Dragon Ball GTFS Commentary | Episodes 38-40 

Hey folks! I want to emphasize something, because I really don't want to get it twisted. Please believe me when I say that, while I had preconceptions of the series, I tried to set them aside while watching. When I'd sit down for an episode, I'd put them out of my mind and try to experience the show as it was intended. This was made FAR easier by it being purely Japanese, with the original music, and solid subtitles. This made the experience feel fresh, and new. It also helps that I genuinely forgot a majority of the stuff that took place, and the order they took place in. So to that end, I did get to experience a lot of this fresh, if not entirely for the first time.. If you enjoy Dragon Ball GT? I genuinely don't think less of you, or your tastes. I just disagree with you. There's something there that's compelling to you that's just not there for me. I'm glad you enjoyed the show in your own right. Edit: Also, yes. Super does also pull a lot of stupid shit. Piccolo's death in the Res F arc is terrible. The Res F arc is probably worse than a majority of what's in GT. But we're not talking about Super. We're talking about GT.

Piccolo knew the truth. If he dies and takes the black star balls with him, there will never be another dragonball gt. He is the real hero of this anime. Sadly, he didn't know the writers still planned 24 more episodes.

To give some extra context, In the Latin American dub When Piccolo explains to Gohan why is staying in Earth, then AND ONLY IN THAT SCENE, Piccolo calls Gohan in that scene "Hijo" this is the only time where Piccolo Straight up tells him that he sees him as his own son, his last words are "Take care, Son" and it destroys a lot of people

I love how Lani's become the devil's advocate over time as Kaiser has lost his gorram mind XD

I thought these guys were Dragon Ball experts. Everybody knows that Ki is stored in the balls. Baby’s balls were crushed by Majuub during the inflation sequence, which is why Baby’s Super Dee Tooper Gallick Gun was so weak.

Hats off to Scott for that ad spot at beginning. First time an ad has made me double over laughing on RU-vid. Second time I've rewound a TFS ad because it was genuinely funny as hell. Now to watch the rest.

The ending of the Tournement of Power was The Gods of Dragon Ball apologizing to Android (Cyborg) 17 for the travesty that is GT's Super 17 arc. I for one can't wait to see Scott's further descent into the bowels of Madness watching the upcoming episodes.

Honestly, the people who have been saying that it gets better when Baby shows up probably haven't watched the show in 15+ years. I would know because I was in this group. I used to be blind to poor writing and animation as a kid, I was just happy to have more Dragonball

Scott slowly but surely just giving up on GT has been such a cathartic experience

I like the Scott is holding the Dub hostage, even after the original broke him and everyone else wants to switch. Scott's going down like GT Piccolo.

Watching these commentaries really does help confirm to me that the best way to experience Dragon Ball GT is through Budokai Tenkaichi 3’s story mode

Kaiser watches GT and gets grey hairs in his beard. Lani watches GT and treats it like it should have been lampooned on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

You know, the fun part about a SurfShark add is that they pretty much let you get away with anything. So you just never know what kind of add you are in for if TomSka is anything to go by XD

I knew once the piccolo scene happened, there was gonna be a STRONG conversation because Kaiser called it about people complimenting that scene. I saw the scene on a RU-vid Short with sad music edited in and the comments were flooded with praise talking about piccolo’s journey to get here. I just think they wanted another piccolo sacrifice scene but the logic behind the decision isn’t there for me.

I have *never* seen Kaiser ramped up to this level of pure nerd rage and I am *loving* it

We finally got through the Baby Arc, what's usually regarded as the best arc of GT. And there's still so much more left 😊

You know the worst part about ALL OF THIS? A Hero's Legacy is probably the best thing to come out of GT for how tame it is. Ignoring the plotholes, it's a story of self-improvement and braving danger for the sake of others. I hate how the EPILOGUE of this show is a breath of fresh air.

Aaaaand This just proves why I tune in to TFS and Bento, I don't tune in for their credibility, Its their honesty. Kaiser flat out saying GT is the worst of the worst, while also giving respect to people who do like it cemented why I love and respect them.

I remember in one of these episodes, hercule stands up to baby and goku calls him a hero. Would've been the first time in the abridged series goku could officially say "hail satan"

Headcanon: Popo made the Black Star Dragon Balls. For no particular reason, just thought it'd be fun to make some himself. When he'd had his fun, he left them in the jar with the rest of his discarded refuse.

The 10x turns red later on, every big beam in the Baby saga is the same color as a normal Kamehameha, even ones that shouldn't be like the Galick Gun which should be pink/purple. I guess they realized later on how visually boring this is and gave everything a distinct color, and the games later corrected the Super Galick Gun to be the color it should have been in the first place. I dunno, maybe they made it red to imply he's infusing the beam with the Kaioken, or maybe just because it looks cool.

We all sat here eagerly awaiting Lani’s sanity deteriorating only to be woefully unprepared for the complete annihilation of Kaiser’s sanity.

I'm not gonna lie that was not only the best Surfshark ad I've seen, it's the first time I haven't skipped over it to the start of the actual content.

If you look really closely, you can see the momemt Scott's soul flies from his eyes in that ad read. It's sorta beautifully tragic. XD

For the 10* kamehameha, I always thought this name was a reference to the fact that the Oozaru form multiplies your power ten times fold. The SSJ4 is channeling the strength of the Oozaru in your normal body and Goku only uses the 10* times Kamehameha while in ssj4

I'm with Lani on that Piccolo death: it could have been something if they had actually built up to it.

Sometimes we fall in love with the promise of something more than the product itself. It can hurt to realize that's what you've done to yourself. Lani, who was never in love with GT's promise, can be happy in seeing something laughably bad fail to achieve anything of interest. But Kaiser, who can't help but engage with the genuinely interesting setups, leaves himself vulnerable when the plot demands that a payoff occur--to resounding failure. I empathize with that.

The ad was genuinely entertaining lmao.

I remember people arguing how the powerlevel scaling in GT was in like the trillions and I didn't realize how little they showed for it

To be perfectly fair regarding Goku's sudden ability to just absorb energy balls: this isn't the first time he's just made up a super power. Like back in DBZ when he just decided that he could read people's minds. Edit: I do love a good Kaiser rant, you can really tell just how incredibly passionate he is about this franchise through how he doesn't pull punches in his criticism.

I don't think I've ever been MORE disappointed I'm not subscribed to SurfShark. I love the ads y'all do (Jesse and Lani's fight over Raycon earbuds lives rent free in my head) but this was S tier for me 😂

The way that they actually approved the ad and even let you put the logo up right after you said they were pussies if they don’t. Total power move and I loved it!(great and funny meta ad I hope you enjoyed making)

It's really starting to feel like the writers actually _did_ have, at the very least, a general idea as to what to do. But then they get reminded "Hey. You have to do a certain amount of episodes to fill for a quota." So we get all these weird moments and plot points that are just there to drag stuff out. This fight should have ended after the Oozaru Baby Vegeta Galick Gun vs. SSJ4 Goku 10x Kamehameha, but then it's just "Hey. Episode quota" and it gets dragged out.

If Kaiser's this mad about the Baby Saga, which is usually considered the best of GT, then he's not gonna survive the Super 17 arc...

piccolo being alone on a planet at this point made entirely out of deserts, ruins and other assorted desolated areas is kind of a mood, not gonna lie.

The thing about the Goku Black Arc ending is that there are things in it that you can add to, to make it at least a little more palpable. There’s a sense of salvageability to it, without rewriting what was already put in place. GT does not have that luxury, it can _only_ be rewritten or remain crap

I honestly thought they should have had two teams of dragonball searchers in the beginning. 1)Piccolo with Goten, Trunks, and Bra for tech support. Piccolo has a solidified history as being the guardian/mentor/babysitter of the next generation of Saiyans and this can lead to oodles of interesting dynamics, like a return of Gotenks and the children of Bulma and Goku continuing the dragon ball searching tradition 2)Vegeta with Goku, Pan, and Giru. It's weird how Vegeta is the only one on the team who has extensive experience with space travel but stays home instead. Goku is depowered and has to relearn all his old techniques for his new body so the team isn't overpowered, and all of this allows Uub to step up as the new guardian of Earth while the big guns are away.

It weirdly seems like the writers for GT are the literal embodiment of, "Only watched Dragon Ball, who dis?" and had to be given a five minute crash course on everything that happened in Dragon Ball Z. The fact the Legacy of Goku came out *DURING* the release of GT episodes, the early episodes, the lack of any sort of power scaling beyond "Rildo is stronger than Buu, and Baby is stronger than Rildo, and Super 17 is gonna be stronger than," and so on.
