I like playing with new toys so when I purchased the DC41 a few weeks ago, I went through the entire house and had to empty the canister 3 times. This was 3 days after our cleaning company had been in. I was amazed and disgusted at the amount of hair and dust our old vacuum left behind. Our cleaning company has been instructed to leave their vacuum in the car and use our Dyson from here on out. The one negative about the Dyson is all of the plastic, that has me worried over the long run.
ive a dc27 animal and this is a good example of what a regular vacuum does not suck up. i done the same...... vacced the carpet with the old one, a dyson, then went strait over with the animal.... Jesus, it was amazing how much more it had pulled out. so unclefreddie70 i think you will find this was what they sucked out after their previous vac had just been over it.....
I think the funniest thing about all the vacuum arguments is, how often most people REALLY use their vacuum. Any vacuum will work great IF YOU USE IT OFTEN ENOUGH! I know people with expensive vacuums that sit in the closet, and argue about how great their $1000 vacuum is. But they don't use it. So the house is dirty! Bags, bagless, they all work. How well, depends more on the beater bar and bottom of the vacuum than tremendous amounts of suction, otherwise you're just sucking air, not dirt.
You are very correct. The brushroll is what matters the most on a carpet. I've had cheap Bissell powerforces outperforming dysons because the Bissells have better and faster spinning brushrolls. A lot of the reviews about various Bissell powerforce models claimed, they were outperforming much more expensive vacuums, such as shark and dyson. Its also important to regularly replace the belt and brushroll, so its always at peak performance.
@mrrogersneighborhood A few years ago Consumer Reports testing actually determined a $80 Vac did in fact perform better than a Dyson on carpet. Dyson has always rated very good on hard floors, but never has received the top rating overall and the carpet performance is typically middle of the road. Just goes to show that if you test new vacuums head to head the story can change. Now if you compare a brand new Dyson to a Hoover that is years old then obviously you expect a different result.
@Phormify Theat was years ago the dc25 kills what ever bagless! or sum cheapo one we bought a dc07 animal, dyson dc08 and dc04 they all clean dirt better than any other vacuum we had uhh
@redneckrollercoast1 so thats why i've had mine for 16 years then, still hasn't lost suction, survived a flood and lightning stike, i always drop it somehow by accident, mostly down the stairs and it still works like new. explain that...
No I don't think so the Fantom Thunder only has 90 air-watts and just a ordinary old height adjustment dial. The Dyson DC28 has 245 air-watts and a feature which adjusts the brush bar independently rather than adjusting the cleaner head with the brush bar. I once ran the test with the Fantom against a much older model which is the DC07 and the Fantom lost big time! If the Thunder can't beat the DC07 than it doesn't stand a chance against the DC28!
@Phormify no i didnt say dyson is cheaper for the US. dyson is the UK'S best seller it has root cyclone technonogywait till the consumer reporters or Which? try a dc01 then they will know... dc01 has 90 aw so what it picks up better than a cheap hoover for like £100 it proves you don need much suction clean dyson is the way to go! its Cheaper in the UK i mean...
I can see why clener companies suck the days. back then we used hoover 913 Kirby and royals that were made out of heavy ass. metal now these days Tha don't Even use them anymore
@Parwaz786 What source are you using for your comparison other than non-scientific and entirely biased personal experience? Because even the latest head to head testing from Consumer Reports still doesn't put Dyson at the top of the list. In fact nowhere near the top. You claim you have bought three different model Dysons so it stands to reason you might be a tad biased as you try to justify your purchases. So be it, but unbiased testing shows Dyson is far from the "best".
@Phormify yesh cus that technology is copied by copycats dyson invented it not them!" thats why and dyson is so old they are like newer than dyson so there you go! dc01 you dont know whats it like mine is 14 years old!
wow. You're hoover left huge big clumps of crud on the floor. It would have been easier to just sweep it up with a broom (broom, $9.99. Vacuum, $500). Besides, the 'one vacuum after another' test is a fake, used by vacuum salesmen for decades (my 80 y/o mom said they were doing that trick all the way back in the 1930's). ANY vacuum will pick up extra dirt on a second pass. Sounds like the Hoover just needs a new bag.
@Parwaz786 So you're suggesting Dyson makes a cheaper product for the US market? Any evidence to support this statement? You might be interested to know UK indepedent testing has also shown Dyson to not be the most powerful vacuum by the way. Also, what vacuum doesn't have round brushrolls? Is this another case of Dyson bragging about something that is industry standard? As far as lasting forever... do a google search on "refurbished dyson" and let me know how it goes.
The very first Dysons were the Kleeneze Rotork Cyclon 1000a by Zanussi and the G Force by Apex which came out in 1983 and 1986. The Dyson vacuums were not officially sold under the Dyson name until 1993.
Next time do it with a Kirby or royal metal upright. They are better because they're bagged, they're aluminum cast alloy, and they have have hepa filtration and deep clean better. Dysons are all flimsy plastic. Basically a pile of cheap junk. They have a bypass suction fan. Kirbys and Royals have a direct suction fan. A 60 year old Kirby could out clean a Dyson big time. Some of that is my opinion but most of that is true. I'm not against you or anything, just letting you know. I wouldn't recommend a dyson or any of the other cheap ones such as today's eurekas, today's Hoovers, today's bissells and of course Dysons. The only plastic vac I'm ok with is shark. Shark is ok
+Thedarkslender 818 I can't tell if you're a young Dyson fanboy, uneducated, or just plain stupid. Kirbys and Royals were, and still are some of the most powerful cleaners on the market, something you can't say about a Dyson.
I've still had even cheap Bissell powerforces ($50) outperforming dysons. The brushroll is what matters the most on a carpet since it agitates the stuck on debris off the carpet. The Bissells had better and faster spinning brushrolls. A lot of the reviews about various Bissell powerforce models, claimed they were outperforming much more expensive vacuums, such as shark and dyson which is definitely good for something that's only $50. Yearly replacement of the belt and brushroll also helps greatly with performance which a lot of people forget. I've gotten years out of cheap Bissells with good maintenance and haven't had one die yet. Especially great for anyone on a tight budget.
So you're comparing a brand new Dyson to a Hoover you probably had for years and that could very well have been clogged with years of dirt and hair? Doesn't seem like a fair comparison to me. If the Hoover was well maintained and performing well you wouldn't have replaced it with a $500 Dyson. I tell you what... run down to Walmart and buy a $80 vacuum and then come home and vacuum your carpets again - you will probably pull up even more dirt the Dyson missed. That is how things work.
@Parwaz786 The DC01 has been around since the 90s it still has never been shown to be better than much cheaper vacs. Also "root cyclone" technology is not new - Fantom vacuums used it over a decade ago, and Hoover, Eureka, and Bissell all have it in some models too. Just another example of James Dyson taking credit for something which is industry norm. The cyclone concept has been used by woodworkers for decades and was originally invented in 1901! Dyson marketing is better than their vacs.
It depends on what your needs and preferences are. The DC41 will outperform the DC28 on short pile, but the 28 will outperform the 41 on deep pile. No vacuum is fit for everyone. So time to debunk the illusion that there will ever be the best vacuum that is fit for everyone’s needs and preferences.
How they depends on how you take of them! If you treat a Dyson with respect and take proper care of it, it should last 10 years or longer! Even Royal can break down from lack of care! How vacuums break down is from lack of maintenance! Not manufacturing issues, not the design, from lack of maintenance! And you will do well to remember that!
