In this video I finally get rid of my failing lead acid batteries and upgrade to Lithium. I ordered everything from China through Ali-Express and the results are just what I was hoping for!
With a lightweight lithium battery you don`t realy need a trailer for the battery. Slide it into the rear gargo rack on the bike and your good to go. Then you can leave the trailer behind if you don`t need it.
This is what I did when I was able to get a battery shipped from China. Unfortunately I have a rear shock on my two wheeler and it broker the double-decker luggage rack that holds the battery. Now I am using a trike with a lithium battery in the basket. Check out my other videos.
Thanks alot for the real world reporting of PVC for bike trailer. I never had doubts, but wondered the weaker points such as axle or wheel mounts. Im designing a trailer using schedule 80 (thicker wall) of about an 1.3 inch outer diameter. It is possible to also use schedule 40 with its manufactured thinner wall to double up inside schedule 80. Schedule 80 also designed for the elements a bit better. !/2 inch schedule 40 fits nicely inside 1 inch schedule 80, leaving about 1/2 inch air core.
I had the plastic break where the axels go through the plastic. Upgraded to 2" PVC and put some big washers on the flattened plastic parts - no problems hauling 200 lbs on it now. I also had the trailer arm break where it connects to the trailer - going off jumps is not advised, lol. I just fiberglassed the heck out of it and now it is super strong. Schedule 80 sounds nice... not easily available on my little island.
Love the new build. Thanks for sharing it. Suggestion? Wax paper wont stick to foam (much) and if a temporary frame was built to put atop the battery it could be used to flatten the foam while its curing, making a more consistant surface, imo.
I had the top of the foam be inconsisteny on purpose - it provides ventilation channels. I gave the trailer to a homelss guy and got a rear luggage rack for the battery... much better now.
@@DIYKauai Aloha and thx for responding. Q: What is your lowest cost, best performance trike, now that you have been able to build 7 of them. You said 1000 watt is better for meridian instead of the 1500 fwd motor. I have been watching all your videos from the very first trailer build to e-trike transition. Can you recommend a supplier from AliExpress for the complete e-kit for 26 inch Swhinn meridian trike please? Thanks again!
@@bombdiggitydave3881 Try CSC for the motor and UnitPackPower for the batteries! The 1500W motor is almost too much power for the front forks to handle. 1000W is better. I like the LCD3 display and the half twist throttle.
@@DIYKauai CSC, I don't know of? Are they on Ally Express, if so what seller do you recommend? I have ne er done Alibaba or Ally Express before and would like to have a referred seller if I'm dealing with Chinese seller. At least I know they did well for you and won't rip me off? Any seller for Unit Pack Power? Btw, the 52 volt UPP with t he light built in looks great but I haven't been able to locate a seller? Thanks 👍
Is that trailer really necessary? Also if you’re gonna use a trailer, there are far bigger batteries you can have. There’s a 36v 420ah battery meant for golf carts It’s 110lb which wouldn’t weigh more than those lead acid batteries
I have ordered several hub motors from different vendors and they have all been good. China makes millions and millions of bikes. I order everything through aliexpress.com - the vendor does not get paid until you receive and approve the package. I ordered the batteries through Unit Pack Power, a vendor on Aliexpress.
Here is one vendor example: www.aliexpress.com/item/32886102991.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.8e56c0461RTyST&algo_pvid=3ce090b3-0d6e-4a99-bd6f-336737b27688&algo_expid=3ce090b3-0d6e-4a99-bd6f-336737b27688-5&btsid=8d340fee-7d41-4b90-b1a6-a431201ee302&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_3,searchweb201603_53
