@@eyesonmirages the top comments say this felt like 10 minutes which means this is boring as shit. Unless u know about the books then this trailer reveals nothing nor peaks any interest in most
I was highly skeptical about a Dune movie remake. However, this trailer shows huge promise. If you haven't read Frank Herbert's Dune (and the other related novels), do so before watching the movie. This is a movie set in a grand universe with a huge history and depth. No movie can capture it all, so I expect it to jump major parts of the book as the original did. Hopefully it will stay more accurately with the book though. This isn't a Star Wars type movie. It's more of a rich SciFi drama with a few action scenes.
True. Frank Herbert has very specific style of writing - you either love it, or close the book and never return after few pages. I am both sceptical and excited. I love Lynch's Dune from 1984. He managed to tell the story with all the dark atmosphere and thoughts, literally. Also TV miniseries Dune and Children of Dune (2000 / 2003) were good as well , even they were not so dark and perverse - in Herbert's style :) I hope that I will see enough of Frank Herbert's plans in the plans of other plans in this movie. Not just special effects in familiar universe with familiar characters.
I mean.. come on. There were like 5 movies about that already. None of them were really good. Lets appreciate that the story isn't all that good. Perhaps it's time to move on.
They don't really need to tell anything about the story, they could have just said they were making a Dune adaptation. Dune is an old book that is very influential.
I read Dune in 1982. I never thought any production company would be able to create the imagery necessary to do the book justice...until now. This version shows promise.
@@xx-bg2dj I also read Dune back in early 80's and could not put it down. The 84 film was good but there is no way that you can capture the book in 2-3 hours in a film. Book is a masterpiece and like the Matrix should be made into parts, maybe 3 movies. Now that would of been something. Can't wait to watch the movie.
@@Memo-nd6fj Something tells me that they will be doing a parts 2&3. I was at Barnes & Noble a few months back, and they had a graphic novel adaptation to the story, BUT it was in the scenery you see here with Timothy Chalamee and cast. It's titled Dune: Book One. So it makes me a little curious as to if books two and three will be their own movies as well.
@@serpentismaThere is nothing worse than going to watch this movie only to find out at the end there will be a second part that we will need to wait 4 years for like they did with Matrix!
@@Memo-nd6fj Hopefully it doesn't come to that. If they DO do a sequel, it hope it wouldn't take 4 years, and instead one year after the next like with LOTR. God knows I've already been waiting 7 years and a pandemic just for this one to come out lol
I saw the original film in the old Columbia Theatre on Peachtree Street in Atlanta and I remember EVERYTHING about that day. It is still in my top 5. I can't wait to see this film. I am ALL IN.
@@PorcheGardener It might have to do with the fact there are actors that are in either in DC or Marvel movies. And I already knew that it was a series of books and the possibility stands that the others know this as well.
The DUNE universe SO deserves a series!!! A real one, with a top budget. I can't wait to see the movie, of course, yet there is so much amazing content in the books that we all know the movie can only really scratch the surface of.
A Dune movie is something that is extremely easily to screw up and extremely difficult to do right. I don't get my hopes up, but I do wish they succeed.
@@NoneofyourBusiness-iv6pi: "never been 'into her' but she [DOES] looks stunning in this" - Yes: Watched EACH ep. of "Euphoria." Sumthin-else goin on here, fam.
Chills. I have chills. I read the book for the first time after watching this trailer, then I read it again. What a story. What a trailer. This is going to be epic.
I recently listened to the audio book of Dune. It's crazy how from watching all of the scenes in this trailer I knew exactly what parts of the book they were taken from - even who the characters are.....this is a good sign :-) Can't wait till this movie drops.
Covington -- Granted, not nearly as many people who consume this movie will look beyond to its source material. But a ton of humans who otherwise wouldn't have, will end up reading at least a bit of Frank Herbert's brilliant brain-food...perhaps a bunch. Either path is a win, Usul. %-)
I loved the book when I was 17 and should have been reading Austen. Now I wonder where my taste was. Not that it's a bad book or anything, but there's a difference between a Sci-Fi classic and just a classic. The Day of the Triffids for example is both, ditto Brave New World. Dune not so much.
@@S0ulinth3machin3 Really? I'd read Dune before seeing the film, and eventually read them all. I was not at all disappointed by Lynch's version. I hope you like the next attempts.
@@barryschwarz it's all subjective. If you like it, you're not wrong, if I disliked it, I'm not wrong. BTW, Lynch himself didn't like it, which was weird. He refused to talk about it in subsequent years. Thanks for hoping that I like the next one. I will say this: it looks very promising and I hope that we all love it.
I remember watching the old movies for this. Didn't realise there was a remake in the works. I started reading the books too, it's pretty good!! The whole world in this universe is so interesting. Highly recommend either the books or the older movies.
When I first watched this trailer I thought it was cool. Since it was delayed due to covid I read the books, too curious and impatient. I see now, re watching the trailer, just how faithful this adaptation is. You aren't told who anyone is other than Paul but its clear from the castings and roles just who everyone is. I am so excited for this to finally release. My only fear is that there is a lot that happens in the first Dune book (technically three books) and I don't think that will fit into anything short of a Lord of the Rings style trilogy..
go watch the movie on Netflix (the 1984 version not the early 2000's remakes) and then tell me this looks good from just seeing the trailers? It is horrible horrible horrible.
AFAIK it will have several parts, which I find plausible as the Muad'dib was never shown with melange eyes. So it seems that it will end somewhere before Paul drinks Water of Life.
One of my top 5 all time favorite movies. I have seen both the 80's version and the sci fi version as well. I think the last time I was this excited to see a movie was Independance day.
@@patrickricciardi332 true, except that the first Dune book was published in '65, 31 years before the first book in A Song of Ice and Fire. In fact, the first Dune movie was made 12 years before the first Game of Thrones book.
wow, just watched the old/original version 2 months ago (my husband watched it when he was 16) and I stated that I felt truth of our history in this movie, but it needed to be 'updated to express the story in a more non-subjective way. And now I come across this trailer!! There is a reason for this movie to come out in these times once again, giving thanks!
if you're curious, you can read the book or watch the 80s film. Just a tip for watching the 80s ver though, its got a lot of soft vocals and whispering soooo if you find that soothing you might find yourself falling asleep.. It took me multiple times to get through the film because of that.
Go, Go, Go ... To all those people that read ... !!! It's difficult for some director's to envision, certain concepts -- if they're smart enough to read any of the sci-fi books, ahead of shooting the first scene. A case in point: Ridley Scott in making "Blade Runner", it was so close to my heart because of Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep". Nobody, back in the 80's, understood concepts like; simulated worlds in the Matrix (1977), the holographic universe, simulacra, manipulated time dilation, genetic engineering, cybernetics, and he essentially invented by heavily influencing the psychology and science of altered-thought, thought manipulation, and memory implantation. It's difficult enough to get people to read more than 2 lines of text, as it is anyhow and RU-vid has proven this fact.
And they seem to know when to adapt elements of the books rather than blindly following it. Like the blade-combat that requires slow attacks due to shields but would look really silly on the big screen lol And I expect we won't be seeing the rather ridiculous concept of marching troops across a mountain range recently blown open by nukes :)
Agreed. In fact, that is about the ONLY thing that gives me hope. I found the David Lynch attempt to be god awful; the Syfy miniseries to be slightly better. It is nearly impossible to portray more than a fraction of the concepts of this series on screen without resorting to lengthy exposition.
His previous work has been excellent, and I read an interview with him a while back where he said he was acutely aware of how important it was to not fuck it up. That bodes well.
Can't wait for this movie version to come out! I have been a longtime fan of Frank Herbert's Dune series. I first read Dune back in the late '70s and all of Herbert's other books in the Dune series except for the ones written by his son. The 1984 movie was so-so, but the novel is so detailed and deep with nuances, themes and ideas that it was difficult to translate it to the silver screen. We'll see how this version does. So far, the advancements in CGI will obviously be the big hit here..the storyline is to be seen.
I love the Dune universe and i've been waiting a good while for this movie to come out, also wonder how it will compare to David Lynch's depiction. "Long live the fighters!"
So far, I've enjoyed two (well, including Children of Dune, three) attempts at telling the Dune story. Each were very different, and each was fun to watch. Hopefully this one follows the trend.
Interesting seeing so many iconic lines from the Dune books (and the previous movie and series) redone like this. I've been a Frank Herbert fan for a long time and this looks like it is well-made. I just wish someone would move past the first book of the series and show us some more weird awesome stuff.
I watched this trailer so many times, can't wait to seeeee the movie 🙈 the book is amazing and Dune world looks so much better on the screen than i could imagine
Hollywood is going for a record to see if they can actually reboot every classic 80’s movies, songs, and tv shows now because they have no talent to create new things anymore
This story actually deserves a do over. The 80’s version was trash. The syfy version was more accurate but had no budget. From the looks of this trailer it’s spot on. There is nothing wrong with a good remake.
Wendy Thomas I might agree with you on Dune it was not really that great of a movie. I would not agree on the remakes of tv shows and movies such as Magnum pi, Mcgyver, A team, Miami Vice, Hawaii five o, It, Pet Semetary, Nightmare on Elm street . You can better perfection!
I disagree where this film is concerned. First off a remake was already made of Dune previously. Second, given the shear scope of the books there is always room to revisit this and make it live action.
christina113704 They’re not copying lines they’re sourcing the book material. “I must not fear” section is a litany in the book. Perhaps read the books first before passing judgment (or commenting)
I was literally like, ok, they're going to say it, eeek....um, now's a great time....guys, here is the spot right here....last few seconds last line I'm sure of it....and then nothing.
@@macdeus2601 Yeah I was. Trailer looked good and it looked like it had "book" energy 😂. I can't watch a movie without reading the book first. So thanks I'm going to look into it.
FINALLY, a generation grown up on this book is on the captain's bridge! Anywhere I look in this trailer there's high respect for the book, the story, the Dune Universe, it's everywhere from the big picture down to the last details. All my trust is in these people. Please PLEASE don't disappoint me! Please give my all-time favourite book the true movie representation it deserves!
'I must not fear, fear is the mind killer'. Was such an iconic line. They only showed a bit of this...only two sentences...its actually longer than that. 😭😭
