Today we replace the battery in a 2016 Ducati Monster 1200s Here are some tools I use, 10mm bendy boy: amzn.to/3VUIJKb Same Brand - same size battery as original: amzn.to/42FeQQk (double check your own battery first though)
I agree to some degree, but making videos is also a business. Maybe by attracting more viewers, maybe by attracting more sponsors. The degree I do agree with is that his choice for content was not purely for entertainment but for making educational content as well. All the while other content creators simply dance in front of a phone with little to no clothes on.
This reminds me of a Chrysler car that I bought for my nephew. He needed a new battery but in order to get to the battery, we had to use a Jack, take off the driver's side front tire in order to get to the battery. Ridiculous location. Very informative video. Thanks Zack!!
My parents had that car! Well, it was a Plymouth Breeze, but same car. It was indeed an incredibly stupid place for the battery. Who puts a battery in the wheel well?! Chrysler, I guess. I've had cars where the battery was under the hood as expected, I've had a car where the battery was under the rear seats, my current car has the battery in the back. But in the wheel well was by far the dumbest place I've seen a battery.
Pro tip, if you don't ride that often, get lithium battery. They are a bit more expensive but they don't require constant tending and can last longer if you don't ride that often. Minus is that they require warm up with headlight on colder day and have half of capacity (for same power).
@@f-godz3342 From what I heard (a youtube example would be Snowcat and his Hypermotard) or a neighbour with his v4, Ducatis tend to have electric problems and very high fix & maintenance costs. Technically any bike would start up after two years with a fuel and battery swap, assuming the tank and lines aren't corroded. But you just generally have less issues and costs with a Japanese bike
Apart from mass centralization, I don't see why Ducati would make swapping the battery such a pain!! It's great that Zach found his way through (like he always does) :)
I love that this is how I discovered your channel what feels like 10 years ago when I was doing some maintenence on my S2R1000. It's wild to see someone I have followed since a couple of hundred subscribers to where you are now Zack! Glad you are still riding (ocasionally)
I am a teenager waiting to get my first vehicle bike. Grew up with your phone dissasembly and reviews , and didnt know you were a rider! That makes me love you more!!❤
Working on and riding motorbike bring joy to lives.:) I think all what Ducati need to do is to lengthen the positive wire so when you release the bottom plastic plate the whole battery comes out. Love your video.
Thanks Zack, you made that look really easy, I'm glad I don't have to ever wonder how to replace a battery on a ducatti monster, not that I even ride, but be careful of missing 10mm going missing, that I do know about, cheers from Melbourne Australia
Hi Zack. Long time viewer here. I've seen that bike in the background on some of your videos but I couldn't tell what make and model it was. Very nice bike! Thanks for the great content!
Thanks for taking the time to make the vid. I wouldn’t call it a nightmare it’s just a tad awkward as we say in the U.K. I’m about to replace mine so it’s good to see it done in a vid even though I have the workshop manual that also explains it.
Yo, nice to see you riding too, and i know Ducati makes some unnecessary complications to the regular easy tasks, however we still love them once they are on the move 😂 dry roads ahead fellow rider!
I launched a phrase several years ago when attempting to remove the starter motor of a JD tractor - the critters designed a cab to go on an old model forgetting the access required for the above and you have to make your own unique spanner!!! Phrase was, 'boys with laptops'!
I’ve needed an excuse to drive my truck up to Utah! How nice would like Ducati look in the bed if a Tacoma!?! One of the first videos I ever watched of yours was when you picked up your new Tacoma and added the lift to it- ever since I’ve watched every video!
Thought about getting a Ducati over my Suzuki GSX, but it didn't take much online research on reliability and maintenance to convince me they weren't worth it. Seeing this video confirms a lot of what I've read
Ride em off before you write them off 😉. I have a 2013 Monster 796 w/9k miles that I found for $4k and no issues on it besides the 7k miles service intervals, which is a relatively older models . The newer ones require them at 18k miles now. You'd have a good case for reliability and maintenance concerns with older Ducati's; with the newer ones, they're on par with the Japanese bikes. Maintenance is the same as my Kawasaki Z900RS Cafe. Lube the chains, fork oils, brake oils, tires, consumables, etc... They're just different bikes, most Japanese bikes are really smooth and precision and Ducati's are perfectly imperfect after trying them out. Really monstrous sometimes lol.
@@hyedefinition1080 yeah but how expensive are your services? My cb500f costs me about 250-500€ depending on which service it is, chain timing belt service is around 800 from what I heard. And in the past 5 years of riding it I's only done 3 services under 10'000km, other than fuel insurance and tax no other costs
cool looking bike im looking for my next bike whit a bit more power than my honda would u recemond the ducatie monster ? any feedback like maintenece, parts and touring comfort.
Hey, i have got a monster 821, bought an oem charger for it. Under the seat, there is a connector, to charge the battery. Once in a month just charge through it, or you can leave it, it has battery maintaining function.
As a ducati owner, it was very painfull to watch how you rubbed a dirt in to the dash... those are pieces engineering art and it is shame to see it in such a poor condition
Dress him up with nice traditional vesthi and silk shirt like a proper south indian with a thicc moustache 😂😂 the mental image is just absurd in my mind
I don't like Royal Enfields, they're like very budget Triumphs. Not saying Triumph is an amazing brand or anything. But you could get a Honda for similar or less money than an RE, and have the reliability.
The state that 1200S is in, makes me sad. Rubbing the display with all that crap on it, makes me even sadder 😐Other than that, thanks for the instructions! I guess there was nowhere else to put the battery. Be careful on the streets, ride safely!
I mean I get it from a weight/mass centralization and lower center of gravity, but yikes thats a whole bag of misery right there. You can tell it was designed by an engineer and not a mechanic. Thanks for the video. Ride safe!
BMW ducati and other european companies prioritize looks first performance maybe second then the rest, they try their best to discourage people to work on them instead bring it to the authorized dealer and charge a load in labour
Ducati has a funny way of packaging things, the 659 has the rear shock on the side of the bike/swing arm. i guess when they did a traditional center mount they forgot we'd normally sit on a battery
Knowing Zach, I assumed this was an electric bike and COMPLETELY overlooked all the ICE engine components until I saw how little the battery was. Then it hit me. DOH!
I heard Ducs were heard to work on but damn! Too bad the bike wasn't on a tender. Yuasa batteries are usually the OEM choice and last quite a while. After 2 years, you probably have some other services that should get done like swapping the brake fluid and doing an oil change. I only ride motorcycles(now riding an Energica).
This makes me think of changing out a lightbulb on my parents 2008 suburban. The correct way to do it would to have been to remove the inner fender liner, remove the windshield wiper fluid reservoir, and fully remove the headlight housing. Took over an hour to do it with just breaking out my dad’s and I’s knuckles fishing a new headlight bulb in. My 2005 Silverado, you literally twist the headlight out, pop it out of the socket, put a new one in, and twist it back in. It takes longer to open the door, pull the latch, and open the hood than it does to actually change out the headlight.
2:40 "If my metal wrench were to touch anything metal" *points to the plastic heat guard and painted metal frame* All jokes aside, thank you for contributing this kind of content!
The short story behind the story = Ducati aims to prevent bike owners from performing maintenance, leading to reliance on Ducati workshops, fostering a community and preserving high resale value. However, the reality is that bike owners in the US and UK prefer DIY maintenance, resulting in clashes shown in numerous Ducati HOW TO videos on RU-vid.
i thought you where changing an electric bike batteriy but thats only the classic starterbattery? why is it that complicatet? its even not possible to reach the contacts easy for charging or kickstart if battery is dead.
