Hi, Thank you for your videos. I am learning to sing. I can hit right pitch when single note is played. However, I am having trouble hearing when chords are played or multiple notes are played. Especially, in a song where multiple instruments are played. Like when I am singing over a backing track. I am not able to discern which pitch to stay on. Can you recommend any listening exercises? If you have any listening exercises, I am willing to pay for them. Because if this I am going off pitch. Any tips are welcome. Cheers

Day 6: Another wonderful session :) As a newcomer to professional singing I was wondering: what exactly are intervals? And why would they be useful to practice?
@VerbaVocal
@VerbaVocal 7 лет назад
Intervals are the steps in music (the difference in pitch). A big interval would be a big jump from one note to another like a low note to a very high note. They are important because as we sing songs our voice has to jump different intervals all the time and some steps are easier than others. :)

Hi Anna! Thank you for all these videos! I can't afford vocal lessons so they're really helpfull! I just wanted to ask you if you could do some exercises to build the low range of the voice. I'm a soprano and I find it extremely difficult when it comes to go low. I practice with your videos and after I'm super good when it comes to go high but then I kind of loose my low range ... Do you have already updated some videos for this kind of problem and can you maybe tell me which ones should i watch or again if you don't could you maybe do one? T^T Thank you and sorry for being demanding I'd really like to improve on all the aspects of my voice! Nice work so far and thank you thank you thank you ♡

+Ely Lee Hi Ely. Thanks for your message. It's hard to add notes to the bottom of your range, it's not really how the voice works. Just make sure when you're practicing you don't spend all your time up high. Mix your practice up, jump around a bit.

Hey Anna and team thank you so much for your videos, I couldn't stop being distracted by your wonderful voice and how elegant you look. With that being said and the compliment given i have a doubt, Do excuse if this is late, i have problems improvising, in the sense i play guitar and when it comes to play what i want i always land up playing some licks or go back to SAFE box positions or in piano some type of pattern. What i also noticed here is you were trying to sing the INTERVALS(duh ;p) and make it your own, so it was YOUR VOICE. So is this helpful in Improvising? i understand this is a Vocal Training but can it assist in playing the melodies in your head (I know by mentioning 'In the Head' it sounds rather philosophical but its a term i wish to use to describe my point). Thank you and your content.

Hi, what can i do to mantain a more steady pitch? If, for example i try to keep an "ah" for few seconds (even on a comfortable note) it gets wobbly and i even have some breaks from time to time. btw, love your lessons :)
@VerbaVocal
@VerbaVocal 7 лет назад
+ChiP Hi, it's hard to give an accurate answer without hearing you. It sounds a bit like you need more 'support' for your voice, which basically means more controlled airflow. However it's hard to know whether you need more or less air! We do offer one-to-one feedback via our Patreon page (Patreon.com/Verba) if you are looking for more precise feedback!

a lot of the octaves u play are too high for me so i really can't hit most of the notes, should i keep doing it to try build the range or am i supposed to be practicing in my own range?
@onedirectionlover317
@onedirectionlover317 4 года назад
Definitely practice in your own range! Maybe see if you can get a friend to play random keys on a piano (even a digital piano, and they don't even have to know the notes themselves as long as they know to play within your proper range and can play the same note again so you can check yourself). The rule of thumb is that (once you're warmed up), you should gradually inch exercises up and down within your range and only practice to one or two semitones above your comfortable range and don't stay there too long! With time and practice your range will probably improve!
@Ratelzwatel
@Ratelzwatel 5 лет назад
Question. Do you have an example of a 9th interval in vocals? I can't find it anywhere. I think I've a vocal melody in mind which seems to jump from the note A (1st) to B (9th), but I don't know if that's absurd and/or me being tone deaf. I've read that "according to the Essential Dictionary of Orchestration, leaps of more than an octave should generally be avoided when writing for voices." This doesn't seem to be a strict rule to forbid larger leaps, but all tutorials I've seen stop at an octave. Can you give some information about those larger leaps? How practical or impractical they are for vocals? Source of quote: musicib.wordpress.com/intervals-vocal-ranges/

Hi Anna, when I belt too high or after a long vocal warmup, I tend to lose my head voice which I can register effortlessly before. Also my voice gets airy. Is it something related to the transition between the two registers?
@VerbaVocal
@VerbaVocal 6 лет назад
I know exactly that feeling, I have it too sometimes. It’s because belting, and high belting requires such effort that you wear out your muscles. Imagine trying to do something very delicate which required a steady hand after you had a monster weights session. Does that even make sense....? My point is the voice is a muscle, and it gets tired like all muscles, if you run a marathon you will have shaky legs for the rest of the day.

Just rest until your voice feels and sounds normal again. Nodules come from long term misuse of the voice generally so don't panic.

Wow, that's some tricky stuff. For my knowledge, why are vocal intervals important, and how do they help develop the singing voice? Thanks!
@VerbaVocal
@VerbaVocal 7 лет назад
+Sylvan De La Cruz Yeah it's tricky! Intervals are important in training your ear as well as your voice. There's no point having a great technical voice if you can sing in tune. So training your ear to pitch accurately within chords can really help.
@sylvandelacruz
@sylvandelacruz 7 лет назад
That's PERFECT, because I absolutely want to train my ear to recognize notes and chords as a singer, and especially as a pianist, because I've been playing piano for a year and a half, and learning that is a must! Thank you!!!
