FunFact: During the dark ages, it was believed that demons lived in the woods.

First.

"Did i mention that they're within the woods?" That line makes me laugh every time.

I think the main reason with the change of Ash's character is that Bruce Campbell over time especially after Evil Dead became more confident.

"This scene is so triggering and offensive, I LOVE IT!!!" Laughed so hard, I almost fell out of my chair.

"A buzz killer is worse than any actual killer." LMAO!!!

When i was a kid, I used to dress up in a fat suit and pretend i was Newman from Seinfeld. My dad found my fat suit and set it on fire. I cried for three days. Great video by the way!

i squealed when i saw this in my subscription feed, Evil Dead is my favorite trilogy besides Star Wars og trilogy, Bruce Campbell rules

Evil Dead is a solid 10/10 for me IMO!! Saw this on vhs back when I was still in school. Blew my mind!!

Incredible film. Evil Dead is arguably the greatest example of what you can do on a low budget. Raimi built the ED house. ED 2 has Christmas lights on it.

So Evil Dead 1 & 2 are actually one long movie: at the 20:40 mark when "The Evil" rushes towards Ash and he screams (this being the ending of ED1) if you start Evil Dead 2 at the scene where Ash is flying through the trees, getting tossed around and smacked by branches, ED2 picks up right where ED1 ended. Real fun super-cut!

Idc how I just found this channel. My favorite subject with a guy doing it old school. I could easily see Dr. Wolfula on TV introducing and giving facts on our favorite horror movies, similar to Svengouli, or even my man Joe Bob. Great content!

I remember that my teachers decided to show us this movie one time when I was like in 6th or 7th grade for some reason. It was somewhat edited from what I remember, but most of the stuff was left alone. I can't imagine a teacher showing this movie in this day and age to a group of 12 year olds without facing some jail time!

I didn't get to see the Evil Dead films until I was about fifteen but after hearing from friends about what happens in them I wanted to see them, and so I rented all three so we could have a marathon. Good times! I still think this movie is effective even though a little dated, however that doesn't ruin the movie or the experience for me, as it has a lot of strengths. A few years ago there was talk about releasing a cleaned up version of Within the Woods, and that it was going to be on a new release of The Evil Dead, but apparently it was cancelled at the last minute for some reason. But I do hope we eventually get to see that version of the movie.

The fake sleeping scene was a mirror to later in the film when Ash thought Linda was dead, but she kept waking up when his back was turned.

Oh the days of VHS and going to rent movies. I think I stumbled on this in 1991 and the local video rental store. After we watched this we rented Evil Dead 2 and it was just in time to see Army of Darkness in the theaters. I have turned my two sons (24 and 13) into huge Bruce Campbell and Evil Dead fans. We can't wait to the new series on Starz. Keep the up the good work.

Hope you won't mind if I interject one other act into the backstory, Dr. W; the Cannes Film Festival were Stephen King saw Evil Dead and wrote his review coincided with a French wine festival that year. As a result the movie got some raucous viewings in front of drunken French audiences. King's endorsement and the rowdy audience reaction boosted the movie's profile and distributors started picking it up. Fun stuff, cheers!

Evil dead is one of my all-time favorite films. Don't get me wrong, I love Evil Dead 2 as well as everything that came after. I just think it works better as a serious horror flick.

I actually just watched this movie for the first time a few days ago. I really liked it. I didn't enjoy it as much as the second one, but it was a lot scarier.

5:21 / 5:27 Well, which is it? Are they college students or are they "kids?" Obviously, they're college students in their early 20s. The youngest is Cheryl (correct me if I'm wrong) who's 20 years old during the events of the first movie. 12:55 His difficulty with foreign languages (or maybe just memorizing things in general) is revisited in 'Army of Darkness'. 16:19 I think they used grits or oatmeal. Grits would be fitting since it was filmed in Tennessee.

I really don't get why Raimi didn't just call the damned book the "Necronomicon"?! I mean, "Necronomicon Ex Mortis" is a gramatical clusterfuck! The term "Necronomicon" is all from Greek roots (like necro = dead) while "Ex Mortis" is from Latin (mortis, you got it, = dead). HP Lovecraft invented the word "Necronomicon" and says it came to him in a dream. It roughly translates to "book of the laws of the dead" or some translate it as "book of dead names". So adding "Ex Mortis" to it, forgetting the fact that it splits the roots between Greek and Latin, ends up with the name meaning, roughly, "book of the laws of the dead...of the dead" lol, or "book of dead names...of the dead" :)
