I think the 2024 4Runner is the last chance to get a truck with old school Toyota durability.

I test drove a new Tundra but decided to buy a used 2021 Limited with only 4,500 miles on it . I’m so thankful I did .

I have the Titan and its a great running truck. Took it on many hunting trips with zero issues.

Just traded my 24 for a 19. Had multiple issues with it but the recall was the last straw.

I have a 2016 4Runner trdpro - I’ve got it up to 80,000 miles and I’m keeping it as long as I can - love it

Like me, you bought a 24’ TRD OffRoad after buying the Gen3 Tundra, so congrats to us. I haven’t yet given up on my highly recalled Tundra but for surely a short timer in my driveway.

About 6K miles on my 2024 Limited Tundra so far and no issues. Pretty happy with it overall...no problems!

I buy 2024 toyota tundra 1974 edition iforce max hybrid, I’m driving every day for my work driving to Oregon to Seattle every day. No recalls warning driving perfect no sounds. I’m happy. I feel so lucky for now 😅

Congrats…….We bought a 2023 4Runner PRO a year ago in anticipation of the end of an era. We have had zero issues and no regrets with the 4Runner.

Im sorry for your problems, and I'm happy to see the comments of people whose Tundras have been trouble free. Anyone paying that much for something deserves to be free of troubles with it. I have a deposit on a 2024 4runner because i dont want to be a Guinea pig for these " next gen" designs.

Good move! I did the same thing this week, bailed on my Tundra and am going back to a 4Runner I’ll be picking up next week. If not for the 5th gen 4Runner still available I probably would have bailed on Toyota altogether, for what I don’t know but the whole 3rd Tundra experience really toasted my 🏀 🏀. Traded my 2022 Tundra for a 24 4runner. I miss the way the Tundra drove.. but knowing that i have quality is awesome. I also made a video on my issues.

Bought a ‘24 4runner and never realized how fun a vehicle can be to drive!!!just hearing that big engine roar at startup and the stock TRD wheels and Grappler tires gripping the road and going over bumps with no problem, and being able to off road at whim is beyond belief. I don’t even care about speed anymore but just love this suv. Now i can go to my favorite camping and fishing sites without having to worry about ruining my suspension driving on bumpy dirt roads.

Its almost like Toyota sold you a test model from the field lab. I have a 24 Platinum TRD off road and the entire vehicle is beyond my expectations. I have been watching lots of You Tube videos including many of yours and I almost did not make this purchase because of the feedback from owners. I can honestly say the first 4000 miles have been much better than expected with my Tundra. I also own a 21 Tundra for work and the 3rd gen Tundra blows away the previous generations of Tundras. The problems you experienced are almost incomprehensible but I guess anything is possible with human built machines.

I am in your shoes! I got a 2023 Toyota Tundra SR 4x4, its the base model with zero option, however mine is experiencing the same issues with poor interior quality & general build quality. I am on the fence on what to do, my dealer leaves a lot to be desired and Toyota Corporate (here in Canada) I feel doesn't value customer service. This is my 2nd Toyota and probably be my last one at this point. I was going to go with the F150, but decided to go with the Tundra as I liked the style and interior better, in hindsight that was a mistake, I ride dirt bikes and quads, so I do need a truck, the midsize is tempting, but for me a full size if much more useful, If I trade it in, I think I will go with a Ford F150 with a 5.0, Good Luck with the new 4Runner and I can't wait to see the progress on it!

welcome to the 4runner family, i have a 2016 4runner trail with kdss that's decked out for overlandding and still is my daily driver, you might want to consider a pedal commander cause she could do with a bit more get up and go. other than that, this vehicle is a swiss army knife for anything you want to use it for. treat her right and she'll always bring you back. and trust me, there truly is something about driving these vehicles that is next to none. enjoy and be safe out there.

You made the best choice, Now, pay it off and keep it! I Bought the 23 4Runner TRD off Road Premium last year, In Lunar Rock! The lady's produce some kind of love hormone when they see it when it's clean! It's a joy to own, It will bring good money when it goes, I probably will go first!😇

I'm a Toyota fan, and I appreciate your honesty. This is a wake up call for Toyota, to build better quality, with reasonable pricing, like they use to be, and not the road they are going now. I will not buy the new 2025 4 Runner or the Land Cruiser until they have prove there reliability and adjusting there pricing. Or it will be Honda my next vehicle.

Sorry to hear of your troubles my friend but as my preacher father says sometimes… Don’t sacrifice the future on the altar of the immediate. You made a logical level headed move in buying a 4Runner one of the best built vehicles out there from the fabled Tahara plant in Japan. At least the new 4Runner will be built there as well. I bet you find the 4Runner quality to be a whole different world than that tundra

I took my 2nd gen truck in for diangostics at the dealership for some issues(rear wheel bearing needing replacement at 95 k miles). The tech told me that i wouldn't need to worry about these issues if i got a brand new 3rd gen tundra. Glad i kept the 2nd gen

I love my tundra 2022 tundra I brought it back for the recall and I hope Toyota can solve this issue I will not settle for anything less than a brand new crate engine

I understand what you say about the 2nd gen Tundra. I had a 2017 TRD PRO and I hated it! Toyota claimed it had a auto LSD in the rear differential and it doesn't. It cuts engine power and uses the brakes back and forth to find traction. Positraction is a must for me. That and the mpg made me get rid of it within the model year. I just couldn't afford the payment and keeping the gas tank full. Now to hear these 2nd generation Tundras are so much better than the new Tundra speaks volumes to me.

5th Gen 4Runner is an awesome SUV on frame. Good old Japanese quality! The only problem it has a very short base and is under powered for towing.. Towing - need a pick up truck!

We have a 2021 Tundra TRD Pro (my wife drives it) and we also just bought a new 2024 4Runner TRD Pro. We are pretty much set for vehicles for many years to come. We did have The Car Care Nut add a transmission cooler to the Tundra.

Picked up 24 sr5 premium to go along with my 2020 powerwagon,,love the powerwagon no issues but I know it won't out last the toyota.

I regret everyday that I sold my 2022 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium (OR-P) w/KDSS in Lunar Rock. I sold it because of the MPG’s since at the time I was doing Uber/Lyft. I now work at a dealership in the parts department as a delivery driver so MPG’s don’t matter as much anymore. I am really debating trading/selling my 2023 Tacoma ACLB TRD Off Road to get another 4Runner.

In what I've experience no matter what brand if they are made domestically it seems more inferior to some thing made in Japan, we are so close of copying China with regards to quality that is now the road we are heading to , it's all about company bottom line and making share holders happy

I have a 2018 tundra and a 2024 4Runner. I can't think of any other vehicles that I'd want to own.

Hope it works out. I did the exact same thing, but the 4Runner just ended up being too small, and despite it's tow rating it's struggles with our 3,000lb camper, so we're looking at a truck again. Going to have to go domestic I guess. Just looking at the forum's it doesn't seem like they are having nearly as many problems as the Tundra's.

I did the exact opposite I had a 2021 4runner with only 19000km and I just traded it for a 2024 toyota tundra sr5, I like my Tundra so far

2015 4Runner owner and considered a 2024 before they change them. My 2015 only has 176k miles, so I’ll probably just keep it another 5 years and find a used one.

Did they ever fix the wind noise or just the window rattle? If they fixed wind noise what was the solution?

Just because the Titan is discontinued doesn’t mean anything! It’s a great old school truck to keep for 10 yrs. Easy to work on if anything goes wrong and easy to maintain. Parts are easy to get as well.

I just got a 2024 trd pro,The sr5 are built cheap I noticed ,The issue going on is for the 22 and 23 models,I’m not going to lie,I really miss the sound of a V8 I had a 2019 tundra never had any problems,The damn government are forcing car manufacturers to stop doing them.

😂the fanboys that say you are complaining are the turbo junkies that came from some other manufacturers. The real fanboys want their v8 and reliability.

When you buy a vehicle, of any kind, you do expect that it will work properly. The higher the price, the more you should rightly expect better quality and durability. Those who are saying that you have blown these issues out of proportion, should remember that when issues surface on their new vehicle, they should keep their “complaints” to themselves.

I'm going to wait a year or two before buying any new Toyota, let the early adopters do the quality control. All the new cars have new powertrains (hybrid max), this is not a company known for coming out with new tech for a reason. I'm sure they'll figure it out, but the price of their new vehicles isn't worth just the honeymoon phase at the moment.

My 16 4runner has 210k on it. I’d get a new 24 before getting any of these new Toyota turbo engines. Or the gx460 v8

The 5th gen 4Runner is the last truly reliable Toyota truck that we will be able to buy in North America. I believe it will feel tighter and be more reliable than the new Land Cruiser 250 and the GX 550. They might drive smoother and have more power but they will feel cheap and full of plastic. I bought a new 2024 4Runner Off-Road in Canada and will keep it until I move south in a few years. Then I will buy a Land Cruiser Troop Carrier and keep it until I die.

and SUV with a landscape trailer will give you more functionality than a truck. You can get a 5x10 steel trailer from tractor supply for about $1,000

I cannot see how these Tundras are not going to plummet in value like nothing else. Seems like it's not just engine problems. It's everything that the truck is made of problems.

I am a Toyota guy but couldn't buy the 2022-2024 Tundra after test driving multiple year's. New Tundra is just so cheap feeling and not well built. Bought a 2024 Silverado after my 2021 Tundra. Silverado feels so much more solid like my past 2 Tundra's.

Unfortunately these are all issues of American Made truck... I had similar QC related issues with the Ford Bronco.

Agree with the move to a reliable vehicle but you’ll be struggling to tow that trailer. Especially if you’re in the mountains.

Good luck. You’ll regret the 4Runner if you do lots of highway driving for hunting, camping, and family road trips. The 4Runner is reliable but it’s not comfortable or solid on the highway. Always getting blown and pushed around on the highway by air drifts from semis and other fast rolling trucks, not to mention Mother Nature and windy days. That’s why I ditched the 4Runner for my 2023 tundra and no issues with my tundra. I’ll take my chances with Toyota and the new Tundra, like anything it’s not perfect but it sure is better than the 4Runner.

The Toyota of yesterday is gone. Even the new 6th Gen 4Runner that is set to go into production is going to be based off the new Toyota engine and drivetrain platforms. The reliability and QC just isn’t there.
