uncut material to your left it works much better.

Hi Pete! The DR trimmer is excellent. I recently showed the TroyBilt one. These machines are amazing to take care of what a normal trimmer just cannot withstand or where the brush hog cannot get too.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I'd be curious to see how it performs with the other blade options. I have a area that's full of stumps that makes mowing impossible. Also becoming overgrown with small saplings.

Hello Pete!!!! Nice to see you again, GOD bless you and your family and many thanks for sharing your videos. My son is interested in this mower and he is in town picking it up today. He just purchased 80 acres in south Texas close to me. He and his family, plus his in laws left the city life. Lots of brush to mow and clean up of the private country roads on his property that are overgrown from the rains we had. This machine is a monster! Lol

Awesome 80 acres is a nice amount of land. He will definitely have to have a tractor with a brush hog implement and use the trimmer mower for the tight spots.

Terrific! I just decided today I was getting one, the same model actually. We have right at 5 acres in Arkansas. Very humid and hot summers. I have a pacemaker implanted so swinging that gas weed eater around kind gets to me now. I think, especially after watching your video, that I made the right choice. Thanks for posting this video.

Great review. I bought this same mower/trimmer last year. Love it, it's a powerful machine though! Tried to use it to weed eat around my storage building, it busted right through the PVC conduit! It's a little cumbersome to maneuver in uneven and rocky terrain but other than that it's well worth the money. I bought the beaver blade but haven't used it yet.

Thanks for the video. Must be a struggle to keep the vegetation at bay in a humid, subtropical climate. Gives me a bit of appreciation for the arid high desert here in the Northern Rockies. We have an old Sears high wheel trimmer that knocks down the occasional foxtail and thread-grass.

I have this same model. Used it for 2 years now. The first year it did great on our 10 acre property with a large pond, a creek, and a pasture. The 2nd year...not so great. The belt started slipping quite a bit and the battery for the battery start died. I will say it starts up with one pull every time. Do not..and I repeat, do not get the blade attachments. The instructions are missing essential information on how to install and remove and the kit was missing the main bolt that holds the head in place. A call to DR that lasted nearly an hour finally got that bolt identified (their instructions did not match mine, and my parts list didn't even show the bolt) and mailed to me. After install, the blades were virtually indistinguishable from the string. They could cut through small 1/2' trees, but that was about it. Weeds would easily get wrapped around the head when using it. On top of that, it clearly puts a lot of stress on the belt as at one point, the belt actually smoked. Last, there is a design flaw in that weeds can get inside the head where it attaches to the underside of the frame and wrap around the turning shaft, causing more stress on the belt. I spent over an hour digging these weeds out of hole in the side of the head that is used to lock the head down from turning when putting on a different attachment. It is about 1/4" so you can imagine my frustration with this. Overall, I would select a different brand if I had to do it all over again.

I've had my Husqvarna trimmer mower for over 10 yrs. now. I am definitely not advertising it over the DR or many other high quality trimmer mowers on the market. The Husqvarna has since been discontinued anyway. What I am saying is, a good quality trimmer mower is a Godsend to anyone that lives in the country with a lot of grass covered area. I've used mine extensively along fence rows, along creek beds, and any place where the grass is too tall and too think to use a regular hand held trimmer or places a mower or tractor with a brush cutter can't get to.
@Brett235
@Brett235 11 месяцев назад
I have the same trimmer and it works well with heavy thick grass and weeds. I have a lot of roots where I use the trimmer and the wheels seem to get hung up on those roots. Other than that it works great. I would like to add that if you leave it stored for any length of time you will want to put treated gasoline in it or it will not start when you want it to.
@bcarney56
@bcarney56 Год назад
that bush around 7:00 there looked like multi flora rose, with the come-along thorn that hooks you and makes you come along with it ! I think one thing that gets forgotten about is, the first time you use it you're going to have those bigger bushes that the trimmer won't handle well but when you mow it a second time, they will be smaller and more tender and will cut easily, that is unless you wait like a year between mowings.

Hi Pete, I love my DR Trimmer, I have mobility issues so having a trimmer that I can push and not have to carry it great, I also upgraded to to the quick lock head, it makes installing line much easier with arthritic hands. One big plus to the quick lock head is that you can use the 225 Mil saw tooth line and even larger 255 Mil

A Stihl FS 240 bike handle trimmer with the brush knife would make easy work of that type of brush. I just cut 0.4 acres of those kinds of bushes mixed with 3 foot high grass in about 5 hours. Then switch out the cutter head for the string trimmer and cut miles of fence line. I've always thought about getting a string mower, but a powerful bike handle trimmer with the proper cutting head seems to be faster and more versatile.

Honestly, for it being a kind of string trimmer I was kinda impressed with how it essentially pushed it through the thick tall brush and it didn't really bog down. I would be frustrated however by the wheels and having to push it through rutty terrain or very bumpy terrain. I'm not sure if they have a less rigid wheel that might be able to smooth over some of those issues. As for your echo line trimmer, I'm not sure of the specs on it, but I know the Stihl FS-450 is used for things like farms and agricultural work. I have generally not had a problem using it in thick brush. It even cuts through some of the little more woodier brush, BUT NOT like the ones that broke your string. That would definitely require a bladed attachment. I know you are already capable on the farm tool scene, but have your tried some of the stronger line options for the ECHO. Lawn guys tend to use it. I found it: *Husqvarna Titanium Line* or the *Husqvarna TitaniumXPro Line* . Your weeds are NOT supposed to laugh at your with those LOL. You MAY be even able to try it out on your DR if your want, but it seems to handle the grass and softer shrubs well.

I have both woody vine, wild roses, brambles, huckleberry saplings, poison hemlock and you name it, if it grows in the Ohio Valley, I have to cut it down. So, because Im a petite, senior female its gotten out of hand along my fence rows and a couple pasture have 7' tall p. Hemlock. I appreciate the video. I bought a cheap Legend Force and the problem is that the trimmer head since too close to the engine which affects maneuvering it around the yard. I am probably going to return it. Some of the reviews said that the DR's string breaks or comes off easily and that the belt comes off. I'm wondering after having the machine for a while if you have had any issues? One last thing. The Legend Force which is really cheap has a nice long handle. Only problem with trimmer mowers in general is that they're way overpriced for what you get. I bought the "Pilot" model which is the cheapest one. The only thing I don't like is also the only thing that makes it the cheapest model. It doesn't have any clutch control so the strings are spinning all the time when the engine is running. Just an FYI, but I find it works best to go around the edge in a counter-clockwise direction. Just like a lawn mower, it ejects material to the right so you want to feed in material on the left with open space to the right.

I agree. Where I live in Deep East Texas on the south side of the lake, we call that yopon. And you can't let it get out of control. Put you a Bush Hog brand mower deck on that tractor and go to town on that stuff.

Brush hog mowers are great for large open areas but the trimmer mowers are good for tight areas that a brush hog can't go.

I just bought the dr trimmer mower pro. It says to soak the plastic string for 3 days. Why is that?
@petebeasttexashomesteading
@petebeasttexashomesteading 2 года назад
Yeah that was a little strange for me too, but it must moisten the plastic some how.

It to soften the trimmer line to bend it into the holes in the trimmer head without breaking and warping the lines at too much angle that supposed to be straight out towards the grass or weeds . I have a Bad Home Depot's Coleman powermate Weed eater high wheels trimmer mower and I'm a ordinary country guy fisherman and I used fishing lines slick spray and to cast out my fishing line farther away longer distance so I used Blakemore REAL magic line conditioner and it protects against UV sunlight rays and lubricate and it non-sticky . Some farmers used WD-40 Silicone spray on farm equipment blades so I used it as well. But my trimmer line mowers don't have enough power and it's head doesn't want to work . I love to buy a Rechargeable batteries DR. Trimmer line mower of 9 horsepower 4 cycle without adding oil and gas and without changing oil and filter . And I prefer power batteries start and propelled power since I have a long 4 acres forest properties hills of too many cedars trees so I need a Beaver Blades chainsaw attachment too . 14 " inches wide cutting instead of 12" inches wide cutting.

Sorry I meant to say I used Fishing lines spray and WD-40 Silicone spray on Trimmer lines and putting the lines in the bucket and soak a minute or just sprayed it on the mower head and lines . It does work. I buy Home Depot's.155 inches spiral blades star shape lines 300 yards orange color sometimes I can't buy orange lines so I buy blue /white star shape lines .

@@petebeasttexashomesteading It’s the same for every trimmer line from every brand. Store it away from the sun, soak it in water for a few days before using. Or store it in a bucket of water forever, it keeps the line strong and durable (less brittle)

No electric tools now that you have solar powered method?

I was looking into the electric string mowers but they were not that powerful.

Electric anything with that much area to take care of, won't even touch what a gas powered yard implements can do. You need 500 batteries ready to go for any lengthy use.
