DREAM JOB UPDATE! | trying to navigate the public school system as a new social worker/counselor 🫠 

When I left my last job of 10 years I had no expectations other than salary and peace and finally found a job that meets both and it’s no way related to what I went to school for or where I thought my career path would take. I think it’s really important to do something you love and I definitely feel you I still consider some of my old co workers like family. Thanks for sharing!!!❤️

As a related service provider, you absolutely have a say in what service times you should provide a student based on their goal. Even if you were not present for the IEP meeting, an addendum can be held to adjust goals and service times.

Public education needs related service providers like you!

Currently a MSW student doing school based mental health as well. Everything you stated in this video is exactly how I feel. I graduate this summer and I have no idea where I want to work but I know I need a break from this position.

I appreciate your videos so much. I am currently trying to figure out what to do for my future. I put my education/work on hold for the past 10 years to devote being a Stay at home mom of my four kiddos until they reach school age. My youngest potentially (public preschool on free spot because we are low income) will start preschool in the fall , 2023 with that said I am trying to decide on going to school full time/work part or work full /school part time. (There are a few classes I have to be present for so two semesters I can’t do full online) What i see myself doing is working with kids that are falling through the cracks. I want to be able to offer social/emotional support as well as educational support. If I child comes on with behavioral difficulties and has a learning difficulties such as dyslexia and is needing help with understanding a certain subject I want to be able to help. I don’t necessarily want to fully teach to a classroom I want to be one on one with the student. This stems from my own struggles as a child. I had a wonderful team of women who helped me during one of the most challenging times in my life. I had a lady who really sat down and let me cry on her couch and tell her my issues as well as she helped me learn fractions in a way that clicked. I was leaning on special education but I am interest in occupational therapy and social work. I love children and I love service.

Where are your earrings from? But, yes, I agree! I’m a high school teacher and I feel I’m the best version I can give to my students while also pushing to find a different path. Currently in library school but would love to work in tech.

i worked in education last year. unfortunately, the lack of feedback just kind of happens at all levels even when you chat with colleagues. i wish i had some advice for you

Do any of the schools in your district get together as a student support team...meaning the School Counselor, School Social Worker, School Psychologist, School Nurse... if the district has MFLC, ASACS (Substance abuse counselors), Behavior Health, School Based Therapist & Psychiatrist to do roundtables on a regular? Are they not inviting you to these meetings? I don't mean eRTI or MTSS or SST, I mean exactly those titles only?

Day jobs should not validate your happiness. so many people get caught up in the non sense. when you sign up for a job. no paper work you sign agrees you too be happy. its all about the process of looking for other avenues when you get off work. so many people are miserable because they blame there jobs. find the idea of your day job funding your dreams and get excited about getting off work and processing your happy.
