Comma device is a piece of aftermarket hardware that plugs in to your car and is mounted to the windshield. It runs Comma.ai's custom software, Openpilot. Openpilot is easy to use and works similarly to your regular adaptive cruise control. Simply press a button on your steering wheel and It enables your car to steer, accelerate, and brake automatically within its lane; and it does all of this much better than your car's default stock system. Openpilot is similar to Tesla's Autopilot.

in 10 yrs, the disability community is going to have an easier time of transporting and the common aftereffect of fatigue/pain. will take time for OEM to manufacture vehicles w necessary hardware and being disabled usually means limited income i.e used car market. exciting, utilitarian and most important - INCREASED SAFETY. also - great succinct video - well done!!

Using it just as a distraction warning device is quite useful already. Could even be used in incompatible vehicles, even in Europe.

Hey, true, but distraction warnings are enabled when Openpilot is engaged. I am driving EU Civic.

@@LetitDrive It should be possible to have a light version just with warnings enabled. Could be used in cars not compatible with open pilot control system. It would allow to introduce open pilot in other countries. I live in Europe where full open pilot might not be legal. I witnessed already an accident when a car in front of me fall in a river because driver fall asleep. No casualties. Driver companion didn't notice. Had to rescue all passengers from upside down car half submerged in the river. Two adults and two kids. A warning only or even emergency stop only could make it easier to introduce it in other countries and non compatible cars.

You should have shown car with ACC by OpenPilot and has Automated Lane Centering (ALC) until stop, like the best car for OpenPilot (out-of-the-box), the Corolla. Just curious, does the OP slows down the car until stop? Does it stop in the emergency lane? Does the hazard signal turns on?

I have OP ALC. But my car has Bosch radar for ACC, so OP can't control gas or brake. I don't have more information about OP ACC, I think it will eventually stop the car, but hazards didn't turn on, would be great if it could do so.

This is awesome but you still have you keep your eyes on the road 100% of the time which on long drives make you very tired.

@@LetitDrive So that you can bypass driver monitoring. Comma won't be able to flag you for changing the params because you are just changing the warning sound. Works with stock acc. I wouldn't do it but just saying.

Automatic distance, gas and brakes (Adaptive Cruise Control / ACC) are Honda's stock system controlled. Openpilot only takes over steering. Depends of the car make and model if Openpilot can take over control of ACC, please check the table and "ACC" (my Honda Civic is "Stock"): github.com/commaai/openpilot/blob/master/docs/CARS.md

Logically, the driver becomes unresponsive a regular car would crash within seconds. With comma.ai driving the car, the likely hope is the driver regains control or traffic comes to a stop eventually. So, we know which system is the clear winner. I would buy comma3 without second thoughts if my car is supported. Actually, my decision to buy a car is based on the factor that comma3 is supported.

without comma3, the car (even ones with lane keep features) just disable and crash. How is THAT safe? The features should never just disengage, imagine if someone had a seizure and then the car just turns off the assistance and crashes. So how is this stupid exactly?
