Anna, you are such a gentle, lovely lady with a beautiful vocal talent! I really love the personal touch you give to your videos in having direct eye contact, not only with us, the viewers, but with those who are also helping you put these AWESOME videos together. There seems to be a real peace and friendship between you and those with whom you work. And Mark is so completely talented at the keyboard! He also has such a gentility about him...it's especially evident when he smiles. You two are just very endearing people and I find that these wonderful qualities of the both of you make improving one's vocal ability ALL the more enjoyable! You are an awesome instructor, Anna! Thank you so much for taking the time to give of yourselves in these wonderful videos. I dearly appreciate them...God bless you both. :)

thank you, thank you! This 7-day course is extremely helpful. It's inspiring me to spend more time practicing my singing. I'm first and foremost an instrumentalist, so singing doesn't always get the priority It needs in my musical life. This seven day play will help me tremendously. One suggestion: while working on the technique of the day, it's a good idea to include at least one exercise from each of the six areas, time permitting. This is what I at least endeavor to do on my trumpet. I do a lot of my vocal exercises in the car, which doesn't bother the neighbors (though in warm weather with the windows down you'll get some weird looks from other drivers). Jazz oriented musicians will want to use different modes and scales (harmonic minor, diminished, whole tone, etc.) for these exercises, which will really sharpen your intonation and accuracy. I didn't see a way to make a donation here. I can't just make use of this program without paying someting for it. Mucho thanks.

Managed this one a number of times now (show off? !!). It gives me a feeling of a good "wake up" but at the same time a lovely progressive build up. I am all for vocal accuracy and always try to apply it whilst singing. That's what it's all about after all isn't it. If you are getting tired of "hearing" from me, just give me a NUDGE! G3ven. I don't know why you found it weird. All Anna's (and Mark's) lessons are wonderful and vitally important for improving anyone's singing, that is (in my opinion) anyone who is serious about becoming a better singer. There is nothing that I find weird and practice makes perfect!

Verba Vocal Technique I love your videos, especially the west end warm up. I am a choral singer (pop in the car 😉) looking to move into musical theatre. I hope you don’t mind if I make a suggestion, as I too found it hard to learn the melody even in the first run through? Maybe breaking it down into sections? Learning a bar at a time? Also for those of us who read music, including the sheet music as an attached pdf? I’ve been singing for years and would have found that helpful to learn the melody. As well if you could tell us any tricks you have to learning music that help you? Thanks again for all the effort you put into these lessons and sharing them with us!

For the weekly singing exercise program, do you recommend going over the videos just once on a daily basis Or is it best to go over the video a couple times? Basically, how would you recommend structuring practice? And lastly, are all the exercises in these weekly singing program videos to be done in the chest voice unless otherwise specified? I lie within the alto range, and much of these exercises are so high, i inevitably end up in my head voice. Thanks so much!

Hello Anna. Just completed this lesson again. No problems but I was reading something yesterday and so I just want to get some guidance. So nothing to do with this video, but the video I watched was with Carrie Underwood and Julie Andrews (they weren't together). They were both singing the Do Re Mi's and a small section of another S of M song, and Carrie hit the same notes (exactly) each time as Julie did in the film. However it was said that Carrie's voice is a chest voice and of course we all know Julie's is (or at least was) a head voice. So how do you tell if you really are chest or head, when you can still reach pretty high notes? Is it to do with the breathing? Because Carrie's voice was not in the least a belting type of sound, although I did detect a slighter deepness to Julie's even hitting the high notes. Anna, it's confused me a bit. Can you guide me on this conundrum please? Many many thanks.
@VerbaVocal
@VerbaVocal 6 лет назад
Interesting. Its very hard to comment without having heard the video itself. They both have very different voices, so will likely approach the song in very different ways. And who is to say which is the right one!
@dianeshepherdlyricsoprano1394
@dianeshepherdlyricsoprano1394 6 лет назад
Thank you very much for your reply Anna. I think it makes sense what you have said about the different approaches. I suppose we all sing a song how WE feel it so I agree with your last sentence. Still confused though about knowing whether one has a THROAT or HEAD VOICE. My interpretation of that (I'm probably wrong!) is that maybe a throat voice just feels and sounds heavier, hence the sound of Carrie's voice.

hi Anna I have a question. I recorded myself and I figured out that when I wanna reach the high notes and sing on the right pitch, my voice goes up like a straight inclined line and reaching it...it's like so emotionless and too technical without any beauty of feelings in it do you have any suggestions how to fix that? (I do have a problem of "not delivering the emotions" with my singing as others have pointed out)

+G3ven Hi. Thanks for your question. This is really tricky to answer without actually hearing you sing! We do occasionally do feedback sessions via RU-vid, so it's definitely worth keeping an eye out for those. Alternatively we do offer feedback via our Patreon page; Patreon.com/verba Sorry not to be able to offer anything more immediate!
