dunkey really dropped the ball on this one, normally dunkey nails it every year but i'm shocked that he couldn't see that super mario bros 2 is the game of the year
I know it's controversial but I'm gonna say what's already is in everyone's mind and don't have the courage to say it. I know it's taste is subjective and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However there are certain things that is just clearly better, you don't go around saying a 5 year old drawing is better than monlisa just because taste is subjective.
2023- Dunkey becomes a Father. Game of the Year: Super Mario Bros 3. 20 to 30 Years Later- Dunkey becomes a Grandfather. Game of the Year: Super Mario World.
I’m so glad that you mentioned Like a Dragon. That was the best time I’ve had with a turn based rpg in a very long time. I loved every minute of that game.
I can’t believe it. I really can’t believe it. Dunkey, you’ve changed. You’ve lost sight of what matters most. I’ve been a loyal fan watching for years, I came to trust you and what you stand for, and this is what I get in return. I feel sick, I feel betrayed, I feel like I don’t know what to believe anymore. In spite of all of that, I guess I really can’t hold it against you and I can’t blame you, I understand that people change after they have kids, but I just really never thought I’d see the day when Super Mario Bros. 2 didn’t win game of the year.
The way he describes SF6 feels like a snapshot of the FGC. Simultaneous nonstop hatred combined with obsessively playing for hundreds of hours with no intention of quitting.
@@matthewjenkins7258nope. I never could afford the luxury of a full priced Pokemon game. Especially after it's ninth half of a game. Y'all can have at it
@@starsturck2701 Street Fighter 6 is an amazing game though (easily the best fighting game this year), it's just that Capcom made some real stupid decisions regarding monetization.
I havent watched dunkey in a very long time but I saw this in my recommended and clicked. Seeing Mario 3??? at the end of the video hit twice as hard as it should have but it took me way back. Thank you for the memories dunk ❤
i like chill and or relaxed and or tired af dunkey a lot . the calm vibes of this video are stellar i needed them so much. thank u dunksto for delivering when i need u most
Having a child really changes a man. He grows, he matures, he learns to accept new challenges, while also accepting your shortcomings, and it's amazing to see that all reflected in Dunkey finally recognizing Super Mario Brothers The Lost Levels as the game of the year.
@@enzog1078 I believe his exact words were, “you’re being an idiot to me right now.” That was one of my favorite Dunkey videos and even my sisters who don’t really like video games quote it all the time.
I loved the nuanced analysis of Baulder's Gate 3! I acutally didnt expect Dunkey to include the game at all, so it was a pleasent surprsise to see him cover it in such an in-depth manner and with so such high praise.
@@Videogamer96_ (it's a joke about dunkey quitting youtube and being replaced by a voice-alike, which is a joke because a lot of old school youtubers called it quits this month)
Thank you dunkey, I woke up to this and almost had an aneurysm at number 12. Me and my friends have been playing raise a peter non-stop for the past month
2:30 I love how when Dunkey praises the music in a game, he gives you space to actually LISTEN to it. So many youtubers don't do that, and it's crazy to me.
I definitely agree, but then again most games don't have the soundtrack Metroid Prime does -Prime has environmental music that is INSANELY beautiful and atmospheric, such that it draws you into the immersion magnificently. What kind of ANY kind of cretin would/could bring up Prime, specifically, without mentioning the music? I don't want to meet that person.....lol
I got a voice acting background and have to say that Yuri Lowenthal's voice has been such an inspiration for me since the Prince of Persia Trilogy. His performance in Spidey 2 is amazing. The vocal training was really tough, sometimes without noticeable results for months but actors like him and the late Kevin Conroy are a great impulse to not give up. You almost saw me as Leon in those new RE games :)
My favorite moment from Tears of The Kingdom has to be when I found the tower surrounded by mud and I was just strolling around taking in the view seeing how things had changed, and while walking I very casually picked up a rock, tossed it into the mud, used rewind time on it, jumped on it, and quickly jumped again landing softly on the other side, basically treating it like a stepping stone as it came back out of the mud, all while moving at the same completely relaxed pace. I've never been so fucking immersed.
He mentioned spiderman 2 with other Sony sequels as playing the first one just better so I'll take that as a compliment. No mention of baldurs gate 3 tho lmao
And this is why I watch key reviewers like you. The variety of the choices and reasoning behind it. There is always a game skipped or never heard of to try because of another perspective on it.
Just for those who are curious about this great list, here it is: 0:14 Lies of P(eter) 0:42 Spider-Man 2 (with the pizza mission) 01:07 Diablo 4 01:28 Octopath Traveler II (but he didn't play it) 01:37 Starfield with mods 01:58 Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name From His Books? 02:15 Armored Core VI (the pilot turns out to be a girl) 02:42 Theatrhythm Final Bar Line 03:23 Chris Pratt (he's so cool) 03:38 A game that is better than Gollum? 04:11 Star Wars Jedi: Survivor 04:51 Pikmin 4 (this one is real good) 05:16 honorary mention: 3!?
FINALLY. I've been waiting 30 years but FINALLY, Super Mario Brothers 3, the underrated hidden gem of the franchise, is FINALLY getting the recognition it deserves.
dunkey broke his own rule of "if its a mario game, its game of the year" which is probably a hint as to how good the three games above the mario game are
The payoff on a running gag you only really get to do once a year is phenomenal. Big ups to that GOTY for finally getting up off the bench and coming out to bat. Way to go!
I'm as surprised as Dunkey, I never thought I'd see Super Mario Bros. 2 lose the top spot. Anyway, this was definitely one of the best years for games, especially for Nintendo. Tears of the Kingdom, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Pikmin 4, aka the best, all some of the best titles they've put out in recent years. And I hope next year will be even better.
@nobodyurso6867 he has a video of persona 5 tho. No video of baldurs gate 3 at all. Persona 5 was stylish and unique in terms of art style. I just think baldurs gate didn't appeal to him and that's fine. Not everyone has to like everything
he HATES rpg with a passion. though i could agree i cant seem to play rpgs other than Atlus' Shin megami tensei and persona series 😂 and baldur's gate looks so fucking boring to me
Let me guess, another one of those comments typed up as quickly as possible without watching the video so that it can be early and get likes in order to be at the top...
@@FrawgfithAmblose Just because you only think people interact for Reddit karma doesn't mean they actually do. Imagine beefing with a neutral/positive comment on a Dunkey video
The fact that you used Street Fighter 6 music for your outro should be definitive proof that SF6 has the best, most dynamic soundtrack of the entire year.
Having a child has truly changed Dumkey. Just last year and every year prior, Super Mario Bros 2 won game of the year every time. It was like clockwork. Then Dubk has a kid and suddenly, BOOM! Super Mario 3. Can’t wait to see what other grand revelations Dinkis has after becoming a father. Bravo, Vince!
The SF6 breakdown is so accurate and real. At its core it’s still street fighter so I’m probably gonna sink like 300 more hrs into it. But it goes to show that if the core of the game is good enough it can be riddled in so many painful flaws that would be death sentences for other games
Thank you dunkey for helping me form an opinion. My game of the year was Baldurs Gate 3 but now that I realized raise a peter is better because of this list, my game of the year is now Family Guy.
When I saw Raise a Peter as the first game, I thought this was going to be a joke ranking.... it wasn't. It was seriously one of dunkey's favorite games of the year. Well deserved
I got Prime remastered mainly because I fell in love with the exact score Dunkey played. When you're floating under water and let loose a couple missile at an enemy, the way it seems as of the missles move slowr, still locked on their target with that music in the background? It's a beautiful thing
You know Dunkey has built a genuinely great community when 99% knew already that BG3 wasn’t going to be on this list. When I saw this video I was like, ain’t no way this man of Puerto Rican descent is gonna play a click to move, turn based, tabletop game. It was my number 1, but hats off to you Dinkley.
Gotta say I’m happy to see Dunkey also enjoys SF6 (or at least he spent a lot of time hating it) Modern mode is the Santa gift for me to be able to finally properly play a fighting game, I am super happy and thankful for it. I’ve been wanting to play fighting games for more than 10 years but I simply couldn’t because I suck at classic control. Turns out a lot of my friends also started playing SF6 because of the modern control. Now that I’ve spend a fair amount of time enjoying SF6, I may even start to learn the classic control. Or maybe I won’t, who knows. To me, SF6 is a revolutionary game. Great work Capcom!
just bought the entire mainline yakuza series, a little over halfway through 0. most fun i've had since red dead 2. gonna spend the rest of my year with this series.
