@@mr.penguindrewmateo8146 No Goku Time is a nick name people gave it when the show was first airing on Toonami. I was there we did call it that because of how super Goku focused it was. Which is weird because despite being the main character of Z overall due to being a build up character especially in the first half you didn't really have him in large parts of the story so there was a balance of how he was used which is NOT the case with GT at all.

Going off into space to search for the dragon balls, getting back to the series' roots? Great idea... done badly. A surviving member of a race the saiyans genocided seeking revenge? Great idea... done badly. The fighters having to deal with a full-scale alien invasion that has taken over most of the planet? Great idea... done badly. The characters facing consequences for their constant use of the dragon balls as a "no consequences" mcguffin? Great idea... done badly. Super Android 17? ...Okay, that was just a bad idea.

He was always going to be a completely different character, this trunks didn't grow up as the sole surviving fighter of a post apocalypse. This one actually grew up in 10 years of total peace, then Buu happened, then another 10 years of total peace, if we ignore Super.

@@Degalon It’s still kinda weird to have Trunks in that position in the show. I’m not saying he has to be a carbon copy of Future Trunks, but Piccolo really would’ve been a better choice to be the “dad” of the group, which makes it even more sad that he barely does anything in GT.

God in Piccolo wouldn't that be waaay better

Would have loved to have this Trunks growing up in his future self's shadow, knowing he isn't as smart as his mom or a warrior like his dad and getting compared to someone he can never be when he doesn't meet their expectations. Like them saying they KNOW he can be better, or just a casual line when they're frustrated that a parent forgets and a kid remembers. It'd make this a chance for him to become his own person outside the shadow of his family.

See, a SINGLE line would've fixed all that, why couldn't they just use the Earth OR Namekian Dragon Balls like they do anyway later?

Wouldn't even need to gather the dragonballs. Either Piccolo or Dende could have explained that.

Ya but then the next easy solution to that is "Okay, send Seven of us to each Black Star Dragon Ball" that way they can collect them instantly and all Goku would have to do is instant transmission to each of them collecting the dragon balls and teleporting back to Earth with them.

They probably didn't think of the dark dragons yet but it would have been cool if instead the wish made the normal dragon balls inactive and they corrupted the balls. That would make it so they have to go on the journey and when they come back then it leads to the dark dragons

Super Saiyan 4 was easily the best thing that came from GT. I think its better than any of the other transformations.

Bebi Vegeta is the best arc in GT tbh. Super 17 isn't even close and the Shadow Dragons saga is a mixbag at most.

I think I saw one of the clips from Blue Water Dub when Baby Vegeta meets Trunks at Capsule Corp on RU-vid many years ago

Funny thing is, in Germany they cut so much of GT, that it was unwatchable. 13 Episodes missing, only 4 Episodes without any cut. If I remember correctly, they cut in the middle of the Fight of Super17 to the End of it.

I'm from the UK so like you I saw the Blue Water dub version as well, so I remember watching the first episode when it first aired here. That also means I didn't know about the rap version of the opening Funimation did until years later when TFS referenced it in a video one time, I think one of their lets play of the first xenoverse. I didn't watch a lot of GT, something about it didn't click for young me, so I didn't remember a lot of the early episodes, the most I watched was bits of baby so I saw SS4's first apperance and pretty much all of the Shadow Dragon arc. When I was older I tried watching it from the begining, I don't think I got past episode 3 😅

OG Dragonball had a pair of filler episodes with a similar premise. A female thief that the Red Ribbon army hired to steal the Dragonballs from Goku, with predictable results

That gag was also used in one of the first chapters from Dr Slump Maybe both was references to Toriyama's previous work. Or is just a trope, idk

Kirran will star streaming his own separate series of commentaries on GT, then makes a surprise appearance on this show at the beginning episodes review of the Baby arc. For the cycle continues ever on.

@@battlesheep2552 In hindsight, an easy fix for the Black Star Dragon Balls would have been to have them be the regular Dragon Balls getting corrupted by negative energy as the result of them being overused - basically, the premise of the Shadow Dragons saga.

Also this: Its been too long but iirc either -Bulmas Dragon Radar works on the black star balls, in which case, why did they enver pick up that there were 14 dragon balls, with 7 already gathered. OR -Bulma modified her radar/built a new one to specifically pick up the signal of the black star balls. How? Like if they gave off a different energy source, they are gone now so how did she configure it to be able to find them? Also, how did Pilaf learn about these? Also, why did Kami, after he split from piccolo and became 100% good, not destroy them? Or why did Piccolo not once he refused with Kami? Also, why does anyone know that using them = the planet blows up...sounds like they'd have to be USED to learn that.

@@shino4242 Dragon Balls probably can't be destroyed. Namekians know instinctively how their balls work or similar balls were made before. Radar doesn't register inactive balls and they were inactive until Piccolo and Kami fused. After that maybe they took time to properly reactivate. Plot convenience for Pilaf.

The better plot would have been the Black Star Dragon Balls were the cause of what destroyed Namek like the great catastrophe Guru guided them through. The plabet would have blown up but they thought get them off world only for the Dragon to say nice try you didn't fix it and still screw the planet up.

You know what, I like to think that the Shadow Dragons where created because of that.

For me,Gohan's design here honestly left a better first impression on me than Gohan's green bomber jacket in Super. And the black glasses definitely felt like a better call than the yellow ones. That being said, all the previous main female cast translated to GT very well.

Yes, you're technically correct that abridging content, such as a book, is to provide a more focused product, especially if it was especially prone to rambling or dull content, but going about the 'internet understood' meaning of an abridged anime, it's only partly about shaving down the content, because as proven in the 5 minute covers or things like JJK Hood, the real goal is parody, however that happens. Fun recontextualization, flanderizing personality traits, poking fun at poor narrative structure or even, god forbid, pop culture references... These are parts of the DNA for a good parody. I've seen quality 'abridgings' which just plainly retell the story in less time and sometimes have exaggerated voices or screen shakes or whatever, it feels like a waste of time to even bother with when the original still exists, so just doing what you're suggesting here wouldn't necessarily amount to a solid project. You know, in spite of your cleverly hidden ''uh doy' reply that doesn't entirely take into account the underlying meanings of my original post. Specifically whether there was much merit to even bothering and if the content was even relevant enough, but they've created such a rich AU, it had sparks of nostalgic fun as they joked about things like 'finding where Popo hid the bodies.' Next to the world-ending nukes, naturally.

Even though thats what they LITERALLY DID for all of DBZ Abridged. They watched and commented on it. Dunno why they couldn't do it again for this
