This video may help you if your Dyson ball brush is not going round.. 9 times out of 10 its the brush motor, but its better to be sure before ordering replacement parts.
This was super helpful. Thank you. Like others I had no idea there was a reset switch. Made me happy and now have a fully functioning DC24 again ; ) Thanks again ; )
Perfect! Thank you problem solved. Who knew there was even a reset switch? Well, we do now! Very grateful for clear and concise instructions. Wish I lived in the Maidstone area.
Thank you for your candid help, I had checked the roller for debris, and free rotation but, I didn't know about the reset, thank you , I really appreciate your help
Thank you from me too. Not sure what was wrong but followed your tutorial, cleared a lot of fluff from each side of the brush head housing using tweezers, put it back together, pressed the reset button (didn't know what that was before) and it works again. You gave me the confidence to try for myself.
Ace! Thankfully, the reset button did it for me! Thanks for posting this video. Instructions lost a long time ago, thought it was the motor and would not have thought to check the button :)
Thank you very much my friend, it never worked since I bought it. what I had to do is to press on the red button in the brush side. then it works only when you tilt the wand handle...
Just fyi before doing the a/c test keep in mind that in the US the standard a/c current 110 volts. In the United Kingdom it looks like their standard current is 230 volts. So in the US you are looking for 110-120 volts when doing the test. Stupid me took me a few minutes to figure this out.
This was my first thought when watching this vid, knowing there was a difference I verified the values first. I still have not discovered why the carpet brush will not spin on my unit but I have already rebuilt the power switch.
I have this issues with mine. Dismantling it I found a resistor to be burned out on the motor control board. R 1. this is a common fault. The resistor value is 2.55 ohmes. (2R55). Hard to find in single quantities Ebay is probably the best source .
I had an issue with brush head not spinning, turns out one of the wires was severed providing power to brush head. There are two wires ( a red & a white ) going to head unit visible when you remove the right side access panel. I spliced the wire back together and power is now restored.
My brush bar suddenly stopped working, but if when it's running I give it a helping by turning it the bar will then start spinning. If I put the head on to the carpet it then stops, as if it's not got enough power when it's got the resistance created by being pushed up against the carpet. When I run it over my less thick door mat the bar works (after I've given it the helping hand of freeing it up to spin). One thing I think I did a few weeks ago was hoover the bathroom and there were some spots of water from the shower on the floor, I am now wondering if some of the dust had possibly turned to a mud like consistancy and is maybe stopping the spindle of the motor going round properly? I CERTAINLY WONT BE DOING THAT AGAIN!!
Great diagnostic video, thanks. Mine has 250v, the motor spins and the brush goes round, but any resistance i.e. carpet, it stops. The belt seems tight on the mechanism. Do you think the motor is passed it ?
So I did the voltage test and got ~117 v AC. Voltage drops from 117 to around 12v AC when the brush motor switch is engaged. I am going to check the set of the contacts to make sure it is not a problem there, and perhaps clean up the wiper contact in the hinge, but then I am possibly stuck. At what point do I assume it is just the motor and replace?
hi there it seems my DC24 doesnt have the reset button.also there was an electric spark in the head while hoovering after which it stopped rotating.any thoughts?fuse?burned motor? thanks
Am in UK. Cannot get red reset button to stay depressed! Any hints? Have tried the 'rubber on the end of a pencil' and it still won't engage/click into place.
Unless it has tripped the button doesn't 'stay in' as it's already 'in'; but you can press it further. Need to check it with a meter after stripdown and probably will find that it is making contact ok. Check for burnt out parts on the pcb and that the motor is OK with a resistance of around 400 ohms across the brushes.
can anyone advise me please? my brush bar will rotate when I tilt it off the ground but once it comes into contact with the carpet it stops spinning? do you think this is a motor problem or something else, any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.
heather Murphy hi I decided just to buy a replacement brush bar motor head off ebay and it fixed it so the old one must have just been knackered! this is the second one this has had the first one broke under warranty so was free to replace! 😕 but at least it's working again.
i called them and they walked me through trouble shooting turns out I had a penny stuck where I couldn't see it. great customer service I'm glad it's working again for you! I cannot live without mine as I have three dogs and two cats as well as three kids !
