Excellent video!!! Rick, when you play a drag with your left hand it seems like the thumb/fulcrum is doing the work and the index and middle finger are barely moving. Is that correct? Isn't that different than how you usually play a double? If so then why? Thanks a lot!!!
Hi Ben That is correct. The bottom 2 fingers and the first 2 fingers are regulating the bounce of the stick while the thumb is moving it. There is naturally going to be just a little wrist involved to get the initial bounce. When I play a double stroke roll which is generally louder I let the stick bounce more between these groups of fingers so it may look like they are doing more but it is to control a louder bounce.
