up all night on and off and on the can again. finally barfed this morning, felt a little better but then felt dehydrated. went and got some imodium. that seems to be doing the trick thus far, water is staying down and so is some chicken noodle. sipping on some pedialyte as well.
I had a sore throat and it hurt to swallow anything. I slept a lot so I often felt dehydrated . I was skeptical about the orange juice method, but nothing else seemed to be working. So I decided to try it out and I must say it is highly effective. If anyone stumbles across this comment just know I recommend this.
In my opinion, grape Pedialyte tastes amazing especially when I’m thirsty/dehydrated/sick. The key is have it COLD, with lots of ICE. Also watering it down slightly makes it taste even better too, especially if you’re not a fan of the taste (I am)
I had a stomach bug in the form of a fever and diarrhea all day today and feeling the vomit coming and kept suppressing it. Then I crushed up three cloves of garlic at the end of the day, chewed and swallowed them. In less than three minutes I felt the vomit coming and it sprayed like a firehouse LOL! After I vommitted no more fever, body ache or belly pain. My strength is back.
currently have had the stomach bug for 6 days , when i say it’s a living hell… TRUST ME . i wouldn’t wish this on ANYONE. the vomiting stopped ab two days ago after throwing up all my insides out for 4 days straight day & night . i’ve barely had any sleep but now i’m finally trying to recover as quick as i can . worst feeling ever istg.
@@DoodleDansame dude I’m one of them who no joke literally threw up hundreds a times day it’s the worst thing ever, had to go hospital in the end, wouldn’t wish it on anyone who’s had it insanely bad
I get bugged when my friends complain that, they "can't even keep down water". Water hits the stomach very hard because of its hydrogen bonding. Adding electrolytes changes that. I had a gastrectomy, and my whole GI tract had to readjust over a year post-op. I was no stranger to nausea before the surgery. Pedialyte saved me from so many ER trips while I was recovering. My dietitian said she wouldn't let me get IVs, that I had to relearn how to eat and drink post-op. The store brands were cheaper, and I'd water them down some. I'd think, it's this or being in an ER with florescent lights and sick people, not as comfortable as home. Too much sugar like in sports drinks and fruit juice would give me diarrhea. Ginger tea (chopped up ginger steeped in boiled water for 20 minutes) actually has enough ginger to illicit its anti-nausea effects. It's spicy, but it work post-tonsillectomy.
Thank you very much! I got food poisoning cause by Bacillus cereus. I had the brilliant lazy idea of eating the roomtemp leftover pasta from the previous night instead of making fresh ones. I will never, ever neglect food safety from now on.
Pedialyte is good for rehydration. Most sports players have actually switched to it compared to Gatorade. But on the flipside IMHO it tastes like shit and it''s expensive 🤣
Gatorade for me works quicker then medication with a stomach ache it helps keep my energy up,whilst giving me Somthing to actually throw up instead of just dry heaving I usually water mine down tho so that I can get more water
Dr. O’Connell, thank you for sharing. I managed to have oj in the fridge.. added mostly water to the oj-and instead of generic salt I shook some Himalayan Pink Salt in and it tastes like one of my favorite snacks: Orange w/ a little salt. I feel a lot better now so thank you Doc!
What you should’ve suggested, is watering down Gatorade and adding electrolytes. That’s cheaper but still good. Also tastes better too. Or best of all- GRAPE FLAVORED PEDIALYTE, IMO it actually tastes amazing and really helps.
It was nice to learn what fluid to drink. My biggest problem is taking my medicine ie blood pressure, depression meds, htcz, etc because anything I drink or try to eat gets vomited or pooped out right away. I am into my third day of this, still vomiting and pooping so much. It being Christmas, I can’t call my doctor.
I am dealing with a stomach bug or something today. I did finally buy some generic Pedialyte. He is right it does not taste good, but you do feel better sooner. I'll take the bad taste for the relief.
I'll have to try this for nausea. When I had the stomach bug last month, I took zofran, anti nausea and that stuff is magic. I was definitely less miserable.
Thank you Doctor for touching on the subject of diarrhea. That is exactly what I wanted to hear, dehydration after diarrhea. I’ve tried all those drinks. Thank you for the home remedy of orange juice and water and salt or baking soda. Will try that. Would like to know how long with rest do you feel 💯 😊
This is the only way I can describe what I have. A stomach bug. Other than that I'm 100% fine. Just nauseous and stomach problems but not vomiting... But this was a very interesting tip. Gonna try
What if you’re not necessarily dehydrated anymore (drank lots of water and pedialyte) but the back of your throat hurts really bad? Like it hurts swallowing
Id imagine this would work wonders for the lower half of the 'stomach." However for those who are throwing up from the stomach. Rehydrating with such drink would not be very good. When one usually throws up, the majority of the contents in ones stomach would be expelled. Causing the stomach to eventually fill back up with very acidic, bile. Once said patient drinks said drink above, this would cause a lot of acid to be consumed, Causing a train reaction of other side effects, related or may be confused with said original "stomach" bug , upsetting the stomach once again leading to heart burn, more vomiting, dehydration, etc., as well as potentially worsening the main underlining issue. The stomach bug. However oranges and orange juice have very beneficial vitamins in them. If one would recommend this to another. I would advise them otherwise or to dilute it further to reduce the possibility of inducing other potential side effects. My personal favorite is water with or without baking soda and fresh ripe bananas. But we all have opinions of our own. Coming from a citrus nut like me this is something I would never say. But I have learned this hard way and I am sure there are other out there doing similar things. Thanks
I had two bananas while trying to treat my stomach bug and it’s the only thing I didn’t bring back up😊… all the coconut water, gsol,Gatorade and water I brought right back up within a few minutes.
I just tried the pedialyte popsicles and those are amazing, they taste amazing... that might be because I haven’t been able to drink much without throwing up but they were sooooo good!
That's awesome! My kid used to hate Pedialyte when she was little. She called it "the barf drink" 😁 (Both because you drank it when you were barfing and because it might MAKE you barf!)
I have a stomach flu right now Thank you so much for your help and information But still doesn't really work for me But hopefully I can find a video that will help me cure or can help me deal with hydration 👇
For people who are so sick they can’t keep down fluids, wouldn’t keeping the fluids in your mouth without swallowing it, allow for the sublingual and buccal absorption of the fluids into the blood?
For everyone that thinks Gatorade could work. Gatorade and Powerade is a 50/50 chance it will work. I had a stomach bug once and Gatorade made it worse. for some weaker stomachs I suggest water or Pedialyte, and if you think you can handle it try Gatorade.
Year is $4 bucks but the point is to get better …..things that don’t taste good are good for u I learn that….is not kool how u you don’t like it . It’s your on opinion. But if u don’t have money that’s another way to go thanks for the information
