Yeah don’t get me wrong super’s art style can be pretty good sometimes but I do mainly prefer dbz art style cause of how it makes everyone look more cool and menacing and doesn’t make them look like a cartoon like super’s does.
I think its the digital coloring and precision behind it being digital now. Its just too clean and the art style change doesnt help. Its too on model all the time and it doesnt allow visceral squash and stretch frames. Course dbz artstyle is also inconsistent, and i def have my fav artist styles here, but for instance, caulifla just looks so much better in z style.
@@meghanandrockmackay5804 youre kinda right but haven't they have the same art style as dbs broly in daima? I think they learnt that nobody likes super art style
The old style captures a certain level of "grit" in the art unlike the modern "smoother" one. Such a difference is staggering! The 90s were truly a blessing
my personal like of the Z style is the Saiyan's just look like X10 more fierce and FAR more aggressive and naturally angery. Cabba and calilifa looked far more like proper saiyans
Why would you ever watch it in the first place? Anyone with a working brain not sucking the dick of nostalgia knew supers animations is like a high school girl did it
This is one reason why I've started to like 90s and 2000s anime more because it's just so much sharper and alot of them have this grit this dirty somehow more realistic look to it. Not to mention when the animation is smooth and fluid in the 90s stuff it just hits different.
I never cared about Goku Black like so much of the fandom cared for him. But seeing him in Z’s artstyle? Holy hell, he actually looks intimidating and cool to me now! God I miss that artstyle, made everything just pop.
The Z style makes him look much more sinister, I think its just small details like the slimmer and sharper chin, and the z shading helps make them look less plastic
Another thing I noticed is that their necks in the og design are more muscular and more detailed, which makes them look more intimidating in my opinion
@@suda_lifts it's not just the neck, it's pretty much every muscle. The DBZ art style gives more of a pop off which makes them look wayyy beter, and the color and shadows make it even better.
i know that someday, AI will get so good, we'll be able to get Super in Z style in the future. so don't be too down guys, it's just a matter of time we'll be able to get this someday.
Nothing can really beat Z's artstyle. Super makes the characters look cartoonish, plus they removed the detail in being demaged like having blood or red bruises, which just adds to the cartoon 'shiny' plastic texture. Z had more like a mature style to it, very detailed, feels natural, everybody looks more serious which adds more tone. Making it better to watch in my opinion.
They changed it because.. well they didn’t want kids to see characters getting beat the fuck out of while guts and blood spew out of them. I know children commonly see that TODAY but Toei didn’t want that so they made it more child friendly
@@thisnameisexpunged not really, it's just because toriyama is an idiot and likes noodle characters, plus super is a cashgrab show on a showstring budget made to revive a dying franchise. hence still no second season.
@@thisnameisexpungedBut why not? They did before and it's not like it ruined us. We all grew up with dbz as kids and it's not like it hurt us. Why censor it now? It just makes it worse and gives kids less tonally mature things to enjoy.
@@dragonsky8396 they can't make it as a seasonal show because of merchandise so they would go with 100 episodes in one go rather than making it seasonal since it would go for years
Z animation may not have been as clean as dbs but it was more detailed more accurate and had more care put into it oh man dbz I will miss you very much 😢
every shot with vegeta or goku was perfect, they had the hair we know about, not some small squished hair super tried to give them, instead its the fluffy spikes for vegeta, and the fluffly, poofy black hair for goku, man i love that
Honestly I don’t hate the new style and there are moments where I think it works well enough but the old style is just so much more iconic and would’ve made Super feel more like a true sequel to Z
I mean dbs doesn’t really have a style to begin with it’s so inconsistent to the point where you can spot a complete style change when a big moment is coming/high budget scene. Kinda whack tbh, sprinkle in some god tier animation every 10 episodes to keep our delusions going it’s a blatant disrespect to fans who gotta sit through those 10 episodes of slideshows
@@takeyourpickbigchongoose I wouldn't go as far as to say it's disrespectful but it's definitely disingenuous to a certain extent, idk to me seems like they reopened up the world of dragon ball to catch a wave and not out of passion all of this seems like it's for money ,everything seems rushed and done unprofessional as if they did things lazily and with like a w.e attitude .to me it was just about the money there is nothing else to it.
@@takeyourpickbigchongoose I mean, Z wasn't consistent either, switching directors left and right through it's history, but it's still better than whatever direction Super took until Tournament of Power
Nah, the art style is worse but bearable. What grinds my gears is the fact that they replaced Goku as the main character. Clownku will never be able to compare.
I prefer the animation of Dragon ball Z because even though it is old, the warmer colors gave an extra beauty in the transformations ,even with simpler scenarios, but they keeping the focus on the combats
@@stephanos6128 bro.... What animation? If dbz was a drawing style of course it was an animation but drawings that's why the chapters took so long that's why the artists said making a cell was a pain in the ass because they had to make frame x frame of him
@CuentadePrueba-ji1ju You need to inform yourself. Animation is a method of photographing successive drawings, models, or even puppets, to create an illusion of movement in a sequence. Because our eyes can only retain an image for approximately 1/10 of a second, when multiple images appear in fast succession, the brain blends them into a single moving image.
So glad Funimation used the infinite funding from DBZ to make a spinoff where Goku turns pink, then super cyan, fights a bunch of furries, and had it all animated by a bunch of untalented children. GJ everyone.
Que prefieres: dibujos detallados como los de z pero con mala animación o dibujos no tan detallados como los de db Super broly pero con una animación excelente
The only time DBS had fight animations on the level of DBS Broly was in its last few episodes. All of DBS Super Hero is CGI and the fight animations are a drop down from what DBS Broly showed. So yes I'd prefer the Z designs and animation styles.
Z art style will always look. Cool. Nostalgic. And descriptive. The whole artstyle itself tells how serious it all looks when done right. Man I feel so old. 😂
this video for real made realise how much better the old dbz animation art was back then now it feels so like kid friendly in super there is not that blood and brutalness dbz had back then i so miss old dbz :'(
1. Esos son buenos dibujos no buena animación, Super tiene la mejor animación. 2. Esas escenas tan exajeradas y tan sangrientas eran relleno, en el manga no son así
@@GABO_10-061. Super's animation is not that great to begin with, you're saying it as if it's exceptional, but it merely is more fluid than average Z's. That's it, and that's not an achievement seeing how technology and difference in art quality has changed since then. Most of the "well animated" episodes in Super made characters wobbly, almost spineless, almost as if I was watching Naruto VS Pain, lol. 2. Who's ever said that the Anime didn't enhance the experience, except for the delusional people who say that Manga is always better than its animated adaptation? Either way, Manga still had tons of gore, sometimes even more (see: SSJ2 Gohan vs Cell Jrs)
@@elsrqueimprime684 1. Coloring made it look uglier, because it looked too shiny and digital, as if it was made in Flash. It was especially obvious in ToP with all those blurry shadows and super bright Ki waves. Of course, Super Broly has improved it by a TON, but I'm talking about the TV series. Motion blur during punches/kicks, shockwaves, hit impacts, speed of movement, sharpness of movement - all of this was different in Super, to say the least. 2. The art was still mediocre later on, as you can even see in this video. And animation style was different to Z's-- it looked more generic, even when it was more fluid.
Now, THIS is a perfect example that dbs doesn't look as great as people think AND that the dbs artstyle can't touch the look of the old-school artstyle. Amazing.
This is literally the opposite of what you said. This is proof that the only people who claim DBZ looks better than DBS consistently are those who are stuck with rose tinted glasses and only watch the highlights of Z, while only using the low points of Super as evidence.
@Happened Earth72 there, I fixed it. Dick. I'm a DB fan through and through and love all of it, but I still think nothing can or will touch the dbz art style. Go try that with someone else.
Now that I look back, DBS has a Disney feel to it. Cabba in particular looks like an epic warrior in the DBZ style of art. Unbelievable how much of a difference there is.
Z is by far the best style and I'm really hoping that when super comes back, they will switch back to the Z format, or something very similar. Not that it will lool exactly like Z, but that the artists will actually have time to get everything perfect. I did hear a while back that that's what they were going to do when it comes back, as well as making it bloody again. Bringing back Z levels of bloodiness and allowing the artists the proper amount of time to make everything perfect would make dbs infinitely more appealing and make the story that much more intense and emotional.
I sincerely hope that does NOT happen! The manga's artstyle SHOULD be the anime's main artstyle until the end of the show, that is if it comes back. Super's artstyle looks overall shinier, which I loved and i prefered over Z's outdated style. Super artstyle (Not including the Broly movie's)>>Z's animation style ALL the way.
The mangas art style is very good and the blood less issue was because of censor boards going no our kids are too sensitive to see blood but they sure can see sexual references and relationships yeah so there would have been blood if the Japanese and other censor boards were good
Sadly thats not going to happen, the reason is the that old superior artstyle takes more time aka money to do , while the newer one is cheaper and faster, At the end of the day money trumps all other reasons. Plus they dont care about popularity issues because DB has become an established franchise, they know people will watch/buy regardless
something I noticed is that Z style actually shows blood when a character is hurt, because when you are hurt that badly it makes sense that you'd bleed and the original artwork just doesn't give that kind of impact, so I gotta say its made me realize the unique impact Z style has, thank you
dude, tenshinhan lost his freaking arm in Z through a powered punch from Nappa, you could see the censored arm being torn apart and the blood was white in the anime
This video really shows how Super's art style really held back the the look of new characters. Kaba and Caulifla look like way more believable Dragon Ball characters now
I really wish someone would be able to animate Super and/or make a Super Parody to just have its narrative be better, like how Something Witty Animation has done with SAO. It would be incredible! Only a dream tho sadly
@@josephjoestar4413 Yes, a very effective argument to use against a Japanase company subject to a completely different jurisdiction. A company, in particular, that actively seeks and obliterates "parodies". I'm sure their army of lawyers will be most compelled by that argument.
The thing I like about dbz style is the old school animation and there’s more muscle detail and shows more details of how they look after fighting an tough opponent
The old Toriyama-Z style just hit so much harder, had so much more expressiveness to it, both in the characters' expressions and their artistic design. They had more emotion, seemed more imposing, had more colour and vitality, felt more alive. The current style is....nice, and clean, and consistent, but it's TOO clean, it's very obvious it's all been highly touched up and straightened up in editing and design software, and all the extra visual effects that were used in place of the old handdrawn special effects, it all just screams artificialness, and lacks much if not all of the things that made it artistic.
I think the Z art-style would’ve fit the most in the goku black arc, because it had the perfect dark setting for this type of art-style. A gritty dark story, combined with the rough and more edgy designs of the characters.
