I tell my helpers, I stop, you drop and you run ! I aways have several stops in the cab ready to go. Every second counts at peak when your loaded to your breaking point. Two months until my 30 years of driving ! 😀
@Focal Point Images what if they are new and after a few weeks they get faster ? Lol asking for me .. I am a conditional hire , my hire date is next week but it’s a online zoom meeting .. so I guess they tell me when I actually start … any tips would be great 👍🏾
4:40 is how me and my driver was. You take one side I take the other lol. He’d drop me off with some packages to drop and he’d go down the street drop some packages turn around and pick me up. It helped that we were both young.
Here’s what actually happens..... hey, I’m Bill nice to meet you. Get ready for the workout of your life. 12 hours later... hey Bill I don’t think I’m cut out for this. Next.......
I was a driver for 30 yrs. and every peak season used my creativity to convince management a helper wouldn’t be feasible on my route they actually listened, couldn’t find a helper that could run 2-10 miles between stops...
Omg!!! This girl would annoy the hell out of me with how slow she moves. If you are slow, this is not the job for you. You have got to hustle, hustle, hustle. Oh, did I forget to tell you that you have to hustle? Same thing with mail carriers. Everyone thinks we just sit on our asses, and we're out for a leisurely drive. UPS AND THE POST OFFICE kicks ass!!! I will say this...i DO NOT recommend running though. That is an accident waiting to happen. A very, VERY fast walk however works fine.
I love our UPS driver. It is the fedEx driver that just dumps it. We have fenced in yard and he leaves it outside the gate. Not only that he chooses the road one not the driveway so sometimes we don't see it.
4:40 is way more like it the closer you get to christmas. I was running so fast I thought I was going to get drafted by the New England Patriots. I loved this job though and will happily do it again this peak
Basically wear some type of work boots a jacket some water and snacks not hard at all they do none of this just walk fast and your good you work between 2.5-4 hours goes by quick
@@STILLNIGHTPEARL NEVER RING A DOORBELL!!! people are stupid and open their door and let their dog out. But don't worry about that because " He's harmless, he will just lick you to death." That is what they always say.
4:40 is exactly how it's done. I never cross behind the vehicle and never will do, if someone rear ends you while you're waiting to cross, you've lost your legs and it's happened to drivers before. Cross slightly to the front, the truck is between you and traffic, and the slope of the hood allows you to see before crossing. I get marked down for my S&V every time but i don't care, my safety is more important
The UPS driver I was helping for 2 days had me do 4:30 & 4:40 at the same time. While she walked with single packages. Should’ve never told her I was playing soccer at the time 😑
That's about right, everything you do will be wrong. When you do it the way one boss wants you to do it the next one will have different feelings.... Over two dozen bosses at Brown have taught me that. TRAIN the helpers a little bit before you give them to the driver so they don't have to spend the whole morning each day training a new helper how to do basic things.
Lol well he's probably used to doing this route alone and has a certain way of doing it, plus he may feel responsible for the well being of the helper.
I glad to see ,how the driver helpers some what works but I didn't l like how the driver wasn't being a gentleman in the video. I hope my first day go better then what I've seen in this video.
I start tomorrow as a driver helper. Do anybody have any positive advice for me? I am thinking about being a personal delivery driver if I like this job. I hope my driver is not rude.
Latassha Doyle I know you have already started, but just learn their routine and follow the methods. As long as you're being safe and walking fast you're fine. Its very fast pace work but UPS is a very successful company with alot to offer. I've been drivin for 2 months now and love it..
@Cassa Miller yeah. Just let them know u wanna be full time. Are you driving at all yet? Easiest time to join in around this time. Ups needs lots of help for Christmas season.
Just finished my first, full day as a PSVD and I am whooped! 120 packages/ 7 hours. I can't move. Lol. How the hell do yall do this everyday for 20 years? Firefighting was easier. The Marines was easier! Lol. Love the dogs I get to meet. Handing out candy canes and folks are loving. I do hide things to well though.
I wouldn't mind if my delivery people were max-out-the-speed-limit, super efficient, every work day is a cardio-day, machines. Lmao I bet someone somewhere has an oversized basketball hoop to get their packages shot into from the street side.
@Cassa Miller very much possible, I was going to become a driver myself but I had to work at the warehouse until they needed another driver but this was pre-covid. Since then, i’ve been told they’re looking for drivers and hiring just about anyone. Just move fast and work well and you’ll be fine.
@@nickwick35 my friend and I applied to be a helper. My job “interview” or appointment is in four hours. Average min wage here in Texas is $7.25/hr. Is this job well worth it for $15/hr? I’m also a graduate (bachelors in marketing) is it possible to rank up with UPS or not really? We just thought it would be a good place to work cause in the spring Amazon is opening a warehouse here (1st major warehouse / company to come to our city) and thought it would be good experience to carry over? My concern is Covid. Like would this be a high risk job of getting infected? Or am I more at risk working at some store in a mall? Anyways sorry for all the random questions but I see you in the comment section of a lot of UPS videos, so I targeted you haha
@@sixpathjustin9672 It's the best job I ever had. I lost lots of weight, made tons of money and had an amazing friendship with my driver. If you prove yourself and work quick, you can easily become a driver. I currently am working with another company but my driver and I are in contact and he says when a driver position opens up, they'll hire me.
@@nickwick35 hi, started last week and I work in a small town as a seasonal preloader 4am to 9am making 14.50/hr, I've noticed they are always looking for driver helpers from 10am to 2pm and I'm thinking of asking to help. Do you know if that will be considered overtime since I heard anything after 5 hours is overtime? There is a sign up sheet in the office for driver helper and it says pay is 16.58 per hr.
Lmao....where is this fantasy land....my helpers are usually ex cons or crackheads....last yr my helper had to leave every day at 4pm for his methadone treatments
That UPS package car is empty...nice try. AS a driver and helper/driver trainer, you ALWAYS, Get their size and grab them a shirt, a jacket and baseball cap (rain). make sure they are wearing good shoes. teach them 1) entry and exiting the vehicle. 2) buckle up immediately upon re-entry of the truck before the truck starts moving. 3) proper and safe handling of the package. 4) proper placement (hiding or protecting the package from he public view). 5) safe walk path...avoiding possible issues, toys, dogs, slippery surfaces etc.
@@justxjrod3590 Im a helper right now making $14 an hour, working 29+ hours a week and the pay is honestly trash lol, the union fee and "initiation" fee was taken from my highest earning paycheck and they've been ripping me off for the past 5 weeks lol they tax damn near $100 from me each paycheck!
UPS is very bad in the hours it gives, per day only 3 hours to 4 hours they give you, on Saturdays they tell you that if you can work and you say yes, then after a few hours they tell you that they do not need the assistant drivers, that is to say Convenient work in any way. I do the work for 3 days and only in those 3 days they gave me 11 hours, it is a work scam, so they ask for helpers if they do not even make them work for at least 8 hours, the notice does not say part time either.
@@princemagee6026 keep getting text messages asking me if I'm available. I answer yes and I never hear from them. This is by far the most unorganized company I've ever worked for.
Ok not real. The stuff they tell you not to do is pretty much what your doing. Running. More than one package at a time . hopefully u get a reflection vest
