Very well presented and discussed. Informative and well described with accurate details. Looks very smart with the red exterior and biege interior combination. Having said that, the V8 badges and chrome guard mouldings indeed detract from an otherwise beautiful looking hardtop. I agree with the presenter that the tv series's "Dallas" and "Hart to Hart" did contribute to the success of the 107 series. Not only did these high status TV shows contribute to the success and longetivity of the the 107 series but it also contributed to the very strong resale value especially in the eighties where SL and SLC were often being sold for high prices than when bought brand new in the seventies. Not many cars could claim that achievement. Also, the peak year in sales was 1986---fifteen after the release of this shape. And this was achieved despite a continuous onflow of rivals with new designs and a hefty price tag. The SL and SLC were always going to be a classic

I owned one for 5 years in the same colour and upholstery as this one. Cast iron engine on my 450SLC meant it was bullet proof but it only did 7 mpg in London rush hour. Still, it was my favourite car and never let me down. Cruise at a 100 in style.

I have been told they make anywhere from 210 to 240 hp. They are really a sweet car. No real easy options for making more power besides going coil near plug and aftermarket EFI. Love wrenching on these old Bosch K jet v8 motors.

What made the the R107 and S107 so popular, cocaine. The SECs were cocaine, shoulder pads and hairspray. All kidding aside, I own a 73 350 sl silver on red and a 1983 380 sl in orient red over palomino The 380 is the better cruiser with the 4 speed auto but the 73 has its charm with the big MB stars on the hubcaps and the skinny bumpers. I think the R107s are great value for money and I can say that for a casual cruise, I often take on of my SLs out over my 2003 911 c2 Cabriolet. Thanks for the video.

It's mad the way an old car like that can look great at first and really nice and shiny but when you get down to it and have a good look under it you start to find shoddy repairs and something that was dickied up to sell. Nice old car though and for 56 euro a year and probably cheap insurance it is a nice old thing to drive about.

"A nice old thing to drive about, huh?" A few items were missed in this gentile presentation. The car with the 450 hp aluminum engine was scary to drive unless you were in accustomed to AutoStrade touring. The 450 SLC was meant to putter along for days at 120 MPH. I used to take it up to Nova Scotia and drive from Digby to The Keltic Lodge in Cape Breton- 375 miles in 4 easy hours. The car is deceptively long and heavy, built on the SL (Supra Langsam - Super Long) chassis. Friends would just have to drive it. However, the acceleration was so effortless that a tap to the gas and you would be going 60mph out of the garage. I loved this car. The major drawback was the extensive hydraulic system. Today, all the gadgets are electronically controlled, the 450 SLC was le grande complication of its day - with hydraulic lifters that moved the front seats forward AND tilted the front seatback forward for back seat passangers's ease of entry. The dual region comfort temperature controls were also hydraulically operated - making an other-worldly Whoossshhh as the temperatire regulator made minute adjustments.
