But if they are from the USA, media just says the specific state, and they take for granted that people will know. That´s modern day cultural imperialism at its best.

Well Pearl recently made a video talking about her past and revealed that she dropped out of school at 14. So it was not surprising at all that she had never heard of Macbeth.
To be fair, that's exactly why I try not to judge queens too harshly for not knowing stuff. You just never know if some of them didn't finish their education because they got kicked out of their homes or ran away. It's sad, but it does happen a lot.
