This is a great video brother, keep up the strong work. I would only offer this. I just got done changing my tranny fluid recently. Per the GM ATF fluid change procedures your supposed to get the temperature of the transmission fluid between 167F - 176F. Idling the truck alone will not achieve this temp. In order to achieve these temperatures, you are supposed to, 1) with your foot on the brake and the gear lever switched to drive, press the gas pedal no more than 10 seconds on and 10 seconds off. Don't allow the RPM to get above 1500. Within 5-10 minutes you will achieve these temperatures. Once those temps have been achieved, put the vehicle in park, remove the transmission pan plug, not the fill plug and allow excess ATF fluid to drain. Once the stream of ATF fluid has stopped then you are at the correct fluid level. Outside of this, great HOW TO video!

could you also get the exact amount of fluid that was removed, and put that exact amount back? i did this with my toyota recently and im preparing for when i have to do this with my chevy

Thanks for the vid, but the plug on the side of the case is not for level. Fill until fluid comes out of the plug/overflow pipe in the pan. There's a great view of the overflow pipe in the pan at 9:15 in the video.

Its worth mentioning that you also have to have the engine running before you open the level check plug on the bottom. When the pump kicks on during operation it slightly lowers the level of the fluid. When it is off you will drain too much fluid. Also GM Service manual states that this should be done when the fluid is between 167F and 176F for the correct fluid expansion. They suggest idling at 2500 RPM to achieve this fluid temp.

@@anthonysigman6138…the reason for these temperature parameters is the Allison 10 speed is equipped with an internal thermal bypass valve.

I drained all fluid and dropped pan. I added 10 qts to new pan. Started truck and ran temp up to 171F and then shut off. I removed 10mm drain plug and about 1.5 quarts drained out. According to GMC service bulletin I should have added 13 qts while the truck was running (enough to come out of fill plug) and then got truck up to temp. Then removed the drain plug and let it drain until it stopped.

Sounds like a better way to do it!

Yes, doing the drain plug after truck is up to temperature is correct way. This guy and many others are using the fill plug for the check plug and their transmissions now have too much fluid in them.
@alwaysandy1
@alwaysandy1 3 месяца назад
@@shanebrown2963 you're right, and i drove around like this for almost 8,000 miles. I tow very heavy as well with the truck, if you watch any of my other videos. i did just recently pull that plug out of the bottom of the drain pan, and a little over 1 quart came out. Seems fine so far

do that means GM overfilled it out of the factory since fluid was cold and some of it came out of the plug?
@barronmclemore7511
@barronmclemore7511 2 месяца назад
@@vicenteochoa6498No. The trans when off has pan capacity plus everything that’s drained down. That check level plug on the pan is to be opened when at operating temp and allowed to drain until just a drip. Once that’s achieved fluid level is at spec.

Watch for stretched pan bolts. About half of mine were stretched by the factory. I could feel the bolts trying to ring off well before 10 N-m...about half the required torque. I've seen these one-time use bolts before on my GMs. BTW, GM wants $7.25 per bolt.

Do you need to replace the gasket or can you reuse the original one?
@alwaysandy1

Good question! You can absolutely reuse the original one. It’s such a small amount of torque used on the pan bolts that the gasket doesn’t deform at all
