In this video I do a walk-through of the Driven Diesel hutch mod kit, while we’re in the tank we do the harpoon mod and a couple thousand miles later we drain the filter to see what we caught at the pumps cross country.
@@bryanbuilt360 One interesting thing about my install over yours was that i have a single cab... There is not a lot of room to mount that filter. I either sandwich it between fuel pump and front diff, or between tank and front diff... It was a tight fit, but I put it between tank and front dif... Still only about 2-3" clearance on either side... Also, did you run into issues with the bolts for the filter mount not being threaded long enough? I will need to replace at least the lower bolt because the threads bottomed out before the bracket was tight...
Awesome video! I enjoyed watching you work through the install. I wonder why Driven Diesel designed the filter kit to thread JIC connectors into the housing and then connect to separate JIC style barbs. It seems like threading brass barbs directly into the housing would be a lot simpler.
“What the f are you boys doing on my lawwwwnnn” hahaha love the profile pic! I was thinking the same thing while installing it, it seemed a little convoluted… don’t know if the valves they slchose had anything to do with it. I appreciate the shout out!
Great video! I’m surprised there are no comments on this yet. Very concise and accurate. I just installed the hutch mod and am curios about the shut off valves you installed on the filter housing. Do you have a link or part number? Thanks
Thanks for the comment! I’ve gained a few followers on Instagram from this video but that’s about it haha I do not have the part number for the shutoff valves… I purchased mine from diesel power products. It was boxes to check while ordering the kit. www.dieselpowerproducts.com/driven-diesel-fuel-tank-mod-73l-ford.aspx May want to try and reach out to their customer service, maybe they can ship the valves individually. Hope this helps!
@@bryanbuilt360 it’s time for me to do that same mod. Ur videos are great. Like how u take the time to explain and u show good video of the work being done.
Did you ever address the repair of the fuel sending unit resister which supposedly is not available separately? I enjoy and appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻
Hey brother, I did not get around to it. Ford used the same resistor in the sender I think 1988 and up, that chip has to be swapped to the tan plastic housing on the sender. Most of them I have seen are yellow wires, I really need to make that video as these senders are so damn expensive
I thankfully did not have issues and depending on how bad the rust is (lol) grinding the head off won’t get the bed off. The shoulders of the bed bolts are wider than the hole in the crossmembers. So shoulder holds bed down to frame. However, in that situation I have welded 7/8” nuts to the heads of the bed bolts and turned them out that way
Hey Bryan, love the video. Very informative and detailed. I’m wondering if you know if the hutch mod needs to be done to the 6.0? I have an 03 f250 6.0 that is “running out of gas” at 1/4 tank. Any info would be great.
Hey there, I just took a look at a sending unit part online for the 6.0. It’s similar with that black pickup funnel. If that fell off in your tank you could be having those symptoms. Worth a look In the tank to see what’s going on. If that’s ok, I would suspect the float may need to be adjusted
Hey just wanted to fill you in a after further research. I got inside the gas tank and saw that the pickup funnel had fallen apart. Replaced and problem solved! Thanks again for the help.
I did not put the filter back in the pickup screen. I was happy the filter we were putting in was before the fuel pump so no harm there and any garbage in the tank would hit that filter and not have to pull the tank again if the tank screen got clogged
I enjoyed watching the movie how to install the auxiliary fuel filter however I am not a big fan of using the strata we have had considerable amount of problems with it in years gone by
why put the umbrella back on? i thought the hutch mod also deleted that becasue they inevitably always break? is there another option for the end of the pick up?
@@snewcomer6831 I put it back on because I didn’t feel comfortable with just a metal line there, in case it dropped I didn’t want it to touch the tank and potentially rub through. Also prevent aeration nearby was a theory in my head. Also just did a search at driven diesel and don’t see the valve option anymore, just the extra fuel line. Dang!
This applies to 99-03. I have never researched if anyone has done this on the OBS fords. I remember doing mostly FAAS fuel systems on those years because of the two tanks..
I don’t know if anyone is reading these comments anymore but I installed one of these and now my truck is running bad the engine shakes under acceleration thinking maybe the pickup foot is on the bottom of the tank really unsure
Still reading! Haha so does it run rough all the time or when the tank is below a certain level? Where did you mount the filters? Any other moss or tuner on the engine? Let me know!
Got mine coming from there for an excursion with the 7.3 this video is the best demonstration of the install as far as the sending unit and such. No bed removal for me.
