My daughter is in a professional makeup school, and she got to work as an assistant on a photo shoot. I was so excited that I posted a congrats on FB. She called me to tell me to take that down because it is not professional. So, I looked for a site to educate myself because I never want to be a hindrance to her career. I wanted someone to teach me what was ok and not ok, and I found your site. I am enjoying learning about the process from you--even though I am not the artist. You are fabulous. I am buying my daughter your book! Sorry to gush, but you are a breath of fresh air after skimming through teenagers in white cut off shirts calling themselves makeup artists and teaching people how to contour. lol Thank you for sharing your knowledge with newbies. Great women create great women.
Vicky, your daughter is so fortunate to have you. Thanks so much for using me as a teacher I am honored. You're right great women create great women--just look at you and your daughter. Much love Vicky. I will have more content coming this month. All the best DeShawn
Thank you so much for this video. Im just starting out and building my kit and I black opal was having a sale and I got a ton of their stick foundations!
Great advice DeShawn. I think we get too caught up in keeping up with the Jones so to speak. We see all these scopes and live this and that and what's in my kit and think that's what we have to get to be a pro. It's technique over product, it's that the catch phrase. You keep my feet on the ground lady.
Yes all of the new stuff can make you feel like you could be missing out. Well Im here to tell you look to Pro makeup--and you can't be sorry :) Thanks Jan
Hi, Deshawn you look gorgeous! I love the selection of products and I totally forgot about La femme blushes I will need to purchase a few colors, I want to ask you what do you think of the makeup geek eyeshadows? they fall in the drugstore category since they are cheap. I think drugstore makeup improved a lot but when it comes to eyeshadow I still have a hard time finding a good one. Thank you for all your tips xoxo
Thank you for this. I am going to switch and get shadows from Black Opal & Black Radiance. I have used them and they are highly pigmented. I now have to search for a good depotting video.
Tracy I was teaching my class and I was telling them you had to light them on fire and they were astonished lol They really are the blackest pencils every made.
Thank you so much, DeShawn! So glad I found your channel, it's very helpful for me in learning makeup industry. *p.s. I'll wait for your Urban Decay Naked Powder Foundation review because seems that you're all about it ;).
I am loving this soooooooooo much. I'm no pro but with your tips for the pros, I'm headed to get some professional blushes and foundations for my at-home kit. You need to open up a school or have a workshop for the non-professional. Man, I would take the Bolt bus from Philly back to my home town of NYC to be taught by you!!! I"m binging on your videos right now!!
Love your video. I got my eyeshadow palette from the beauty supply store. Really beautiful it's by Amuse Cosmetics. I also love Missy Lynn's eyeshadow palette, only $9.00 & the other one was only $5.00 I just bring two palettes with me.
Hello, I just happened to find your video and I really like your approach and pizzaz! If I may say though, all that you said was interesting to say the least and I do not think you need to edit yourself so much. You have a great style that is refreshing considering other famous youtubers. Love from France :0)
I'm a newbie and I'm building my kut with pro products from camera ready cosmetics. I bought the graftobian inclusion palette after finding you on RU-vid a few weeks ago. I love your honesty and appreciate the gems that you share. Im still in practice mode so ive been applying makeup on forever and family for free until I improve. Do you think I did use drugstore makeup while in office mode ir is it ok to use my graftobian, rcma, etc pro products?
Hey, Rachelle I honestly feel practicing with the pro makeup is far better than the cheap stuff. You will find out how it works across the board. You and that product will become one. You will also see how to budget yourself by the amount you use and so many other great things when you stick with the good stuff -- feel me ;) You got this and congrats on your amazing journey lady. Thanks for such a great question
I’m late but I’m hoping to get an answer from you I’m looking into buying the rcma foundation palette for my fair to light skin clients would you say that buying the black opal sticks foundation to depot would be a good brand to use on my tan to dark clients?
Heyyyy Breezy--youre never too late :) HHHHmmmm Im really thinking about this. I want to say yes to Black Opal and than I want to say no (so Libra) I do believe RCMA has darker shades--so why not just get them there? I do believe it may be a bit more economical to buy RCMA, Graftobian, Cinema Secrets all pro brands are good as well. BUT for some odd reason you just don't want to--then yes Black Opal is cool as well as Iman. I do believe Iman Cosmetics has more shades--but really whichever one you choose you should be happy. Good luck to you :)
DeShawn Hatcher thanks so much for responding , I guess it’s that I find the rcma and graftobian type of foundations a bit intimidating BUT I think I’m going to shoot for the rcma and graftobian palettes , do you think maybe one day you could do a video explaining the different techniques and other methods of using palette like the rcma and graftobian ?
Hey sure I can. I am right in the middle of doing video filiming/topic scheduling I can add that to this round of 25 videos for sure! I happen to love Graftobian I am biased lol I want you to think about it this way--how will you stop being intimated if you don't use it (wink)--ok. Hang in there you will do an amazing job with whatever you choose. New videos coming soon. Thanks so much for being a part of this channel. Makeup Artists Rule!
Thank you, Deshawn! Loved your look ...just fabulous and this video. You just made it plain and simple in know what and how you should invest your money in when it comes to our kits. I'm the same way in mindset that if I don't have to pay full price...I won't. Need to go back and take a more serious look at camera ready cosmetics webpage. Hope you enjoyed your time with your Boo! 👌🏾🤗
Hey--yes lady I had a very lovely dinner. He's really stepping up and turning into one hell of a boyfriend lol Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting lady!
You're such a gem in the makeup community !! I've appreciated so much watching all of your videos to help newbies! Thank you for sharing your vital information !! Nothing, but blessings your way !! Thank you !
I just found your channel and I subscribed right away! Thank you for this very helpful information and advice. I am currently struggling with creating lipstick palettes. With so many brands out there I just don't know where to start! I would like to see a video about that. (PS I LOVE LOVE LOVE my graftobian palettes, It was the first pro item I brought for my kit when I first started 2 years ago!)
Well Miss Jazlicious--I told you head on over to Maybelline, Loreal, & Revlon all really priced right and will last in your kit. OH I didn't say this in the video, but the reason why I love those brands is the lipsticks can last for years --some of the cheaper brands can go bad quickly. I will be happy to elaborate on a another video about lip colors.;) Thanks for stopping by and subscribing lady!😀😍
Def going to grab some La Femme Blushes! I need more! I love Black Opal foundation too. I use RCMA for my lighter tones and black opal for WOC. Thanks for sharing!
I loved this, I am still a fan of rimmel mascara and use it in my pro kit for editorial. Maq pro is my favourite foundation palette and colour range. Deshawn your a star for sharing. xx
