Dynaudio Special 40 and Triangle Comète 40th owner here. I've been quite interested in the Argon 3S and the Two18 speaker from Amphion, because well, they are of similar stature. I have not heard any of the Amphions; yet. 1. Bass aside, the way you describe the Argons seems similar to my Triangles: wide sweet spot and additional details up top; delicate sounding speaker. In one of my rooms, the Triangles work better than the Dyns. 2. I've tried AHB2 mono blocs with my Dynaudio Special 40 and my experience largely lines up with yours: they scale up with more power and quality gear, especially the soundstage = large improvement. I'm looking forward to auditioning either the 3S or the two18s soon. I'm not sure what the difference is between the two speakers, but so curious to discover the Amphion sound. The two18 are build with as flat as possible frequency response because they are studio speakers, extremely accurate and I believe build for a sitting distance of around 2meters. The 3S are a bit more musical as I like to call it, bit more emotion and since they are room friendly, you van play pretty easily with the placement

@@dimachesebastian6407 Closer Acoustics OGY or Nola Speakers Boxer S3. Both highly sensitive speakers. Get a Yamaha integrated amp with a loudness control knob (most of their models have this, but double check).

First time viewer; instant subscriber -- thank you for your channel! I'm hearing a lot of good things about the Amphion Argon series but it's less clear that they're a good overlap with my needs. On the one hand I'm a big fan of PRAT -- I owned a Naim Nait 5i for years and I still miss that thing -- but these days I listen mostly off-axis, at low to extremely low volumes, and almost exclusively small ensemble, hotel-bar jazz like Cedar Walton Trio and Cyrus Chestnut and Beegie Adair. I don't need good imaging and I don't need deep bass extension. Might the Amphions be a good choice, or is there something better for those needs?

This type of listening plays to the argon’s strengths, you should try and get a set on loan to see if they work for you.

I've had 4 pairs of the SP40 (the newest one is just 3 days old, so still being burned in), but never at the same time. So you coud say I'm on-and-off with them. Do you experience any sound fidelity difference between the MK' and the MK2? Some say the crossover and the midbass driver have been updated. Also with my new pair I experience some resonance on male vocals. I tightened all screws but it didn't completely go away. Do you have any idea what that may be?

Hi George. All drivers mk1/mk2 should be exactly the same, this includes crossovers. Nothing was changed from an electro/mechanical standpoint, just cabinet finishes. Did you experience sonic differences, then? Ref your resonance issue, I would email Dynaudio about it. Whilst a few reports have suggested an amount of resonance from the special Forty cabinet, I've never found it to get in the way and have often found the cabinets help with reinforcing the realism of certain frequencies. If your speakers have an obvious frequency-specific resonance, I'd say ask them about it.

Yes, although I would be tempted to try one of its half-bung's to tune any bloat in the room.

Hi - new subscriber to the channel here 🙂 Like most of us, no way I have the budget for "reference level" amplifiers. I've watched your reviews on the "entry level" Hegal amplifiers after hearing the H120 with the Argon 1 at this years Bristol Hi Fi Show. Also saw but not heard the Dyn special 40s which look great. In your experience what real world (comparatively priced !!!) Intergrated amplifiers would drive either of these speakers properly please? 🤔

What sort of budget are we looking at, Andrew? I might be a bit mixed up with your request, are you looking for amplifiers that compare price-wise to the Hegel H120?
