You hit the nail on the head: the Companions keep the Doctor "grounded," morally speaking. Going all the way back to the very first story, the Doctor was an amoral loner only interested in self-preservation. There's an infamous scene where he's about to murder an injured caveman in cold blood because carrying him was slowing down their escape before his human Companion Ian grabs his arm and tersely asks, "What are you doing?" Not every era has emphasized it as much, but the Doctor became a heroic figure and only remains that way because of their connections to their friends.

In case you're now getting confused, there are (because of time travel) rare occasions when the current Doctor is able to team up with some of his previous incarnations. Fans always love that when it happens, because they rarely get on well with each other.

He's not insane. He's not sane. He's kinda in the middle. It's like a switch. Situations and consequences lead to how he behaves. Having lived that long, one can hardly keep sanity in check with all the devastation you go through. Even without a war, he'd be so broken because people die either way. But this video superbly shows how despite all that, he wants to be good.

One of the major themes of the 12th Doctor's arch was the question, 'Am I a good man?'. The Doctor is a hero, but he's far from a perfect one, he has flaws, he can be angry and brutal and sometimes he can go too far He is a great example of the saying that those who fight monsters must be careful they themselves do not become one.

I mean it's not really about a love story in general, it's just about people, you know. It's more like seeing everything turn to dust while he still continues going. And having to repeat that cycle with everyone he gets close to time and again is quite destructive.

He's an anti hero he's committed multiple genocides but saved every living thing in the universe multiple times he's even destroyed the universe and everything in it to restart it even destroyed worlds with innocent people to save others

Yes, that's Mark Gatiss. Him and Steven Moffat wrote Sherlock. Gatiss was a writer in Doctor Who, while Moffat was the showrunner for 5 seasons.

I wouldn't say favorite, Clara is one of my least favorite companions, but there's no denying the impact she has. She's the longest running companion in New Who and has influenced some very significant parts of the Doctor's arc, its no surprise she's such a presence in these videos.

There area couple of times with the tenth Doctor (second of new Who) which show why he should never travel alone. Even with the Ninth there are a couple of scenes, in particular with the return of the most iconic of classic enemies, its there. I won't say more than that for fear of spoilers should you decide to watch the program.

Seeing your reaction to Doctor Who fanmade reaction makes me giddy for some reason, huhu. As you can see, most of the videos you react involve the New Era (2005 until present). Thus, I highly recommend "Doctor Who | Universe", by 'The Confession Dial' where the editor balances both the Classics and the New ones. Plus, that video mostly towards light hearted moments. :D

You should do a Proper Doctor Who Reaction Video to Episodes. The Doctor needs to be told when to stop when he is fighting an enemy. The Doctor's stories are brilliant.

6:50 The irony missed here is that she's talking to the first Doctor before he became that very person - the bloke going around putting everything right. She knows that version of the Doctor, and she foreshadows to the First that that's his future, but he of course misses that.

These videos you're reacting to tend to be very heavily skewed to a certain part of the show haha Namely, the 12th Doctor and Clara. Probably personal preference of the creator. Maybe because that showrunner loved giving him (and 11 to a degree) big grandiose speeches that look good in a video. And because he's a fairly recent Doctor. The most recent stuff also looks the prettiest because the show is always getting fancier cameras and better effects. But it's only one bit of the show. These videos have pretty much ignored large segments of the new series. And the show is definitely a lot more than just big speeches done by the 12th Doctor. It's also not as sad and depressing as it seems. The most popular Doctor is probably the 10th Doctor. The guy with the brown hair, sideburns, pinstripe suit. Most popular romances between the Doctor and companion have probably been the Doctor/Rose and Doctor/Riversong. Most popular new series companions... Definitely Rose is one as the first companion. Donna. Jack. Amy and Rory and Riversong were popular too. All of the companions have fans though. Depends on the person. But yeah... You don't really get that from these videos. They don't really give too much credit to the whole era of the previous showrunner (who did the Ninth and Tenth Doctors). Nine is basically ignored, despite him having some really amazing moments. You would never know a companion like Rose was so popular. Because she barely appears in these videos. Even though she is part of some of the most iconic emotionally brutal scenes of the show. Martha is completely ignored as well and she has great moments. Donna also is ignored a lot, and she also had some very iconic gutwrenching moments. I don't think Jack has appeared at all really. Basically, these videos have mostly been a feature for 12. Sometimes 11. Occasionally 10. But they're not really an indicator of the new series as a whole :)

These video choices are giving a pretty skewed notion of what the show is like. For one thing, whoever is recommending them seems to have a predilection for this particular showrunner's vision, which is more like fantasy than the others. This one showrunner tends to give the Doctor grandiose speeches more than other showrunners. These videos focus on the particular emotions, that are not necessarily typical.

The problem I have with compilation videos like this is that it takes snippets and quotes out of context which means that people who aren't fans or have never seen the original storylines can't really understand what is going on based on these videos because you are missing so much vital context. I highly recommend taking the time to watch the episodes through to properly understand what is going on and the full context of these snippets that have been compiled together.
