@justguy9418 Месяц назад
I'm confident in Matas gaining weight. NBA strength development is no joke, and the outliers who can't put on as much mass like Poku, Chet, Ingram, and KD all have one thing in common. They all had underdeveloped shoulders, whether it's college or overseas, they all had underdeveloped shoulders before being drafted. The difference with someone like Giannis, Anthony Davis, and Jonathan Isaac is that (when looking at older photos when they were in college or overseas) they had great shoulder development despite being so thin. Even players who were already a good enough size and gained weight, like Cade Cunningham and Jayson Tatum. They both had developed shoulders in college and both put on muscle. And looking at Matas you can see he has pretty well developed shoulders, not AD or Giannis levels (those guys were crazy outliers). But I'd say the closest comp for Matas in terms of body type and shoulder development would be Jonathan Isaac in Florida State. Jonathan Isaac was between 6'10/6'11 and 205 lbs in Florida State, and Matas Buzelis is 6'10 and 197 lbs, both have VERY similar measurements (Isaac is an inch taller and his wingspan is slightly longer), but their shoulder development looks nearly identical. Jonathan Isaac is NOW 6'10/6'11 and 230 lbs, meaning he put on 25 pounds of weight since being drafted. So I'd expect Matas to weigh at around 220 after a few years.
@justguy9418
@justguy9418 Месяц назад
Summarized, Matas has the tools to gain weight. Players like Poku, Chet, KD, and Ingram didn't pre-draft. Matas' physique and build is very similar to Jonathan Isaac in college. Jonathan Isaac weighed 205 lbs and was 6'11, Matas is 6'10 and weighs 197. Jonathan Isaac put on 25 lbs of weight and is now 230 lbs. I believe Matas could put on a similar amount of weight to where he's around 220 lbs.

Matas is a GREAT nail defender and very handsy and active at swiping lazy passes. Too jumpy on blocks sometimes like you said, but a lot of the time it isn't Matas messing up on rotations. It's usually someone else from what I've seen. The G-League Ignite was just sososo bad (this season especially) at teaching their guys not named Ron and Matas how to play defense.

This team should change their name to Detroit Tellems. They're going to add Trajan Langdon as the POBO (his agent was Arn Tellem) and they're going to draft Buzelis (his agent is Michael Tellem, Arns son) this team is ran worse than most local liquor stores. It's embarrassing and this team isn't going anywhere with Gores and Arn Tellem making the decions. Matas is at best the 8th best prospect

For the Killian Hayes point I think a lot of his "tough shot diet" revolved around his refusal and inability to add anything other than contested middies to his game. Matas is a different situation in that, he already can and does much more on offense than Killian. Matas has a bunch of other ways he makes "tough shots" while Killian was strictly middies.

@michaelahurt Месяц назад
Physically I think Buzelis will fill out perfectly fine. You need to look at the chest. If the chest is underdeveloped the guy is an ectomorph and hard gainer who won’t fill out until his late 20s. That’s Chet or KD. Buzelis is pretty well developed. He’ll grow into his frame. But he probably won’t be actually good until 23-24 once he develops better core strength
@justguy9418
@justguy9418 Месяц назад
Exactly, I look at shoulders more than chest because the one thing almost every thin NBA player like Ingram, KD, and Chet had pre-draft was underdeveloped shoulders. While thin players who GAINED a lot of weight like Giannis, AD, and Jonathan Isaac all had great shoulder development pre-draft. Matas' shoulder development and body measurements in general are nearly identical to college Jonathan Isaac. Jonathan Isaac was 6'10-6'11 and 205 lbs in FSU with a 7'0 wingspan, Matas is 6'10 and 197 lbs with a 6'10 wingspan. Jonathan Isaac after a few seasons is now 230 lbs. So Matas would probably fill out at around 220 lbs at the end.

I have to be honest. I have been flip flopping on some of these guys based off of what I hear about them, because I haven't seen much of most of these guys (other than highlights). If the Pistons draft Buzelis at #5 I can understand it. I don't really have a guy I feel they should take, nor do I have many that I think shouldn't be taken at #5. This year is much more wide open in my view than any other draft I can remember. Really I don't know how much I believe in Sarr as a clear #1 pick in comparison to the other players in this draft. The Pistons hitting rock bottom, falling from 1 to 5, in this draft might be more a positive than a negative. Others I'd like to see a video of are Reed Sheppard, Donovan Clingan, Cody Williams, Nikola Topic, Dalton Knecht, and Zacharrie Risacher. Trade the pick don’t waste another players potential. Let someone else develop these young players then trade for them after. I guarantee Cade would be an Allstar in another uniform already

So no strength, clumsy, small hands, looses ball easily, and takes a lot of contested shots..a hard pass. Doesn’t fit the city and shouldn’t fit the culture.
