This was a request but I lost the email of who sent it, so if you did, just comment and I will pin your comment. My apologies!
Anyways, Bruford and Holdsworth were born to play together. This sounded like a lost UK track and I frickin love that.

On his YT channel, Bruford released an interview of Holdsworth recently that is illuminating of the recording process of the first two solo efforts. Alan was a hired gun for Feels Good where he played to the tracks that were already laid. That changed for the 2nd album which was more collaborative.

One of Alex Lifeson's top 5 favorite albums. “Feels Good to Me,” Bill Bruford‘s 1978 album, shows the drummer’s exceptional skill, compositional prowess, and enthusiasm to explore new sound areas. The album features an all-star lineup of musicians, including Allan Holdsworth on guitar, Dave Stewart on keyboards, and Jeff Berlin on bass. Together, they create a sound that is both complex and accessible, blending elements of jazz, rock, and funk into a cohesive and exciting musical experience. Bruford’s songwriting and arranging skills are on full display throughout the album, with each track taking surprising twists and turns and continually pushing the listener’s expectations. Bruford’s attention to detail is apparent in the album’s production, which allows each instrument to be heard clearly while keeping a coherent sound. The dynamic interplay between the players created by the balance of sophisticated arrangements and periods of improvisation keeps the music new and fascinating with each listen. Furthermore, the album was a critical and commercial success, earning praise from music critics and fans alike. The album’s innovative sound and complex arrangements were hailed as a new direction for jazz-rock fusion, inspiring a new generation of musicians to push the boundaries of genre and style. - Excerpts from MetalCastle and Metal Shout 2023

I love this song. I really love the ending when Annette Peacock just belts the vocals backed by Holdsworth contorted guitar lines. I also like Peacock's work on the smoky ballad Seems like a Lifetime Ago Pt. 1.

I saw Bill Bruford and Patrick Moraz do an acoustic Drums and Grand Piano set at a bar at the Univ of Pa back in the mid 70's around the time YES did Relayer, when Moraz was in YES. Bill is just amazing. Bill was a Jazz Drummer. As his solo works bare that out. Great Vid

If you've not done so, read Bill Bruford's autobiography. Amazingly, he's just as talented as a drummer, just as talented as a composer, and just as talented as a writer. No wonder he now has a Ph.D. in music. He's probably one of the smartest guys in the music industry. I had the honor of interviewing him twice. And if you REALLY, TRULY, MADLY want to be blown away, check out Bruford's live gig in BostonYou'll be AMAZED.

You should check out his Earthworks material, which could be considered his musical apex. There's also great material on the two Moraz/Bruford albums. I think you would enjoy Machines Programmed by Genes. Bridge of Inhibition, Thud, Pressure, and Emotional Shirt are all exemplary tracks from the first Earthworks album (though it's hard to go wrong with almost any track from that album).

People are mentioning Brand X, and rightfully so…. However perhaps the most interesting Brand X record was Marscape. It’s about leaving earth and going to Mars. Phil Collins, Percy Jones and Goodsall are here. It’s listed under the artist Lancaster and Lumley. You’d be the first on RU-vid to react to it.

Now - IMHO this song is one of the best of all Bruford recordings/compositions. There is so much passion in it, it makes a man (like me) cry. Let alone Allan Holdsworths guitar solo that breaks all dams, it is just splendid and not from this earth. I had the honor telling this himself after a show in my town. My other Bruford favorites are "Travels with Myself and Someone Else" and "Gothic 17". Another favorite BB composition would be "Men and Angels" from the Kazumi Watanabe sessions. Cheers!

Amazing tune, Bill’s amped-up take on spoken-word ‘be here now’ consciousness coupled with cascading Roto-tom rolls make this one of the album’s best tracks and maybe Annette Peacock’s best vocal on the album. The band Bruford actually rose from the ashes of UK’s personnel split, Bruford and Holdsworth not happy playing songs the same way every time vs. Wetton and Jobson’s more static approach. Thank heavens for ‘artistic differences’. Great reaction👍 your comment about the feel of the song being similar to a UK track was in many ways spot on. Bruford brought on board his engineer from Feels Good to Me for UK‘s first album. The production values between the two share a lot of similarities in how the sound is shaped in the mix. Big hats off to Stephen Tayler.

@gpg9516
@gpg9516 7 месяцев назад
@@JoFandangocorrect, by a matter of three months. But it was Bruford/Holdsworth’s more freewheeling jazz approach, solidified by their work together, that led to their decision(after leaving UK) to reassemble the core musicians for the One of a Kind lp that put the quartet ‘on the map’.

Annette Peacock is a polarizing figure amongst prog/Bill fans. She comes out of a jazz tradition and is sometimes compared to Patti Smith, but she has as many fans as those who wish Bill hadn't invited her to these sessions. YMMV.

Nicht schlecht, jedoch 'Beelzebub', 'If you can't stand the Heat', 'Either End of August', 'Feels good to me', Springtime in Siberia oder auch das überragende 'Sample and Hold' wären die weitaus besseren Stücke aus diesem phantastischen Debütalbum von Bill Bruford gewesen. Bei einigen dieser Stücke hätte man auch gehört, wie meisterhaft Bill Bruford Vibraphone spielen kann, das hätte dich sicher aus den Schuhen gehauen, das versichere ich dir. ☺ Heinz. 🌳🥀🌱✨
